Should Caring for Elders Be Law?

The essay discusses the debate over whether younger people should be legally responsible for caring for their older family members. While it acknowledges the ethical obligation to care for elders due to familial bonds, it argues that such responsibility should not be mandated by law, as caregiving is a societal issue and can vary based on individual family dynamics. Ultimately, the author believes that while caring for parents is important, it should remain a personal choice rather than a legal requirement.

There is that idea of younger people should be legally responsible of taking care of their older family

members who can no longer look after themselves physically, mentally and financially. In my opinion,
I disagree with this view and in this essay I’m going to talk about the reasons to that opinion.
On the one hand, it is ethically true that you should take care of the elder ones. This is because they
were the one to raise you and also one of the many that help build our society today. Another reason for
this is that it create meaningful memories between you and your parents. For example, when your
parents are ill, you will take care of them and it help you create the memories like when they look after
you and they might make a connection with when they are little.
On the other hand, while it is undeniably true that you should take care of your parents because of
moral reasons, that does not mean that it should be a law. It should be a thing you should do, not force
to do because taking care of human life is not just an individual problem but also a society problem that
is the reason why there are elderly care home. Furthermore, although looking after your parents create
meaningful memories but with family that have a complex relationship it is a whole different story. For
example, in the case of Doublelift, a retired professional gamer who have to leave his family to follow
his dream, how can he possibly come back to his family in that case.
In conclusion, there are different views upon whether it is legally responsible for taking care of the
elder there are reason to defend this view but in my opinion although you should be responsible of
looking after your parents it does not mean that it should be a legislation.
