Statement of Purpose
Since I was a child, I have had the desire to work in the medical field. There are
many ways to get involved in the healthcare system. When I was 8, my grandfather was
suffering from a spinal cord injury. He was treated daily by a physical therapist at our
home. Unfortunately, we couldn’t save him and he passed away. One thing I still recall
about that therapist is that he frequently discussed additional cases like this, which I
thought was really intriguing. My interest was piqued by the fact that it involved the
study of treating patients without using medications, assisting them to return to their
everyday routines, and giving their lives new purposes. Finding out what career I wanted
in health care required considerable thinking and reflection and it led me to choose a
profession: Physiotherapist.
I completed my Secondary School Certificate (SSC) with an aggregate of 86.40%.
In addition to academics, I have always been a sports enthusiast and I actively
participated in school sporting events. For my Higher Secondary Education (HSC) I had a
choice of three career streams: Science, Commerce, and Arts. I had a strong preference
for learning science during my schooling years. I chose the Science stream which brought
me one step closer to my goal of becoming an excellent Physiotherapist. I started
preparing for my medical entrance exam after earning a good score in the HSC in order to
enter the field of Physiotherapy.
After securing a good score in the medical entrance exam, I got accepted to the
esteemed university for a Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy program at Krishna College of
Physiotherapy, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad. I eased into academic life
after stepping out of a protective home. I was elated to be on the route to realizing my
ambition as I made friends easily and adapted to dorm life. The supportive environment
and professional setting in my institution have consistently motivated me to strive for
personal improvement. My early exposure to clinical settings and placements in several
departments sparked even more interest in the future I chose. My curiosity was piqued by
listening to case discussions, and participating in seminars and various competitions with
my batchmates like model making and scientific poster making. My team won first prize
in a concept model competition showing Axes and Planes in the human body. We put
forward the idea of a model presenting an invention and submitted a patent: A manikin
device for demonstrating the movements in human body.
During my second year, I balanced my academic work with the responsibility of
planning several events and contests. I was concerned about my ability to manage and
accomplish everything. These experiences have helped me understand the value of
accountability, teamwork, and perseverance. My inner leader was fostered by the duties
and helped me develop leadership skills. I gained knowledge of delegating techniques
and an art of getting things done. I have three literary papers published during my final
year and internship period. One of my research projects included water-based exercises
and hydrotherapy.
I studied various modules during those four and half years including Human
Anatomy and Physiology, Pathology, Fundamentals of Exercise Therapy and
Electrotherapy, Pharmacology, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Neuro-Physiotherapy,
Cardiovascular and Respiratory Physiotherapy and also Community Rehabilitation. I had
several opportunities to help the underprivileged community as my Physiotherapy
College was in a rural area. I was able to obtain a broad understanding of the
Physiotherapy field. During my clinical rotations, I was introduced to the various
departments. Due to the high volume of patients in the outpatient and inpatient
departments, I acquired practical experience that aided in honing my clinical evaluation
abilities. Since it covered every part of physical therapy, from early diagnosis to give
appropriate care, this is the area that allowed me to connect with my patients. It enhanced
my clinical practice understanding and increased my self-assurance as a physical
therapist.
Taking my learning forward, I'm currently working as an assistant physiotherapist
at a local physiotherapy clinic where I've been striving to improve my clinical abilities.
Attending several workshops allowed me to gather knowledge about the most recent
advancements in various topics. I attended workshops on Osteopathic and Chiropractic
Methods, Dry Needling, and many more. This transformed my perspective on the scope
of this dynamic sector and created a new point of view. My long-term goal is to acquire
significant practical experience and launch a prestigious physical rehabilitation facility
where individuals with a variety of age- or trauma-related musculoskeletal issues would
come for treatment.
I have chosen to prepare myself to pursue a Master’s Degree in the United
Kingdom as I believe that this will help me prepare for the long haul since the country is
renowned for having some of the top Universities offering programs in Sports
Physiotherapy. I wish to study at Loughborough University as it is one of the top-tier
universities in the country. It offers a great environment for pursuing the MSc
Musculoskeletal Sport Science and Health program since it has top-notch teaching
faculty and research facilities combined to present the greatest theoretical and practical
course material. My bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy has provided me with a
foundational understanding of the field of Physiotherapy, but this program is my
opportunity to expand my horizon and advance my study to achieve the competency
which I need to attain my goals.
The choice to select optional modules that suit my requirements and interests is
ideal. The optional module choices give a range of specializations that can improve my
abilities, critical thinking, and employability. This curriculum will aid in my transition to
a clinical specialist. Given the expanding sports sector, choosing to pursue a profession in
Sports Physiotherapy is not only my ambition but also a rewarding work field for me. It
will be an honor for me to study at one of the best universities. I am confident that, I can
live up to the challenging academic life at your University with my passion and
commitment, and I truly believe that I can make an impactful contribution to the
program. I can say that I am capable of conducting myself professionally. I hope the
admissions panel is seized by my enthusiasm and issues a favorable response to my
application.
