7 Read the article. Are the sentences true (T) or false (F)?
Tanzania is a large country in East Africa. It has an area of 945,203 square kilometres and a population of nearly 44
million. Most people think the capital is Dar es Salaam in the east of the country but that is wrong. The capital is
Dodoma.

The weather in Tanzania is hot all year round. The coolest months are usually June to October and the hottest December
to March. Tanzania has the highest mountain in Africa – Mount Kilimanjaro – and it also has 804 kilometres of
beautiful white beaches. It produces coffee, tea and cotton.
Many people think Tanzania is the most beautiful country in Africa. Most tourists go there because it is famous for its
wild animals, for example lions, elephants, cheetahs, hippos, buffalo and wildebeest. They can see these animals in the
Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater in the north of the country and the Selous Game Reserve in the
south-east.
The island of Zanzibar is part of Tanzania. It has a population of 1.1 million and an area of 2,332 square kilometres. The
weather on the island is very hot all year round but March to June is the rainy season and there is another short rainy
season from September to November. Zanzibar has an interesting history. The Arab people went there over a thousand
years ago and then the Persians arrived four hundred years later. In 1500 the Portuguese came to the island. In the 1700s
Oman controlled the island and in 1890 it became part of the British Empire.
