MS Powerpoint
MS PowerPoint is a program that is included in the Microsoft Office suite.
It is used to make presentations for personal and professional purposes.
The program was created in a software company named Forethought, Inc. by Robert Gaskins and Dennis
Austin.
It was released on April 20, 1987, and after 3 months of its creation, it was acquired by Microsoft.
It is a presentation-based program that uses graphics, videos, etc. to make a presentation more interactive
and interesting.
The file extension of a saved Powerpoint presentation is “.ppt”.

The important components
Menu Bar : Provides menu options to help in designing and viewing the presentation.
Standard Toolbar : Contains tools for standard tasks, like saving, printing, cutting, copying, pasting, etc.
Formatting Toolbar : Provides tools for formatting like bold, italic, underline, etc.
The important components
Task Pane : Allows options depending on the selected task. This shows the options for the task New
Presentation. We can select other tasks too.
Slide Pane : This is the place where we design the slide by typing, formatting, etc.

Slide Sorter Pane : Allows us to decide on the order in which the slides will be shown during the slide
show.
View Buttons : Provides options to decide whether we want to view slide show, normal slide view, or slide
sorter view.
Drawing ToolBar : Provides tools for drawing basic shapes, inserting pictures, changing colours, etc.
Status Bar : This provides information about the current presentation, like the number of slides, the design
applied, etc.

Some other important shortcut keys
F5: Start a presentation from the beginning
Shift+F5: Start a presentation from the current slide
Alt+F5: Start the presentation in Presenter View
Enter, Page Down, Right arrow key, Down arrow key, Spacebar, N: Perform the next animation or advance
to the next slide
P, Page Up, Left arrow key, Up arrow key, Backspace: Perform the previous animation or return to the
previous slide
Ctrl+H: Hide the pointer and navigation buttons
B, Period (.): Display a blank black slide, or return to the presentation from a blank black slide.
W, Comma (,): Display a blank white slide, or return to the presentation from a blank white slide.
S: Stop or restart an automatic presentation.
Esc, Hyphen (-): End the presentation.
Shift+F5 - Start a presentation from the current slide.
Esc - End the Presentation.
P page up Left arrow key up arrow key backspace.
Ctrl+P - Changes the mouse pointer from an arrow to a pen.
Ctrl+N - Create a new presentation document.

Ctrl+O - Open an existing presentation document.
Ctrl+S - Save a presentation.
Ctrl+Q - Save and close a presentation.
Ctrl+F2 - Print Preview View.
.ppt : A file with PPT extension represents PowerPoint file that consists of a collection of slides for
displaying as SlideShow.
.pptx : pptx file extension is a Microsoft PowerPoint Open XML (PPTX) file created by Microsoft
PowerPoint.
.pptm : Files with PPTM extension are Macro-enabled Presentation files that are created with Microsoft
PowerPoint 2007 or higher versions.
