Nick and his dad.
Nick Johnson is 34 and a successful author. He writes suspense novels and his
most recent book is The Dark Forest. Here he tells us about the influence of his father.
My father certainly inspired me to be a writer. He loves reading and he always read to
me when I was a child—all kinds of books, newspapers, poems, everything. I think that’s
why I love reading so much now. My father invented stories for me and my brother when
we were young, and sometimes he wrote them so he didn’t forget. I keep them in my
office now and I still read them.
I wrote my first story when I was nine, but really I copied it from one of my father’s. My
teacher at school didn’t know that and she gave me a good grade! Of course, I write stories
now and publish them. Unfortunately my father never published his. I think I’m going to
publish them for him one day, before he dies. He’s over 70 now, so I need to do it soon!
Physically we are a little different. We are both tall, but I’m a little taller than he is.
He has dark hair but mine is fair, like my mother’s. He was very athletic and really
strong when he was younger, he played a lot of sports, but I am not athletic at all.
Similarities Differences
