PRACTICAL WORK 1
Construct simple and complex electrical
wiring diagrams and electronic
CLO 2 schematics using AutoCAD software PLO 5
and based on American/British technical
symbol standard

A. OBJECTIVES

To create a drawing template of A3 size using AutoCAD software

B. LEARNING OUTCOME

At the end of the practical session, student should be able to:

i. Apply draw commands.
ii. Apply drawing aids.
iii. Apply text commands

C. TOPIC SUMMARY/ THEORY

LIMITS
There are two methods of doing this.
i. Type Limits at the command prompt. OR
ii. Click FORMAT LIMITS from the Pull-down menu (AutoCAD Classic).

Example 1:
Command: limits
Reset Model space limits:
Specify lower left corner or [ON/OFF] <0.0,0.0>: 0.0
Specify upper right corner <0.0,0.0>: 420,297

Standard Drawing Sheet Sizes-Millimeters

i. A4 = 210 x 297
ii. A3 = 297 x 420
iii. A2 = 420 x 594
iv. A1 = 594 x 841
v. A0 = 841 x 1189
UNITS
There are two methods of doing this.
i. Type Units at the command prompt. OR
ii. Click FORMAT UNITS from the Pull-down menu (AutoCAD Classic).

GRID AND SNAP

i. On the status bar, pick snap settings.
ii. The Drafting Settings dialog box appears below.
iii. Select the Snap On (F9) and Grid On (F7) options.

LINE

i. Type Pline or just PL at the command prompt Or
ii. From the Draw icon, choose the Polyline.

Example 1:
Command: Pline
Specify start point: 60,60
Specify next point or (arc/halfwidth/length/undo/width): w
Starting width: 2
Ending width: 2

TEXT, DTEXT (Dynamic text) AND MTEXT (Multiline text)

Single-line text is created with the DTEXT command. TEXT is now an alias for the DTEXT command;
typing either at the command line runs DTEXT. You can define a few properties such as a single font
or a preset height in a text style, but MTEXT can formatting multiline text, changing things such as font,
size, and colour, and structuring text in columns.

D. MATERIAL / TOOLS
i. Desktop Computer/laptop
ii. AutoCAD software

E. GENERAL INSTRUCTION / SAFETY PROCEDURE

1. Start a new project or open an existing one.

2. Set up the drawing environment (units, layers, grid, etc.).
3. Save the drawing (.dwg)/template (.dwt) with PW1_MatrixNo
F. WORK INSTRUCTION / PROCEDURE

1. Draw the Border:

i. Use PLINE with a width of 1 to draw the outer border (380x270).
ii. Use LINE to draw the inner divisions (10 mm from the top and bottom, 15 mm from the left for
the title block).

2. Draw the Title Block:

i. Use LINE to create the title block sections as shown (30 mm sections on the left and right,
190 mm in the middle).
ii. Add the horizontal divisions to create spaces for TOPIC, ELECTRONIC SYMBOL, NAME, ID
NO., DATE, SCALE, and PWORK.

3. Add Text:
i. Use TEXT to add text labels with the specified text heights (6, 4, 12).
ii. Ensure the text is placed in the correct location as shown in the diagram.
