1(a) Listening , Speaking and Reading


1(b) Writing skills and collaborative skills
2 Remembering refers to retaining and storing information in our memory. Responding involves
reacting or replying to the message that is received.
3(a) – Reading for structure
- Reading for vocabulary
3(b) On page 104, reading for structure can help in developing writing skills by reading a variety
of example which will familiarize you with the working of a clear and effective structure that
can be use in your own work. Reading many examples pose and poems would introduce to a
range of tools that can be use in creative writing.
- Reading for vocabulary by paying attention to context in which the words are used and the
way they fit into a sentence which allows you to see how to use the correctly. Pay attention to
the kind of language used in different texts which will help to develop knowledge of register
use.
4. Pre-reading – It prepares you for what you are about to read.
While-reading- Interact and engage with text to construct and develop understanding.
Post- reading- Allows you to process the information obtained from the text and establish
your understanding of the text.
5(a) – Interpretation
- Reflection
- Evaluation
- Response
5(b) Interpretation- The reader interprets the purpose of the text by questioning and tying to
find the meaning and significance of the text.
- Reflection- The reader reflects on what, the text is about in order to gain insight and explore
their own words about the text and express their opinions.
- Evaluation- Evaluate the text by weigh in the details and making judgements about the text
strengths and weakness.
- Response- Respond to the text through writing a brief summary of the text and offer a
personal response such as question and opinions

Part Two

1” Sweep incidents under the carpet” mean, there was nothing done after reporting the
incident and no action was taken to discipline the group of girls that were bullies.

3(a) “ Alleged” – The author used the word “alleged” because, the incident has not yet been
confirmed whether the alleged perpetrators have bullied the girl or not.
3(b) Intensive Reading
- This particular reading strategy was used because, intensive reading provides in-depth
understanding and allows the reader to engage with and reflect with text. Intensive reading
helps you to understand how the text is structured and how its different component is
connected.
4. The main reason would be, that many learners are being bullied in the school and the school
have detailed records of how each incident was handled including statements from various of
witness and no action have been done to deal with bullying in the school.
5. Evaluating listening stage
- The listener weights the evidence that is presented, sort facts from opinions and determine
the presence or absence of bias or prejudice in a message.
6. The father wished to communicate with, the Western Cape Education Department to take
implications and come up with different ways to resolve this bullying matter in school.
7(a) Millicent Merton used formal language, because formal language is used in situations that
are serious and involves people we respect the most.
7(b) Responding listening stage
8 A Cape Town father, who had a daughter who was being by bullies at school more than a
dozen time. The latest incident, his daughters was stabbed with a pencil in the eye. The father
reported the matter but nothing was done to discipline the bullies and he wanted the principal,
class teacher and the bullies dismissed also face the consequences.
