Assessment: PATHFIT - 3 (150 points)

Understand the directions and answer the following questions:

1. Discuss briefly and differentiate the dance choreography from dance

composition. (25 points)
Dance choreography refers to the detailed plan that specifies the steps,
movements, and patterns that dancers follow; it focuses on the "what" of the
performance — what actions are performed. In contrast, dance composition
looks at the overall story and artistic vision behind the work. It addresses the
"why" and "how" of the dance, including themes, emotions, and the intended
effect on the audience. This aspect involves the creative choices made by the
artist, the story being told, the mood of the piece, and the overall impact it
aims to have. In short, choreography deals with the specific movements in a
dance, while composition focuses on the larger artistic ideas and messages
behind it.

2. Enumerate and discuss the different Basic Choreographic elements. (10

points for each correct answer) 50 points

THE DIFFERENT CHOREOGRAPHIC ELEMENTS ARE;

SPACE - It is the area where the dancer moves, including the shapes,
patterns, and paths they create.
TIME - the rhythmic aspect of dance, including the tempo, rhythm, and
duration of movement. Choreographers can use timing to create tension,
generate impact, or coincide with music.
BODY - the human body is the instrument of dance. Choreographers use the
body's capabilities and limitations to create movement vocabulary.
FORCE - refers to the energy and momentum behind the movement. It's the
quality of the movement, how it feels.
RELATIONSHIP - encompasses the interaction between dancers, objects,
and the space around them. It's how the dance connects with its
surroundings.

3. Explain why dynamics is very important in dance choreography? (25

points)
Dynamics in dance are crucial because they bring life and emotion to dance
choreography and movements. They infuse the dancer's performance with
unique energy, transforming it from mere steps or routines into something
vibrant and engaging. Without this, a dance can feel flat and monotonous,
lacking the expressive power needed to truly captivate the audience.
Therefore, dynamics are essential for creating a compelling and engaging
dance experience.

TO DO [ 50 points]

Describe the following pictures comprehensively, as it connotes the choreographic

application to the picture form.

Picture 1

This picture depicts two dancers in a dynamic pose, with the woman being lifted
and extended that highlights the capabilities and limitations of the human body.
There is a choreographic element that showcases the intimate and physically
demanding relationship between the dancers, emphasizing their connection. They
occupy a relatively small space, which draws attention to their interaction. It also
shows a strong dynamic where their movements are artistic, which show both
strength and grace that clear contrast between the stillness of the supporting
dancer and the graceful reach of the lifted dancer, which creates a powerful image.
This invites viewers to appreciate the beauty of dance and the physical and
emotional bonds it represents.

Picture 2
The group of dancers against a bright background, where their shadow highlights
their shapes and forms that directs attention to their movement instead of the
details of their bodies and costumes. This technique not only emphasizes their
physicality but also enhances the overall visual appeal of the scene. Moreover, the
dancers' poses and gestures tell a story or express emotions, creating a narrative
that engages the viewer, their closeness and synchronized movements illustrate
their relationships, which adds depth to their performance. Additionally, the energy
of the performance comes from their dynamic poses and the sense of movement
that radiates from the group. While the force of their actions isn’t directly visible, it
is suggested through their momentum, which indicates a lively and engaging
performance. This captures a moment that is part of a larger performance,
showcasing a variety of movements and emotions.
