DC FLAP MECHANICAL ACTUATION SYSTEM - INSPECTION/CHECK

TASK 27-54-02-640
1. DC Flap Mechanical Actuation System Lubrication
A. General
(1) This task includes the lubrication of the flap actuator ball screws, the flap flex drive cables, and the flap carriage rollers.
(2) For the specific lubrication requirements, refer to Chapter 12, Flight Controls - Servicing.
B. Lubricate the Flap Actuator Ball Screws.
NOTE: Airplanes -0001 thru -7067 incorporating SB650-27-47 and airplanes -7068 and On, the actuator gear
housing must also be lubricated.
(1) Wipe the grease fittings and adjacent areas with a clean dry cloth.
(2) With a grease gun and a MS24203-1 adapter, force grease (MIL-PRF-21164) into the fittings until the old grease comes
out of the ends of the ball screw nuts.
(3) Wipe off unwanted grease.
C. Lubricate the Flap Flex Drive Cables.
NOTE: Only one flex drive shaft is to removed at a time and must be reinstalled before another shaft is
removed. This will make sure that the actuator screws are kept in position.
NOTE: If more than one flex drive shaft is removed at one time, the flap system must be mechanically and
electrically rigged.
(1) Remove the flex drive shafts. Refer to DC Flap Mechanical Actuation - Maintenance Practices, Flex Driveshaft Assemblies
Removal/Installation.
(2) Inspect and lubricate the flex drive shafts. Refer to the manufacturer's Maintenance Manual SAMM-140353 shown in the
Introduction, Supplier Publication List.
(3) Install the flex drive shafts. Refer to DC Flap Mechanical Actuation - Maintenance Practices, Flex Driveshaft Assemblies
Removal/Installation.
D. Lubricate the Flap Carriage Rollers.
(1) Wipe the roller attaching bolt and adjacent areas with a clean dry cloth.
(2) With a grease gun and a MS24203-1 adapter, force grease (MIL-PRF-21164) into the roller attaching bolt until the old
grease comes out between each end of the roller and yoke surface.
(3) Wipe off unwanted grease.
E. Lubricate the Flap Actuator Gear Housing (Airplanes -0001 thru -7068 Incorporating SB650-27-47 and airplanes -7069 and
On).
CAUTION: Remove the flap flex drive cables from the flap actuator to lubricate the gear housing. If you do not
remove the flap flex drive cables from the actuator, it can cause in cross contamination of the flex drive
shaft lubricant MIL-PRF-81322 with the flap actuator gear housing lubricant MIL-PRF-21164. This
contamination can cause a malfunction of the flap system.
(1) First disconnect flex drive cables (or in the case of the inboard actuator, the angle gearbox).
(2) Apply grease with appropriate grease gun until clean grease extrudes from the drive sockets.
(3) Wipe up all extruded grease.
(4) Reinstall flex drive cables or angle gearbox.
