Client Presents Issues

Ask questions and take good notes. Set up good direction for the
session. Take control.

Pre-Induction Speech
Dispel myths and address fears, set up expectations, explain what
hypnosis is (and isn’t) and build message units. Begin to connect how
hypnosis can help with the client’s issue.

Suggestibility Testing
Finger spread, heavy/light, handwriting analysis.

Theory of Mind
Tie the client’s goal/issue into the TOM. Begin to set the foundation for
the therapy by giving client known reasons why hypnosis will work for
their specific issue in the cognitive portion of the session. (Very
Important)

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 3 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

Questionnaire
Build message units and ask all questions on both sides of
questionnaire.

Arm Raising Induction

This is the primary induction and a must on first sessions. 5-4-3-2-1-0,
deep sleep then Post Hypnotic suggestion to re-hypnosis. Use
deepeners while client is still in the chair next to the desk or move to
recliner.

Progressive Relaxation
Once client is in the recliner, use progressive (also deepeners –
staircase, etc.).

Suggestions
Use suggestions pertaining to client’s goals/issue. Can include
suggestions for venting dreams.

Post Hypnotic Suggestion to Re-Hypnosis

Bring client out of hypnosis and use Script #5 to quickly re-hypnotize
them, reinforcing the Post Hypnotic Suggestion (PHS) again: “Each and
every time I suggest the words Deep Sleep to you for the purpose of
hypnosis and with your permission, you will enter this state of hypnosis
very quickly, calmly and deeply and the physical body will relax.”

Count out of hypnosis 0-1-2-3-4-5 eyes open, wide awake.

Rebook Client for the Next Session!

2. Pre-Induction Speech
Dispel Myths – Address Fears – Set Expectations

Hypnosis is a natural state. We all go in and out of hypnosis

throughout our day (triggered by environment, social interactions,
anxiety, bliss, movies, falling in love, etc.).
It’s a state of narrow focus that bypasses the critical mind so we
can change negatives to positives.
Deep Sleep is a trigger for a hypnotic state (not actual sleep). It’s a

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 4 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

deeply relaxed state with eyes closed. Won’t go unconscious or

lose control. Always aware (possibly hyper-aware). Hear sounds
around you and could never get stuck in hypnosis.
Would not do or say anything you wouldn’t do or say in your wide-
awake state. Not a truth serum.
You may wonder if you are in hypnosis during the process and
that’s when you know you are!
The reason you are here today is _____. One of the benefits of
hypnosis is that we can access and work with your subconscious
mind to facilitate the change you desire.
“You’ll see. It will be so much easier to change.”
It’s a suggestible state where you are receptive to suggestions
about your conscious goals. It feels familiar because it IS. It is a
natural state.
You’ll hear everything that is going on. Your mind may wander. That
is normal. Your subconscious will know when to return to my voice.
Some say they feel light and tingly, some feel heavy, some just feel
relaxed and calm. Whatever you experience is right for you.
This is a “do with” process. Not a “do to” process. A cooperative
process that requires your active participation and imagination.
Today we start the process of positive change. Building new
associations to help you achieve your goal/goals.
I do some testing in the first session so I can discover how you
take info in (right brain/ left brain and so on). These tests you
cannot pass or fail so don’t help or hinder me. The tests give me
the information I need to work specifically with your learning style.
Present yourself as an authority and give them hope. Let them
know they ARE suggestible, that it will work for them.
Ask them if they have any questions – if not say, “Good, because
some people think…” and add anything else you wish to tell them.
After the first session, people say how much better and more
relaxed they feel, and they can see how the process of changing
habits has already begun.

3. The Theory of Mind Script

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 5 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

“Let me go ahead and draw you a picture to explain what hypnosis is

and how your conscious and subconscious mind works.”

(Draw a circle and fill in the areas of the mind starting from the bottom.)

“This circle is going to represent what we call the Theory of Mind.”

P – “We all have an area down here that is called the Primitive Area of
the mind which is your basic instinct for survival. In it we have 2
choices, we have what we call a fight/flight response.”

F/F – “The Fight response is how you handle the stress and overload of
everyday living. The Flight response is what takes place when you feel
like you need to withdraw, escape, or just take time out from the
stress.”

0-8 – “Now, from the time we are born until about 8 years old we are
very suggestible. We take in everything as absolute truth and then we
start to develop our programming.

+/- – Sometimes we take in positive information and experiences and

sometimes we take in negative information and experiences. These
make up our known associations and it is what we believe to be true.”

“For example – we like chocolate cake, but we don’t like spinach – we

like hugs and kisses but we don’t like to be kicked or spanked.”

S/88% – “These associations make up what we call the Subconscious

Mind, which is about 88% of your total mind power.”

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 6 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

CM – “As we get older, we now form an area called the Critical Mind,
which acts like a filter and a protection for the known associations.”

C/12% – “We then develop our logic, reasoning, decision-making,

analyzing and will power – the one that doesn’t work when you want it
to! This makes up your Conscious Mind, which is only 12% of your
mind power.”

(Explain how the mind works.) “So let me explain how your mind works.
When you decide to change something in your life, here’s what
happens…

“That thought (I want to stop smoking, lose weight etc.) goes from the
conscious mind all the way down to the critical area of the mind where
it gets filtered, and then it checks your subconscious programming. If
your subconscious mind is resistant to making the change, the critical
mind will then block your thought and you will continue to have the
same behavior patterns.”

“What hypnosis does, is it takes that same thought (I want to stop

smoking, lose weight etc.) and bypasses the critical mind. It opens a
door to have direct access to the subconscious. What we do then is
use positive hypnotic suggestions to make the changes you want in
your life.”

“I am going to work with the 88%… You are going to work with the
12%… So together we will have a 100% effective rate! And how we do
this is by testing your suggestibility…”

4. Finger-Spreading Test for Suggestibility

(For Use in the 101-1 Practicum)

(The finger-spreading test is used on the client in the first session to

determine emotional or physical suggestibility. Do not let your client ask
questions during the test. If they do start talking, tell them it is a silent
test and it is important for them to just observe the process and see
what happens. It does not matter which arm you start with; however, it
will be important to watch the speed of the finger-spreading and how
wide the fingers move apart. From this test you will have one data point
indicating your client’s predominant suggestibility.)

“Okay, I’d like you to sit with your feet flat on the floor and place your
hands on your legs.

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 7 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

Now I am going to test your suggestibility to see how you take

information in, how you learn. This is one test you cannot pass or fail so
please don’t help me in any way.

Raise your arm and bend it at the elbow and place the palm of your
hand in front of your face about 10 inches away, with your fingers
straight up and above eye level.

I want you to stare at your middle finger and take a deep breath and on
the exhale your fingers will begin to separate.

Separating, separating, wider and wider, farther and farther apart.

Separating, separating, wider and wider, farther and farther apart.

Separating, separating, wider and wider, farther and farther apart.

(Can repeat anywhere from 3-8 times.)

(If you want, snap on the first word of each phrase for an auditory
cue, although as the video shows it is also effective to use only
your words. This tests their Physical Suggestibility. Do they take
the direct suggestion and spread their fingers?)

Great job. Now put your arm down and raise the other arm and bend it
at the elbow and place the palm of your hand in front of your face about
10 inches away, with your fingers straight up and above eye level.

I want you to stare at your middle finger and take a deep breath and on
the exhale…

(As you repeat in your head the above phrases, you can snap on
the first word of each phrase for an auditory cue or simply remain
silent – just make sure the number of repetitions or amount of time
silent is the same as the first time. This tests their Emotional
Suggestibility. Do they take the inferred suggestion and spread
their fingers?)

Great job, now you can put your arm down.”

5. Post Hypnotic Suggestion to Re-Hypnosis

(This induction is done at the end of the first session, right after you
have counted your client out of hypnosis the first time from 0-5. The
purpose of it is to test how easily you can put your client right back into

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 8 of 30

hypnosis and for the client to see how easily they can go back into
hypnosis, as well as to reinforce the Post Hypnotic Suggestion.)

“Raise your arm and bend it at the elbow and place the palm of your
hand in front of your face about 10 inches away, with your fingers
straight up and above eye level.

I want you to stare at your middle finger and take a deep breath and on
the exhale, your fingers will begin to separate.

Now as your fingers may continue separating… I want you to tell me if

you think it is your hand that is coming towards your head or is your
head dropping down to meet your hand? It’s almost as though there is
a magnetic pull drawing your hand and your head together. As you
continue to breathe deeply and your eyes tend to blur and your eyelids
become heavier and heavier, your hand and head draw closer and
closer together, following that magnetic pull. And when your hand
touches your forehead and you give me a nod, your eyes will close, and
you will reach the peak of your suggestibility and enter the hypnotic
sleep.” (Keep repeating the above phrases until their hand touches
their forehead and when it does, say the following.) “Deep Sleep –
each and every time I suggest the words Deep Sleep to you for the
purpose of hypnosis and with your permission, you will enter this state
of hypnosis very quickly, calmly, and deeply and the physical body will
relax.”

(At this point you can give a few quick suggestions such as the
following.) “You will remember to remember your dreams and you will
vent out what no longer serves you in your early morning venting
dreams.”

(Count them up and out from 0-5.)

6. Emotional/Inferred Arm Raising Induction

(For Use in the 101-2 Practicum)

1. Physical Set up of Client’s Zoom Square

Have client sit upright in their chair with their feet on the floor and arm
on the table.

Make sure their glasses are off and they have no gum in their mouth.

Have them look directly at you, as you ask them questions to test
suggestibility.

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 9 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

2. Explain that you are going to “Test

Suggestibility”
“I am going to ask you a few questions to test your suggestibility to see
if you are more left brain or right brain dominant in how you respond to
suggestions. This is one test that you cannot pass or fail so don’t help
me in any way. Everything tells me a story.”

“You don’t need to talk during this test… If the answer is YES, just nod
your head “yes” …if it is NO then shake your head “no” …if you don’t
know the answer just stare at me… I will find the answers in your
eyes… okay?”

3. Ask these Few “Suggestibility Questions”

In first sessions you will always ask all 36 questions, but for practice,
just these few, making note especially of the last 2.

“Have you ever walked or talked in your sleep?”

“Have you ever woken up at night and felt you couldn’t move your body
or talk?”

“After having an argument with someone, do you ever think of what you
could have or should have said?”

“If you were to think about biting into a sour lemon would your mouth
begin to water?”

“Can you visualize – can you picture things in your mind?” (If they say
no, then ask next one.)

“Can you imagine – can you remember what images look like?”

“Now take a look at your arm, from the elbow down to your fingertips,
get a good picture of it and close your eyes. Visualize or Imagine your
arm and hand in your mind. When you can remember what they look
like nod your head yes and let me know.” (Wait for response.)

4. Physiological Changes in Body

“Now as you begin to enter the hypnotic state you will notice a series of
changes taking place in your body. “I” will notice them before you do
and when “YOU” become aware of them just nod your head “yes” and
let me know okay?”

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 10 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

“The first change that takes place is that your breathing may have a
tendency to grow deeper as your body takes in more oxygen. When
you begin to notice your breathing getting deeper and deeper just nod
your head “yes” and let me know.” (Wait for response.)

“Your lips, throat and mouth will begin to feel dry, and you may have an
urge to swallow. When you notice this – nod your head “yes” and let me
know. This is very natural and normal.” (Wait for response.)

“Now focus on your eyes and your eyelids. Do you notice that little
fluttering sensation of your eyes moving underneath your eyelids? We
are now entering the first stage of hypnosis.”

5. Conversion into Hypnosis

Pay attention to how fast or slow the arm is moving (Note which arm,
right or left, is on the table and use the words appropriately).

Because those with a higher emotional suggestibility like to feel in

control, use these words and phrases: “allowing the calming,” “because
you choose to allow it,” “as you begin to feel more comfortable,”
“tendency,” “giving yourself permission,” “this is a feeling that gives you
a greater sense of control,” “peaceful,” “safe.”

“Now bring your attention down to your elbow… you feel your left
elbow pressing comfortably into the table. And move down through the
forearm. And from the tips of the fingers in the left hand, into the wrist,
into the forearm, imagine your hand becoming lighter and lighter. Very,
very light… as light as a feather. And then even lighter than that. And as
you begin to imagine that you’ll find there will become a few little pulling
or jerking motions. As you begin to create that sensation… left hand,
lighter and lighter.

* Misdirection to Help with the Overload of

Message Units
At the same time, you’ll notice your right hand feels heavier than your
left hand as it lies against your leg. And you feel your feet pressing into
the ground. And every breath you breathe, there’s this sense that the
left hand can feel lighter and lighter. That you’re allowing yourself to
connect that thought and the feeling. Becoming very, very light now.
Lighter and lighter… light as a feather and then even lighter… lighter
than air. And it becomes a floating feeling.

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 11 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

* Misdirection to Help with the Overload of

Message Units
And you can feel your feet against the floor, your back against the chair
or the rhythm of your breath. And when you can feel your right hand
feeling a little heavier than your left hand, nod your head. Because
you’re making the left hand feel lighter, you’re creating that. So, focus
on that feeling. The left hand becoming very, very light. Lighter and
lighter. Light as a feather and then even lighter than that. So, you feel
that sensation. The left hand light, the right hand heavier. And allow
yourself to create that sensation, and when you begin to feel that
difference in the weight, nod your head. That right hand is going to feel
heavier as the left hand feels lighter, especially around the wrist.

* Inference to Help with Inferential Learners

And that left hand… imagine we’ve tied many powerful helium balloons
around that left wrist. As it grows lighter and lighter… a floating
sensation. The right hand feeling heavy pressing down. The left hand
very light. And feel your feet against the floor. And every time you inhale
a breath, you feel that tendency of that left hand to want to float. Very,
very light now. Light as a feather, and then even lighter than that. So
those pulling and jerking motions, those little contractions are growing a
little stronger. Feel the right hand becoming heavier. Create that
sensation. And create the sensation of your left hand becoming lighter.

(Repeat the inferential phrasing, misdirection, and inferential

imagery until you see the hand begin to move up off the surface –
now you can begin being more directive and use the words lifting
and rising, twisting and turning.)

Now you’re beginning to feel it. And so that light sensation… lifting…
now beginning. As you feel your hand, your wrist, even into the
forearm… and it becomes a rising sensation. It’s already begun. With
every breath that hand wants to rise or lift up off the table even more.
Your right hand is heavier. The left hand is rising now. And pivoting at
the elbow, coming upwards. And so you feel your feet… you sense the
weight of your head on your shoulders, your back against the chair,
your left hand rising now. Very light… and that becomes a twisting and
turning as the palm and the fingertips began to turn inward. And so it’s
a lifting, rising, twisting, turning upwards and inwards, and even the
head might feel as if it’s coming downward. And I wonder if you ask
yourself if it was more of a feeling of the hand being drawn to the head
or the head to the hand, I wonder which one you would choose. But I’ll

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 12 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

let you decide. And at a certain moment, you’ll notice the left bicep
muscle tightening. And so we have a lifting, rising, and twisting, turning,
lighter and lighter feeling… upwards and inwards the head coming
down or the hand coming up, or both. Feeling your feet against the
floor. A twisting, turning, upwards and inwards, closer and closer, as if
the hand were being drawn to the face or the face to the hand, or both
being drawn together.

(Repeat the inferential phrasing, misdirection, and inferential

imagery until the hand is about six inches from the face.)

“Now when your hand comes all the way up to touch your face… the
moment you make skin contact, you will nod your head, and you will
reach your peak of suggestibility and enter the hypnotic sleep.”

(When hand touches the face, and they nod their head – SNAP
FINGERS and say “DEEP SLEEP”.)

6. Post-Hypnotic Suggestion for “DEEP SLEEP”

“Each and every time I suggest the words Deep Sleep to you, for the
purpose of hypnosis and with your permission, you will enter this state
of hypnosis very quickly, calmly and deeply and the physical body will
relax.”

7. Count from 5 Down to 0 Deepening Technique

“Now you can gently relax your hand and let it come back down on to
the table.”

“I will now use a count from 5 down to 0. With each and every count,
the mind and body will allow you to enter the hypnotic state deeper and
deeper. Starting with the count of…

5… We are beginning to go down now… deeper and deeper into

the state of hypnosis…
4… Physically releasing, relaxing, and letting go…
3… Is an emotional calmness…
2… You are mentally relaxing now…
1… Going deeper and deeper.

“And 0 is DEEP SLEEP” (snap fingers).

Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

(Repeat Post-Hypnotic Suggestion) “Each and every time I suggest

the words Deep Sleep to you, for the purpose of hypnosis and with your
permission, you will enter this state of hypnosis very quickly, calmly,
and deeply and the physical body will relax…”

8. Give Positive Suggestions for Therapy

(Example)
“Take five slow, deep breaths and as you breathe in you can feel
yourself relax, breathing in confidence, energy, and relaxation and as
you breath out, feel yourself let go, breathing out any tension or fear.
These deep breaths provide you with the inner strength and calmness
you desire to concentrate or remember. Any time you sit down to study,
listen to a lecture, or speak with someone, you can use this tool to
understand that you have the ability to comprehend, concentrate, and
confidently remember all that you are learning.”

9. Count Out of Hypnosis

“It is now time to come back up out of the state of hypnosis feeling very
calm and relaxed. I will reverse the count from (0 to 5) and with each
count you begin to feel more alert and awake with a positive sense of
well-being.”

0… Let’s shut that door to the subconscious mind to block all

negatives…
1… Slowly and calmly coming up out of the state of hypnosis
now…
2… Physically aware and mentally alert…
3… Coming up even higher now…
4… Eyes beginning to open and…
5… EYES OPEN and WIDE AWAKE…
1-2-3-4-5 EYES OPEN and WIDE AWAKE.

7. Physical/Literal Arm Raising Induction

(For Use in the 101-3 Practicum)

“We now will tie this into your breathing. With every breath you take in,
your arm and hand will lift and rise, going up higher and higher, lighter
and lighter, pulling up towards your face, in little incremental motions,
moving up, up, and up.”

(Continue to say power words for the arm and hand to move up.
For example, “lifting, rising, higher, lighter, pulling, jerking, moving
up, with every breath now.”)

(When the hand is about halfway to the face, begin to have them
twist and turn the arm.)

“Now at this time you may begin to notice that your hand starts to twist
and turn inward at the wrist. It’s almost as if there is a magnetic pull of
your hand coming towards your face… and your head dropping down

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 16 of 30

to meet your hand. It’s now a twisting and turning, lifting and rising,
pulling and jerking sensation that goes up… higher and higher, lighter
and lighter, just as light as a feather…

With every inhale, arm and hand go up… and on the exhale the head
begins to drop down now to meet the hand… getting heavier and
heavier, heavier and heavier with every breath… the hand and head
continue pulling in closer and closer together.”

(Repeat the power words until the hand is six inches from the face.)

With each and every count,
the mind and body will allow you to enter the hypnotic state deeper and
deeper.”

“Starting with the count of…”

5… We are beginning to go down now… deeper and deeper into

the state of hypnosis…
4… Physically releasing, relaxing, and letting go…
3… Is an emotional calmness…
2… You are mentally relaxing now…
1… Going deeper and deeper…
“And 0 is DEEP SLEEP” (snap fingers).

(Repeat Post-Hypnotic Suggestion) “Each and every time I suggest

the words Deep Sleep to you, for the purpose of hypnosis and with your
permission, you will enter this state of hypnosis very quickly, calmly,
and deeply and the physical body will relax…”

8. Use the Progressive Relaxation Deepening

Technique
“Now as you relax in your chair, you feel the rhythm of your breath. You
feel connected inside. You’re giving yourself permission to allow me to
guide you.

Now bring your attention to the top of your head, allowing a sense of
relaxation to wash down over your scalp, forehead, temples, eyelids,
and cheeks, relaxing your jaw. As this sense of calm and peace
continues to release and relax the neck muscles all the way through
your shoulders, softening them along the way.

Pay no attention to any outside sounds, except my voice, for these

outside sounds are everyday sounds of life and cannot distract or
disturb you but will tend to relax you and allow you to go even deeper
into this deep, heavy relaxation.

Now allow this sense of relaxation to continue down your upper arms,
elbows, forearms, as it relaxes and releases any tension from your
wrists, hands, and all the way to the tips of your fingers.

As that sense of relaxation now continues bringing calm and peace to

your chest area helping to open it up and let go of anything that no
longer serves you. Now it continues down through your solar plexus
and your belly area, bringing an unwinding and letting go.

Your breathing becomes very deep, gentle, and rhythmic, and the
drowsy, sleepy, daydreaming feeling of relaxation takes over…letting
go…drifting down, deeper, and deeper.

Allow that calming sense of relaxation to continue through your hips

and pelvis releasing any tension. And as this wonderful feeling of calm
continues to travel down your thighs helping relax those big muscles all
the way to the smallest of muscles, you allow the relaxation to deeply
calm your knees, shins, and calves.

And as this sense of peace deeply relaxes your ankles, heels, arches,
and loosens up every single one of your toes to the very tips perhaps
bringing a tingling sensation.

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 18 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

And as I count down from five to zero, each count will represent deep
relaxation, and you will feel the body relaxing even more and letting
go…deeper and deeper…and when I reach zero, you will go deep
asleep. Now, five…letting go…four…three…two…one…zero… (snap
fingers) Deep Sleep.”

(Repeat Post-Hypnotic Suggestion) – “Each and every time I suggest

the words Deep Sleep to you, for the purpose of hypnosis and with your
permission, you will enter this state of hypnosis very quickly, calmly,
and deeply and the physical body will relax…”

10. Count Out of Hypnosis

“It is now time to come back up out of the state of hypnosis feeling very
calm and relaxed. I will reverse the count from (0 to 5) and with each
count you begin to feel more alert and awake with a positive sense of
well-being.”

0… Let’s shut that door to the subconscious mind to block all

negatives.
1… Slowly and calmly coming up out of the state of hypnosis
now…
2… Physically aware and mentally alert…
3… Coming up even higher now…
4… Eyes beginning to open and…
5… EYES OPEN and WIDE AWAKE…
1-2-3-4-5 EYES OPEN and WIDE AWAKE…

8. Auto Dual Induction

(Make sure your client has their glasses off and no gum in their mouth.
As you begin the count down, you’ll want to increase your speed,
necessarily speaking over them a bit so as to increase the message unit
overload.)

“Sit straight up in your chair and put your feet flat on the floor.

Hold your left arm out and place your right index finger on your left wrist
and feel for your pulse.

When you have it, nod your head …. Are you sure?

Now stare directly at the fingernail of your right index finger, while
paying attention to your pulse.

Okay, all your attention is there on that fingernail … and taking a deep
breath now… and in a moment, I’ll say some phrases and then you’ll
repeat them back to me…So, everything I say you will say out loud after
I have said it, okay? (Wait for nod.) Okay… Repeat after me…

I will now enter the state of hypnosis. (Client repeats each phrase.)
For reasons of deep relaxation and self-control.
I will count from five down to zero.
And with each count I will become more deeply relaxed.
When I reach zero, I will go deep asleep.
Five… I begin to feel my breathing growing deep, gentle and
rhythmic.
Four… I begin to feel heaviness in my eyelids, as I become
drowsier and sleepier.
Three… I begin to feel every muscle, nerve and fiber in my body
relaxing, deeply relaxing.
Two… My arms, my legs, my entire body are now deeply relaxed.
One… My eyelids closing, breathing becoming more rhythmic, I
am deeply relaxed.
Zero… Deep Sleep!”

(Repeat Post-Hypnotic Suggestion) – “Each and every time I suggest

the words Deep Sleep to you, for the purpose of hypnosis and with your
permission, you will enter this state of hypnosis very quickly, calmly,
and deeply and the physical body will relax…”

purpose of hypnosis and with your permission, you will enter this state
of hypnosis very quickly, calmly, and deeply and the physical body will
relax…”

10. Staircase Deepening Technique

(In addition to a deepening technique, you can intersperse therapeutic
suggestions on the way down the stairs, if you so choose.)

“Now I want to you to visualize or imagine that you are standing at the
top of a beautiful staircase that is well-lit, with sturdy and smooth
handrails and it has 20 steps leading down to a bottom landing. You
have a sense of knowing that with each step down you will deepen your
state of hypnosis and more deeply relax and let go.

So now with your left foot you step down at 19, and your right foot at
18…twice as deep at 17…16…feeling yourself deeply relax …15…14…
13…twice as deep at 12…11…10…letting go at 9…8…twice as deep at
7…6…5…deeper still at 4…3…2…1…0…Deep Sleep.”

(If this is the first session: Repeat Post-Hypnotic Suggestion –

“Each and every time I suggest the words Deep Sleep to you, for the
purpose of hypnosis and with your permission, you will enter this state
of hypnosis very quickly, calmly, and deeply and the physical body will
relax…”)

11. Reactionary Deepening Technique

“Now in a moment, but not right now, I am going to have you open your
eyes and stare at a spot on the ceiling above you when I say, ‘open
your eyes’ and then close them again when I say ‘deep sleep.’

So now, open your eyes (wait for them to open their eyes – it can take a
few seconds sometimes).

And… Deep Sleep… twice as deep. (Snap fingers.)

Open your eyes…

And… Deep Sleep. (Snap fingers.)

Open your eyes…

And… Deep Sleep… twice as deep. (Snap fingers.)

And one more time, open your eyes…

And… Deep Sleep.” (Snap fingers.)

(If this is the first session: Repeat Post-Hypnotic Suggestion) –

“Each and every time I suggest the words Deep Sleep to you, for the
purpose of hypnosis and with your permission, you will enter this state
of hypnosis very quickly, calmly, and deeply and the physical body will
relax…”

12. Heavy/Light Deepening Technique

(A variation of this technique can be used as a secondary induction as
well as a suggestibility test, but this script is specifically for when your
client is already in hypnosis, and you are wanting to deepen their state.)

“Now I want you to open your eyes and put your arms out at shoulder
height in front of you like so… (demonstrate with your own arms). Now
your one palm is facing upward, and your other hand is in this position
(put your other hand out with palm facing inward and the thumb
sticking straight up). Go ahead and close your eyes. I want you to
imagine I’m placing a heavy bag of sand on your one hand pressing
downward. On the other thumb I’m tying many powerful helium
balloons. (Now simply allow them to take both the direction of the one
arm being pressed down and the inference of the other arm being
pulled up and watch what their arms do for a few moments.) Good.
Okay, you can go ahead and release both those feelings and ideas and
relax your arms and put both of them gently down onto your lap, and
Deep Sleep.”

(If this is the first session: Repeat Post-Hypnotic Suggestion) –

“Each and every time I suggest the words Deep Sleep to you, for the
purpose of hypnosis and with your permission, you will enter this state
of hypnosis very quickly, calmly, and deeply and the physical body will
relax…”

13. Hand-Pressed-to-Forehead Challenge

(This technique is often effective once you’ve completed the arm raising
and your client’s hand is already pressing against their forehead. The
italicized are in more of a paternal tone.)

“Now as you continue to feel your hand pressing into your forehead,
you have a very connected and comfortable sensation. It’s almost as
though you can imagine or visualize yourself as a solid marble statue
with your hand and head being one solid piece of beautiful marble and
you have such a connected and strong feeling of your hand pressing

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 23 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

into your forehead. And the feeling is so strong, that you may try to pull
your hand away, but the more you try, the stronger your hand presses
into your forehead. You may try and pull your hand away, but the more
you try, the stronger your hand presses into your forehead. So, at 5…
your body relaxes… 4… your mind is letting go… 3…you emotionally
feel calm…2…1…0…Deep Sleep.”

(If this is the first session: Repeat Post-Hypnotic Suggestion) –

“Each and every time I suggest the words Deep Sleep to you, for the
purpose of hypnosis and with your permission, you will enter this state
of hypnosis very quickly, calmly, and deeply and the physical body will
relax…”

“Now you can gently put your hand back down onto your lap.”

14. Arm Rigidity Challenge Deepening Technique

“Put your arm straight out, making a fist.

Now, picture all the tension in your body going into your arm.

And the more it travels to your arm, the tighter it becomes.

Feel it becoming tighter and tighter, stiffer and stiffer, with all the tension
flooding into your arm.

Your arm is so stiff that it feels like a steel bar all the way from your
shoulder to your wrist.

It’s becoming tighter and tighter, stiffer and stiffer, like a steel bar from
your shoulder to your wrist.

Now at 5 stiffer and stiffer,

4, tighter and tighter,

3, as stiff as a steel bar,

2, 1, and O, the more you try to bend it, the stiffer it becomes, the more
you try to bend it, the stiffer it becomes, the more you try to bend it, the
stiffer it becomes.

And now in a few moments, but not now, it will become as limp as a
wet noodle.

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 24 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

3, 2, 1, DROP your arm to your lap. All the tension drops away, any
limiting beliefs dropping away, and with every breath you remember to
remember to let go what no longer serves you. And that’s Deep Sleep.”

(If this is the first session: Repeat Post-Hypnotic Suggestion) –

“Each and every time I suggest the words Deep Sleep to you, for the
purpose of hypnosis and with your permission, you will enter this state
of hypnosis very quickly, calmly, and deeply and the physical body will
relax…”

15. Eye Fascination as a Secondary Induction

“From where you are sitting comfortably, you can just pick a spot on the
ceiling above you… so that your eyes are having to look up a bit and
finding that spot, just staring at it.

Great. Now, let your eyes rest on that …. and just look at that point….
just keep focusing on that spot, without moving your eyes…

(Take time for your breathing to match theirs.)

And while you keep looking at that spot, perhaps wandering away from
it but always coming back to it with your eyes in a gentle easy-going,
comfortable way, you can become aware of the muscles around your
eyes…. how they are holding your eyes up…. that’s right… and your
eyelids… and what they feel like….

You may (wait for them to blink) blink a bit more frequently (wait for
them to blink again) that’s right… and your breathing might get deeper,
as you relax.

Now, as your eyes are resting on that spot on the ceiling, attracting your
focus, your mind wrapped around the idea of that spot on the ceiling
where your eyes are resting now, the eyelids may perhaps become
heavy… or your eyes want to close. But I don’t want you to close them
just yet.

Let them remain open.

And blinking (wait for them to blink) that’s it, even more frequently now.
You might wonder if that blink is slower than normal….

And lots of people, as they begin to enter hypnosis, find that their focus
becomes increasingly fuzzy… their vision gets blurry… And as you look
at that spot you might see that it begins to waver… or maybe you see it
blurring … or that spot changes shape or color…

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 25 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

(Pause)

That’s it…

You may have noticed your arms and legs are getting heavy, as your
eyelids get heavier and heavier. And as you think about how nice it
would be to allow your eyes and eyelids to relax… and close those tired
eyes…

As you focus your eyes on that spot and as they become more tired
and heavier and more fatigued…

When you are ready, you can close your eyes. (Their eyes may already
be closed by now. If so, you would go straight onto the next line.)

(Pause)

And closing those eyes means you can relax now…. It feels so good…
so peaceful… as you really let yourself relax…

Breathing in for just a moment and breathing out, allowing the

relaxation to double again throughout your entire body. Going deeper
and deeper into a wonderful state of relaxation.

Deeper… deeply, that’s it… all the way…all the way… so at 5…your
body relaxes…4 your mind is letting go…3…feeling emotionally calm…
2…1…0…Deep Sleep.”

16. Finger-Spreading Conversion to Hypnosis

(The following can be used as a secondary induction in any of your
subsequent sessions.)

Have your client take their glasses off and if chewing gum, discard.

“OK, I’d like you to sit with your feet flat on the floor and place your
hands on your legs.

Raise your arm and bend it at the elbow and place the palm of your
hand in front of your face about 10 inches away, with your fingers
straight up and above eye level.

I want you to stare at your middle finger and take a deep breath and on
the exhale your fingers will begin to separate.

Separating, separating, wider and wider, farther and farther apart.

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 26 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

Separating, separating, wider and wider, farther and farther apart.

Separating, separating, wider and wider, farther and farther apart.

(Can repeat anywhere from 3-8 times.)

Now as your fingers continue to separate… I want you to tell me if you

think it is your hand or your arm that is starting to pull inward towards
your face. Is it the hand or arm that is pulling inward? (Wait for
response.)

(Physiological changes – remember to talk about the body’s reactions.)

Good… now the (hand/arm) will continue to pull in closer and closer
towards your face as your fingers continue to separate… and when you
begin to notice your breathing starting to get deeper and you are taking
in more oxygen… nod your head “Yes” and let me know… (Wait for
response.)

When you notice your eyelids starting to blink and becoming heavy, nod
your head “YES” and let me know… and the more your eyes blink, the
heavier they will become and the heavier they become, the more your
eyes will blink… becoming so heavy, so heavy now… they much rather
prefer to stay closed… Your (hand/arm) continues to pull in closer and
closer to your face, your breathing is getting deeper and your eyes are
feeling heavier with every breath that you take in… heavier and heavier
as the (hand/arm) pulls in towards the face.

(Repeat suggestions until the hand comes in to touch the face.)

When your (hand/arm) comes all the way in to touch your face, give me
a nod… the moment you make skin contact your eyes will close and
you will reach your peak of suggestibility and enter the hypnotic
sleep…”

When they make skin contact and nod say, “Deep Sleep.”

17. Guided Imagery as a Secondary Induction

“To simply begin, let’s just focus. Feel your breath. And take a nice easy
breath through your nose. And then slowly release through your mouth.
And in your own words, in your mind, give yourself permission to allow
me to guide you on this pleasant, guided imagery. And on the exhale of
your third breath or your 4th breath, as you exhale that breath, allow
your eyes to close. Okay. Although we can’t all visualize, we can all
imagine. And so, as I guide you, if you feel that you can’t see this as a

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 27 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

picture, know that that’s alright. Because we’re going to focus on other
sensory perceptions also. Or just think about or conceptualize. Or as
we say, just imagine if you can’t see this as a picture. And so, with the
breath and with your intention, you’ve allowed yourself to close your
eyes and open your receptiveness to my words. And we’re just going to
take a simple, gentle journey together. Just allow yourself to discover
how pleasant this can be. How comfortable this can be. Let’s start at
the top of your head. And gently work your way downward, allowing
any pressures from inside to release. Down over the facial muscles,
especially the jaw. It’s just releasing any tension. You might find it
becomes a very pleasant feeling. It’s a pleasant feeling that you’re
allowing and it’s flowing down over the shoulders. Down your arms and
your hands. And the pressures of your day releasing. This pleasant
feeling moves down through the chest and down through your back.
The stomach and lower back. And moving through the hips and all the
way down through your legs to the tips of your toes. A gentle feeling of
letting go. Now count backwards in your own mind along with me. As
we count backwards from 5 down to zero. At zero, we connect with
your wonderful imagination. And so, we begin at 5. Moving into that
wonderful part of you at 4… at 3… even deeper now… 2… 1… and 0…
that’s Deep Sleep as we call it. You feel the rhythm of your breath and
feel yourself opening your imaginative mind. And just allow yourself to
begin to visualize or imagine that we’re walking through a beautiful
meadow. It’s a wonderful day. And the temperature is just the way you
want it to be. And you can feel the earth beneath your feet. And there
might be kind of a sweet smell of nature around you. Perhaps some
wildflowers, blossoming. And walking along the meadow you see a
beautiful bird flying in the sky. Majestic and free. There’s a free feeling
you feel inside as you imagine this and continue this gentle journey.
Feel the softness of the earth. Smell the richness of nature. And you
can actually hear a gentle breeze moving through some distant trees.
And then walking, you notice before you there’s a single, solitary,
beautiful tree at the top of a little hill beyond the meadow. As you
continue to walk towards it you witness how wonderfully this tree is
formed. The sound of leaves gently moving in the breeze. And the
sounds and the smells and images create this feeling of ease and
comfort. And as you come closer to the tree you notice near the top of
the tree, on the tip of one of the branches, there’s a single, solitary leaf.
And in the breeze, you stop, and you watch it kind of twist and turn.
And twist and turn. And something in you knows that if you watch that
leaf it’s about to break free. And all at once you see the leaf is free from
the branch. And the breeze carries it slowly back and forth, kind of
gliding down, down, towards the earth. You watch as it glides down to

https://hypnosis.edu/resident/101/classes/101-5 Page 28 of 30
Amina Floyd - Practicum Scripts - Workbook 11/7/24, 8:42 PM

a stop near the base of the tree. And you walk over, and you look down
at that leaf. You see the earth there and you see the leaf. And there are
the roots of the tree. And then you notice there’s a single, solitary blade
of grass. And it has persevered and grown strong because of its
motivation. In the same way that you are motivated in your life. And you
can take the information that we’ve talked about and begin to
understand it and help yourself with it. And that feels wonderful. And
so, in this beautiful place, with this wonderful image in your mind of the
smells, the sounds, the physical and emotional positive feelings, we’re
going to bring all of those forward with you.”

(From here you can give further therapeutic suggestions or if wanting to

create more depth, do some further deepening techniques.)

18. Self-Hypnosis
Get in a semi-comfortable position. Create an eye fascination (stare at a
point above and in front of you).

Take 3 breaths (inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth,
relaxing the jaw) and close the eyes on the exhale of the third breath.

Focus on the top of the head and repeat the physical keyword to self:
____________________

Work down through every section of the body, repeating the physical
keyword, and flowing with that physical feeling.

Count down from 5 to 0. At zero, focus on your breathing, then repeat

the emotional keyword: ____________________ and try to REALLY feel it.

Then walk down a staircase of 20 steps.

At zero, say the intellectual keywords to self: DEEP SLEEP.

Give the suggestions prepared for self with feeling. Feel the words. Feel
the suggestions.

Repeat the suggestions several times with feeling.

Then count from 0 up to 5. Tell self, “Eyes open, wide awake.”

(Can add “to a completely non-suggestible state” if you have

somnambulistic tendencies.)
