Impact of World War I on Society

The First World War, lasting from 1914 to 1918, resulted in the downfall of four monarchies and significant changes in global power dynamics, particularly elevating the U.S. to a leading industrial power. The war also triggered a devastating influenza epidemic that claimed more lives than the war itself and transformed social roles, particularly for women. Ultimately, the war led to the creation of new nation-states, independence movements, and set the stage for future conflicts, including the rise of communism and fascism.
