Living in a foreign country where you are unable to speak your mother tounge can
lead to serious problems in society and practice. From my perspective, I partly
agree with this opinion and this essay will elaborate on both sides and give some
examples.
On the one hand, speaking a foreign language may cause people in trouble.
Learning a second language can be hard and cost a lot of time, so it may cause
language barrier for travellers and locals, and making friends seem to be harder
too. Moreover, travellers who choose to stay for a long time may be surprised by a
new world in a new country, they don’t have much time to adapt to a new language
so they are easily tricked by locals. For example, in Vietnam, many video clips
posting on social network show that locals often increase the price when selling to
foreigners, such as a kilogram of green apple cost only 50,000vnd but they sell at
even 100,000 or 200,000.
On the other hand, a second language can help travellers in daily life. They
can communicate with locals, their neighborhood. Living is staying for a long time
so a second language is an indispensable thing, it makes you get along with a new
life instead of feeling isolated.
To sum up, beside the benefit and importance of speaking a second
language, I partly agree with this view. There are much more problems that
learners have to deal with.
