Swimming Pool Design and Construction Guide

The document outlines the design and construction aspects of a swimming pool, including its dimensions, materials, and load calculations. It details the water treatment system and structural components necessary for maintaining the pool, as well as the heating system using heat pumps. The information provided is essential for understanding the engineering and maintenance requirements of a rooftop swimming pool.

ACCESSING THE LOADS
The first step is understanding the additional loads a pool requires on the
terrace. Using water’s specific weight, at 1000 kg/mc, one can assess the load
per square meter transmitted by the pool, making it comparable to accidental
project loads used for floor calculations.
For every 10 cm of water height, the floor load increases by 100 kg/sqm. Thus,
for water heights of:
20 cm, the load will be 200 kg/sqm;
50 cm, the load will be 500 kg/sqm;
100 cm, the load will be 1000 kg/sqm.
Pool height 172cm,the load is 1720 kg/sqm
Total loads-430500 kg/sqm
Water treatment system
Overlooking the design of swimming pools, the system around the shell consisting of the water is called the water treatment
system which controls right water values and circulations. In the water treatment system for a relatively considered small
swimming pool facility as

This concrete structure design is

common regarding rooftop swimming
pools built with a structural vault and
set above uniformly spaced structural
supports. The components exist
generally with a structural vault
(supporting concrete slab) bearing the
interior parts of the swimming pool of a
multilayered waterproofing layer,
drainage composite, insulation of
geofoam separation layer and a
cladding of the swimming pool floor.
The structural vault is then designed
with topping mortar contributing a small
slope where water can transfer into a
central drain removing the water from
the swimming pool in cases of leakages
or diffusion of water from the inside
swimming pool. Beneath the swimming
pool consists generally of finished space
containing maintenance rooms where
treatment systems are held

HEATING SYSTEM

Heat Pumps
• Mechanism: Heat pumps transfer
heat from the air to the pool water.
They work by using electricity to
capture heat from the surrounding air
and then transferring it to the pool
water through a heat exchanger.
• Components: Heat pump unit,
evaporator, compressor, condenser,
and fan.
• Advantages: Heat pumps are energy-
efficient and can function in a range of
outdoor temperatures, although they
perform best in warm climates.
