3rd Year, 5th Semester Session 2025

Subject: Materials & Building Construction II

Semester 5 project:

Students are required to draw floor plans of a Student Housing facility fulfilling the following
requirements;

 Students are required to take a portion of their studio project which has core facilities
like basement parking, lift wells and staircases etc and it has to be built in Lahore
falling under LDA and complying to LDA bylaws.
 The building must be erected as concrete frame structure with fabrication and finishes
material of own choice.
 The building must include a Basement as a parking, Ground floor, First floor and
Second floor as student amenities like reception, lodging, idea exchange facilities, gym,
lounges, cafes, labs, library and reading rooms etc. and Rooftop as a roof
garden/recreational area, cafe or a swimming pool.
 The building must include car ramp towards basement or add-on car lifts and a
lift leading from basement to roof top.

Objectives:

 To integrate studio project with Building Construction class to bridge design with
construction details and implementation.
 To familiarize students with current building construction practices by understanding
feasibility and practical implication of the theoretical learnings.
 To have a complete understanding of a small/medium scale building from beginning to
completion i.e. excavation, foundation to complete structure with finishes developing a
sense of suitable materials selection and construction methods for it.
 To make students aware of sequence and relation of construction processes.
 To make them able to understand and draw working drawings which play a vital role in
execution of the proposed design.

Deliverables:

Students are required to submit required parts of the assignment on weekly basis comprising of
plans, sections and blow-up details mentioning specifications and details.
It should be submitted in the studio on weekly basis and assessment will be done on practical
implications, accurate specs and details and professional drawings.
Note: Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will cause assignments ungraded.
Part 1: Drawings and details

1 Plans: You are required to draw a Student Housing Facility Building with following details;
 Students must draw Basement Layout Plan , Ground Floor Layout plan, First Floor
Layout plan, Second Floor Layout plan and a Rooftop Layout plan.
 Must have student amenities like reception, lodging, idea exchange facilities, gym,
lounges, cafes, labs, library and reading rooms etc with covered area as per LDA
 bylaws.
 Must have roof garden or a rooftop café or recreational area or a swimming pool.
 Basement (Built as RCC structure), Ground floor (Built as RCC + suitable structure as
mandatory requirement), First floor (Built as RCC + suitable structure as mandatory
requirement) & Second floor (Built as RCC + suitable structure as mandatory
requirement).

2 Sections: Draw a whole section of the building mentioning all dimensions and
detailsfollowing the building laws and mention general notes.
 Draw a section focusing on Concrete footings of the same Building with;
 All specifications and details mentioned.
 Blow up details of Retaining wall and Columns joining to the footings.
 Also mention the additional treatments like water proofing, termite proofing
etcwhere required.

3 Lift and car ramp details:


Mark Car ramp and lift-well in plans and draw sections, blow-ups and all necessary
detailsand also draw machine room details for the lift.

4 Blow up details & stairs:


Draw blow up sections for;
 Columns to beams joinery and slab over it with all details and specs mentioned.
 Stairs section with all details and specs mentioned.
 Roofing section with all details and specs mentioned.

5 Septic tank & underground Water Tank:


 Mark location of septic tank and underground water tank and Over-head Water Tank in the
Building plans.

6 Rooftop cafe/Roof Garden/Recreational Area/Swimming pool Details:


Draw a plan and section of rooftop garden with all necessary details, specs and
treatmentsOR a cafe.
