Unit 22:

Dear Kate,

I hope you are well. Are you busy at the moment? I would like to make an
appointment to see you. I want to talk to you about our new sales strategy. Are you
available next week? I have an appointment with my accountant on Monday morning,
and I can meet you after lunch. Are you free at one o’clock, or later? I am also free all
day the next day. What day and time would be good for you?

Many thanks,

Elizabeth Carter

Unit 25:

Dear all,

I’m going on a trip on Monday, to our client’s office in Washington. I’m driving, and I’m
coming back to the office on Tuesday morning. I’m only in the office on Tuesday
morning for about two or three hours. On Tuesday afternoon, I am taking a taxi to the
airport because I’m going on vacation with my family. I’m flying to Mexico City on
Tuesday evening. Then I am back in the office on the morning of Monday, April 15th.

All the best,

Mike Gomez

– How do I get to your office?

– Go to the bus stop, and get on the number 30 bus. Go two stops, and get off at
Queen Street. Or, you can take a taxi. Get into the taxi, and tell the driver you want to
go to LHM Consultants at 501, Queen Street. Get out at Queen Street, and our building
is the one with the big blue doors.

Dear Martin,

It’s great that you’re coming to our office next week.

You can get here by subway. From the airport, take the Blue Line (Line 3) to 28th
Street. Then change to the Red Line (Line 1) and go four stops until you get to the
Vermont Avenue stop. Get off the train and when you leave the subway station, you
can see our building on the right.

You can also go by bus. From the airport, take the number 190 bus, and go eleven
stops to Christopher Street. Then go on foot to our office. Go straight, turn left at the
first street, and you’re on Vermont Avenue.

Of course, you can take a taxi, too. That’s my favorite way! Just tell the driver you’d
like to go to 275 Vermont Avenue.

See you next week,

Marion Capaldi

Unit 27:

Hi Ruben,

How is everything at home? It’s great here. Miami is beautiful. I’m not buying any
postcards, so I’m writing this email instead!

I’d like to buy you something here. What would you like? They have many gift stores
here, so I can buy you a souvenir! How about a T-shirt for you or your children? They
have a few nice T-shirts in the gift store here in the hotel. Or maybe a sweatshirt? I can
buy one at the airport. I’d like to buy you some chocolate, but they don’t sell any in the
gift shop. Anything else?

See you soon,

Katy

Unit 28:

– Hello, I’m looking for a handbag for my wife. She’s 30 tomorrow. How much does this
handbag cost?
– Which one? This black one?
– No, the brown one. It looks very nice.
– Yes, it is. The price is $299.
– Oh, that’s not cheap. Can I look at the black one, please?
– Sure. The price tag is there, on the bag.
– OK, so this one costs $125. That’s not expensive. Can I buy this one?
– Of course!
Unit 34:

Hello Dr. Walker,

I am writing because you missed a call yesterday from Mr. Arturo Soto.
He called at 2:34, while you were in the meeting with the sales
managers. He called again today at 9:30, but you were away from your
desk. He wanted to talk to you about his appointment with you on
Thursday, and he asked me to give you a message. Last week, he
scheduled a meeting with you for Thursday at 2:00 p.m. But he would
like to reschedule it to 3:30. Is that OK? Could you return his call today,
please, as soon as possible? His number is 312-555-4907, and he is
available after 3 o’clock today.
Thank you,

Unit 39
– Hi Emma, are you doing anything on Saturday night?
– No, Linda. I finished all my work today. Would you like to go out or do
something with me?
– Sure. Why don’t we go to the movies?
– I checked the movies this afternoon. There are only three, and I think
there’s nothing I really want to see. How about a concert?
– There is something on at the Jazz Club …
– But that’s very far away. And I don’t like jazz very much.
– Oh, this town isn’t very interesting.
– How about going away for the weekend?
– Really? Where to?
– Let’s go to the city for the whole day on Saturday. There are lots of
museums and shops—more than there are here. We can come back in
the evening.
– It’s an interesting idea. OK, let’s do it!
