How to Describe Color . . .

Colors may be described as:


• Bold • Vivid • Matching
• Pale • Saturated • Monochrome
• Pastel • Flat • Muted
• Pleasing • Intense • Opalescent
• Colorful • Deep • Rich
• Clashing • Delicate • Somber
• Contrasting • Festive • Soft
• Dull • Fiery • Translucent
• Bright • Glowing • Vibrant
• Hot • Harmonious • Washed-out
• Cold • Iridescent

While you can use words such as beautiful, fun, or gorgeous, be careful. These are
words that can be used to describe most anything and not just color.

And remember: Be creative in your use of words to describe color:

Examples:
– How does the color make you feel?

– What is the color used for?

– What objects are normally this color?

– Where do you see this color in the world?

– Is the color a combination of other colors?

– What do you think of when you see this color?
