What is self-awareness?
Means knowing yourself
What you like and dislike – I dislike when my food touch each other on my plate.
Interests – music, art or horseback riding
Skills – good singer
Strengths and weaknesses – I am a good listener – I don’t know how to share my own feelings
Goals , wishes and hopes – I would like to become a psychologist (horse therapy)
Values and beliefs – I want to be a kind person who is always honest and true
What is Self –Esteem?
How much I like myself
How much you like, rate and value yourself
How confident you are, how much you believe in yourself
High self – esteem Low self – esteem
Likes himself Thinks she is ugly (dislikes herself)
Confident Has no confidents ( ashamed of herself)
Knows his strengths and weaknesses Only sees her weaknesses
Tries to improve his weaknesses Does nothing to improve herself

Strategies to build confidence in
yourself and in others
Helpful ways to improve your and others’ confidence are:
◦ Developing good communication skills (be assertive and practise public speaking)
◦ Finishing tasks successfully (manage your time)
◦ Taking part in community activities (through volunteering)
◦ Making good decisions (take responsibility; implement the 5 step decision making
process)
◦ Affirming others (support, encourage and give praise)
Action plan to build self-esteem
◦ Make a practical action plan to help you to develop yourself:
Acknowledge and respect uniqueness and differences
◦ Uniqueness – That every person is different in some ways, and is special.
◦ There are many similarities amongst people, but also differences.
◦ People have different looks, cultures, beliefs, skills, interests, ideas, needs,
values.
◦ Respect differences.
◦ Always imagine how you would feel if you were the other person.
