BIODIVERSITY:
ADAPTABILITY
Learning Outcomes
1. Identify the different types of Adaptation of
animals through its environment
2. Assemble a puzzle and present it to the class.
3. Recognize the importance of adaptation in
real – life scenario.
ACTIVITY 2 - “ BIO - PUZZLE”
The class will be divided to 4
Each group will be given a puzzle and must assign 1 member to
present the output.
The students will be given 2 mins to complete the puzzle.
Then each group will be given 1 minute to present the puzzle along
with their answer to the question.
ACTIVITY 2 - “ BIO - PUZZLE”
Rubrics:
Visual - 30% - 6pts
Content - 40% - 8 pts
Delivery - 20% - 4 pts
Punctuality - 10 % - 2- pts
TOTAL = 100% - 20pts
ACTIVITY 2 - “ BIO - PUZZLE”
Guide Question:
[Link] have you observed in the puzzle?
[Link] do you think were their roles in the
biodiversity?
Every organism has a unique
ecosystem within which it
lives-its natural habitat.
This is where its basic needs
to survive are met
HABITAT
where a group of species lives
together for food, water, shelter, and
reproduction
are constantly changing and evolving
Animals living within must
constantly adapt to environmental
changes, big or small
ADAPTATION
Is all about survival.
When the environment
dramatically changes, some
animals move to other places,
others die, and some develop
adaptations over generations to
survive.
ADAPTATION
is the ability of an
organism to
adjust or thrive in
environment.
Importance
of
Adaptation
Protection
Food Source
Preservation
of species
Structural / Physical Adaptation
using body structures to
help an animal survive
These are:
Camouflage
Mimicry
Chemical Defenses
Body Coverings
Camouflage
a defense mechanism
or tactic that the
organisms use to
disguise their
appearance, usually to
blend in with their
surroundings.

Mimicry
ability of an organism to imitate and
copycat another species in terms of
sound, appearance, smell, behavior or
location to protect itself.
refers to the resemblance of an animal
species to another species or to natural
objects.

mantis
Chemical defenses
include substances
utilized by prey which
are harmful to
invading organisms.
Body coverings
cover the body
and protect
animals from
external factors.
Behavioral Adaptation
How animals respond or act to life needs.
An attitude or action that the organism do
in order to survive.
This includes:
Hibernation
Migration
Learned Behaviors
Hibernation
when animals bare sleep as a response to
cold weather and survive the cold winter.
Migration
a behavioral adaptation
that involves an animal
or group of animals
travelling from one
place to another and
then back again when
seasons change.
Learned Behaviors
These animal behaviors
are obtained and
acquired by interacting
with the environment
and cannot be passed on
to the next generation
except by teaching.
Activity 3
How do I adapt?
identify the different types
of Adaptation of animals
through its environment
Environmental Change
1. Migratory birds
travelling
seasonally to find
a climate best
suited for their
survival
Environmental Change
2. Pufferfish emits
toxins when eaten by
a predator
Environmental Change
3. Plants grow
towards the sun to
get more sunlight.
Environmental Change
4. Polar bears have
thick fur to keep
them warm.

5. This animal were
able to put himself
playing a skateboard.

Activity 4
“The Struggle is
Real! Adapt,
Migrate or Die?”
identify which species of plants or
animals will be able to survive,
migrate and die.
Environmental Change
1. Three birds loved to eat beetles especially
the green (female) and the brown
(male). But their favorites are the green
beetles. Generations later, green beetles
have been selected, and brown beetles
have increased in number.
Which species of plants or animals will be able to....

Let's Reflect!

innovations in human technology or daily
life?
