Reflection Paper on Romeo and Juliet

The musical play I watched was Romeo and Juliet, It is based on William Shakespeare’s famous
tragedy but presented in a musical format. Before watching, I expected it to be full of drama and
romance, especially since I already knew the basic story. I was also curious about how music
would make the story feel different. After watching, I was surprised by how much emotion the
music added, making the story feel even more intense and heartbreaking.

The story follows Romeo and Juliet, two young lovers from rival families, the Montagues and
Capulets. Despite their families' hatred for each other, they secretly get married. However, their
happiness is short-lived due to a series of tragic events, including the death of Romeo’s friend
Mercutio and Juliet’s cousin Tybalt. In the end, their love leads to their untimely deaths, which
finally makes their families realize the cost of their feud. The main characters are Romeo, who is
impulsive and passionate, and Juliet, who is innocent yet brave in love. The central theme of the
play is the power of love and the consequences of hatred.

First of all, the play made me feel a mix of emotions—excitement, frustration, and sadness. The
most touching moment was when Romeo and Juliet sang about their love, knowing they could
never be together. Additionally, the ending was heartbreaking, especially with the emotional
music playing as they died. The actors did an amazing job expressing their emotions through
both acting and singing. The music added a deeper layer to the story, making the sad scenes even
more powerful. Even though the story is old, it still connects to real life. It shows how love can
be beautiful but also dangerous when surrounded by conflict. Many people can relate to feeling
restricted by family expectations or society’s rules. I’ve also learned that the play teaches that
hatred only leads to pain and loss. If the Montagues and Capulets had put aside their pride
earlier, Romeo and Juliet wouldn’t have had such a tragic fate. It also shows that love, while
powerful, needs to be approached with wisdom, not just emotions. And finally, the play’s biggest
strength was its emotional delivery through music. It made the story feel fresh even though it’s
centuries old. However, sometimes the old-fashioned language made it a bit hard to understand,
but the music helped convey the meaning.

Overall, Romeo and Juliet was a unique and emotional experience. The musical format made the
classic story even more dramatic and engaging. It left a strong impact on me, reminding me how
powerful love and hatred can be. I would recommend this to others, especially those who enjoy
musicals or classic love stories. Even if you already know the story, the music adds a whole new
layer of emotion that makes it worth watching.
