ZACATLÁN DE LAS MANZANAS
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to this beautiful magic town, go to explore the marvelous culture of this place, taste all the
traditional food (with apples, obviously), and make you sure to stay warm here, we don’t want a
frozen tourist!

LOCATION
Zacatlán is located in Puebla, bettwen Ahuacatlán and Tetela de Ocampo, if you are from Mexico City,
you’re so lucky! It’s at two and a half hours away by car.

HISTORY
Before the Spanish conquest, the place’s name was just “Zacatlán”, because the Zacatecas originally
lived there, but in the 18th century, the apples became the main crop, so the new name was
“Zacatlán de las manzanas”
CULTURE
Actually, you can see the spanish influence in more things, like architecture or in the art, nowadays,
Zacatlán is one of the largest apple producers in Mexico, cool, right? You can visit the San Pedro
waterfall or the Alberto Olvera Clock and Automata Museum.

LONG LIFE TO APPLES!

Well, there are a lot of apples in Zacatlán, and there are a lot of delicious food with apples too, like
tamales, atole, mole or cider, but, if you are allergic, you can also enjoy the gastronomy, with mixiote,
tlacoyos or cheese bread.

ART
In my opinion, Zacatlán has one of the most beautiful murals in Mexico, the “Barranca Walk Mural”,
the mural has 100 meters long and illustrates images referring to the town’s traditions.

Teposcolula is located in Oaxaca, at 120 kilometers from Oaxaca de Juárez, and it’s part of the
Mixtec región.

His name comes from Nahuatl, and means “Next to the coper twist”.
Teposcolula was one of the places where the Spanish arrived, and their influence was so rude in all
the aspects, you can see it in the architecture, food, dances and more.

If you’re walking around the town, you can see and the beautiful culture in places like the “Casa de la

Casica” an awesome palace with Mixtec-Spanish architecture, or maybe you want to go to the

You're probably hungry after walking all day, so, it’s the perfect moment to recommend you the best
food in Oaxaca, the mole amarillo, a delicious pozole and chiles rellenos, to accompany, we
recommend the chilacayote water, so fresh!

ART
I think Teposcolula has one of the best art expressions in Oaxaca, and I’m talking about the “Danza
de las mascaritas”, because shows the evil and the death, each one with a character, the devil and a
skeleton. This dance is considered a ritual, because they dance to drive away the evil.
