(Literacy Training Services)
Course Code: NSTP2- LTS
Course Credit: 3 units, 3 hours/week (18 weeks, 54hours total)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The National Service Training Program (NSTP), Curricular Program for Literacy Training Service (LTS).
Literacy Training Service (LTS) is a component of NSTP that focuses on training NSTP students to become teachers of reading-writing literacy and
numeracy to children, out-of-school youth and other segments of society. It creates an avenue to reach out to unprivileged community/ individuals that were
not able to get formal education. It offers aid for all the learners especially the non-readers. LTS can realize the ideals to be a citizen playing a vital part in
creating a Philippines a better place of our generation and the generation to come.
PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION
All freshmen students, male or female enrolled in NSTP 2 component of their choice are required to undergo community immersion for a period
covering a minimum of 54 hours to maximum of 90 hours.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, the students should have developed the ability to:
1. Discuss and articulate the latest developments in the specific field of practice.
2. Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
3. Work effectively an independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
4. Act in recognition of professional, social and ethical responsibilities.
5. Apply knowledge of computing fundamentals, knowledge of computing specialization.
6. An ability to apply strategies on teaching reading through letter sounds and letter names.
7. Design and evaluate solutions for complex computing problems and design and evaluate system, components or process that meet specified needs
with appropriate consideration.
8. Create, select, adapt and apply appropriate techniques, resources in modern computing tools and reading tools to complex activities.

The final course grade will be evaluated according to the following formula:
1. Eighty percent (80%) attendance or better.
2. The passing standard shall be the grade of 75%. To get the percentile grade, the number of correct answers called raw score shall be
divided by the total number of test points and multiplied by 100. Percentage is used in determining and expressing students raw score in
every examination, quiz and recitation. The table below shows a sample of the range of percentage marks and their corresponding
equivalents.

COURSE ASSESSMENT
1. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class similar to participating in project implementation/community immersion.
Students are expected to attend every class. The absence of more than twenty percent or three consecutives of the required number of
meetings in lectures and/or community extension will result in DROPPED grade. Missed exams will require proof extenuating
circumstances
2. Methods of instruction will include round-robin discussion and demonstration that discuss key terms, concepts and formulae of the
assigned chapter. During the discussion, a quiz about the basic concepts of each chapter will be given
3. Community Extension/ immersion will be done after all the topics was discussed. Students are expected to be ready/ prepared in teaching
literacy and numeracy. Every after two weeks of community extensions students must report in school during their schedule for the
feedbacking and open forum.
4. All students are expected to behave with academic honesty. It is not academically honest, for example, to misrepresent another’s persons
word or ideas as one’s own to take credit for someone else work.
