NOTE1: At 80MHz and 800MHz, the higher frequency range applies.
NOTE2: These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by
absorption from structures, objects and people.

a) Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and
land mobile radios, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast cannot be predicted
theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed transmitters, an
electromagnetic site survey should be considered. IF the measured field strength in the local in which the
EM19TFTI/MCIIL-C1 is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the EM19TFTI/MCIIL-C1 should
be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be
necessary, such as re- orienting or relocating the EM19TFTI/MCIIL-C1.

surface, do not scrub or scratch with rough, pointed and sharp objects (pencils, pens, rulers etc.) in order to avoid
irreversible damage to the screen (blemishes, stuck pixels, lines drawn on the surface by scratches). Refer to para.
7 – Maintenance for cleaning.

WARNING:

Image persistence: LCD picture screen technology has removed a tipical problem of CRT displays called “burn-in”: a
particular image continuously displayed led to a permanent imprint of it on the phosphour screen. The LCD
technology does not emit light, but filters it by means of pixel-sized polarising filters driven by the image information.
There is however a persistence stimulation when a still image is continuously displayed, which causes the
memorizing of a phantom image in the liquid-crystal matrix. This effect is reversible, but it is necessary to display a
totally black image for at least the same time the previous still image causing the persistence was applied.

In order to prevent from image persistence:

- avoid displaying any fixed image for more than 1 hour;

- display moving or frequently changing images;

- provide and activate a screen-saver feature (can be included in an application SW).

- provide and activate an orbiting feature (can be included in an application SW).

WARNING:

Sight fatigue: extended use of display should be avoided!

Sight fatigue may bring to eye affections and other physical effects.

It is recommended to apply such preventing actions as:

- interrupting watching of display system every 2 hours with at least 15 minutes pause;

- ambient lighting adaptation to the best and comfortable picture watching; this MD is provided with an
Automatic Light Compensation which adapts brightness to the ambient light. Brightness control on the rear
allows a manual adjustment;

- avoiding reflections from windows, direct sunlight or spot lights in the room;

- placing the screen at about 2 ft. / 60 cm from eyes; closer watching causes more fatigue;

- using ergonomic and correctly adjusted stools and desks in order maintain head , neck and back conveniently
aligned.

5.2.4 Composite Video coaxial connector COMP

The BNC input COMP is suitable to connect monochrome composite video signals. This input shall be
selected in the INPUT submenu in OSD (see para. 6.2). For best results the coaxial cable should not exceed
5m length, in order to avoid signal drops and noise. This connection is equivalent to three channel analogue
video, because the signal is internally transferred to the three input channels. For simple point-to-point
connection from host (video source) keep the dummy load plugged as in the picture below.

ATTENTION: the coaxial inputs are compatible with CCIR B/W signals; colour - encoded signals
such as CCIR-PAL or NTSC are not decoded and will result in B/W noisy pictures, due to presence
of chroma subcarrier in the signal.
To avoid this :
– employ only the luminance signal from a Y-C (Chroma-Luma) signal;
– add a colour carrier suppression filter .
– disable chroma encoding in the source if possible.

5.2.5 Loop-through connection (Daisy-chain)

Second BNC connector is available for loop- through (daisy chain)connection of more units to the same video signal.
This can be accomplished by simply disconnecting the Dummy Load on the second BNC connector and by
connecting another monitor via COAX video cable to it. The last monitor of this chain shall have the Dummy load
plugged on its second BNC connector as in the connection drawing below.

6. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

6.1 Commands and indicators

The appliance is provided with a system of on-screen pop-up menu windows (OSD)
for set-up and adjustment of all the monitor functions. A Power-On key (soft switch)
and five Command keys [MENU], [▲], [▼] , [+] and [–] on the side permit the control
of these adjustments.
After about 10 seconds of inactivity, the OSD disappears automatically and the
last changes not yet confirmed by pressing the [MENU] key will be discarded.
Included in the keyboard a lamp indicator is also present, which can emit different
colours with the following meaning:
- No light : no power supply (the monitor is disconnected from mains voltage)
- Green light : normal operation.
- Yellow light : "suspend" condition (the monitor is off)

The Power-On key (soft switch) is able to suspend or restart monitor operation,
anyway the monitor will start up when power is connected (or applied to from the
vision system to which it is connected).
At power-up the indicator will be yellow for a while, then it will become green as
the internal start-up/auto-test procedure has been successfully accomplished.
For further information see chapter 7 - Service

6.6 PICTURE Submenu

The Picture submenu gives access to the following settings:

- Brightness (Black threshold)

- Contrast (White threshold)
- Backlight Lamp drive level (backlight brightness)
- Gamma CRT/DICOM at 9300°K and CRT/DICOM at 6500°K
- Sharpness (Antialias)
- Image restore Resets to Brightness/Contrast defaults (50%.)

Select the item You wish to change by means of the [▲], [▼] keys and adjust the item
selected with [+] e [−], press [MENU] to confirm and go back to main menu ; select EXIT to
switch OSD off; Anyway the OSD windows will disappear after 10 seconds from last key
operation; new adjustments are saved (or whichever time is selected in the OSD settings).

6.6.1 Brightness, contrast and Backlight

In the following pictures the effects of Brightness (Fig. 1), Contrast (Fig. 2) and
Backlight (Fig. 3) are shown as they affect the rendering of the video signal; whose
grey-scale discrete levels span from 0 to 255.

A brightness adjustment sums or subtracts a fixed value “n” to each grey-scale level
(fig. 1), a contrast adjustment instead multiplies each level by a coefficient “k” greater
or smaller than 1(fig. 2); both variations are limited by start and end values of the grey-
scale 0 and 255, therefore if brightness is increased by 10 steps, effective grey levels
will span from 10th to 255th (and not to 265th), if it is decreased by 10 steps, effective
grey levels will span from 0th to 245th ; as visible result: in the first case the picture will
become lighter but the lightest greys will turn into white, in the second case the
picture will become darker but the darkest greys will turn into black,

The same principle can be applied also to contrast: if the coefficient “k” > 1 (increasing
contrast), the lightest greys will turn into white because they will exceed the limit (255)
and effective grey-scale will be compressed proportionally by a factor 1/k, viceversa if
the coefficient “k” < 1 (decreasing contrast), there will be no clipping of darkest greys,
but the effective grey-scale will be compressed proportionally by a factor 1/k too.

MAN_EM19TFTI-MCIIL-C1-EN rev. 01 Page 24 of 36

The Backlight acts like the old contrast control of CRT's: the entire greyscale of 255
levels is not affected and the maximum brightness is proportional to the backlight
drive. But this brilliance can vary with time and ageing, for this reason a light
stabilisation system has been added, in order to fix a reference brightness, necessary
to the correct viewing with calibrated gamma curves, such as DICOM.

6.6.2Gamma curve DICOM

This monitor provides a suitable gamma correction curve to assure the accurate
reproduction of the grey levels in radiographic picture viewing. This is defined as DICOM
and is preset by default.

Attention: for correct vision of radiographic pictures the DICOM gamma correction shall
be set as shown below. Do not change this setting.

LANGUAGE Gamma DICOM9300

SCALING Colour Standard

SETTINGS Sharpness 50 ---------------♦--------------

EXIT Image Restore

VGA 1280 x 1024/75 Hz Scan mode 61

The DICOM curve is appropriate for the accurate rendering of grey-tones in medical
imaging: its gamma compensation is variable and takes into account the physiological
perception of grey level differences by a typical human observer.
Its calibration is referred to the peak brightness up to 450 nit, in order to deliver the best
recognition of each grey tone and the proportional perception of the entire grey-scale.
NOTE: The light stabilisation STABILIGHT shall be active to guarantee the reference
brightness level. Do NOT activate ALC.

Also a CRT gamma curve (gamma exponent = 2) to emulate old CRT picture tubes is
available.

6.6.3 Colour

This item allows white balance adjustment other than the preadjusted white points selected
by gamma curve or DICOM curve.
In order to adjust the white hue, first of all select the gamma “CRT6500” in Gamma
submenu, then select the colour “user” in this submenu with the [+] key; adjust one or two
colours only by means of the available “cursors” Red, Green and Blue, at the end press
[MENU] to confirm and to go back.

MAN_EM19TFTI-MCIIL-C1-EN rev. 01 Page 25 of 36

TIPS AND NOTES: maximum brightness depends on the attenuation percentage of each colour; adjust one or
two colour only to weaken the complementary colour to the desired white tint and minimize brightness
reduction: if all three colours are tampered, an unnecessary brightness reduction will occur too.
For example, to get a cooler (blueish) tint, reduce the Red level about to 85%, then adjust the Green level just
to get a correct grey hue (not too greenish, not too purple); viceversa to get a warmer (reddish) tint, reduce
the Blue level about to 70%, then adjust the Green level as just above explained.
THE DICOM CURVE IS NOT COMPENSATED FOR USER-COLOUR ADJUSTMENT .

6.6.3 Sharpness

This interpolation filter is effective during scaling and does affect native displaying by slight
changing of the optical bandwidth; smoother effect is more useful with photographic
images, sharper effect is recommended for text and graphics without halftones.

6.6.4 Image Restore

By selecting this item and pushing the [+] key twice, the Brightness and Contrast controls
are reset to 50%.

6.7 GEOMETRY Submenu

The Geometry submenu gives access to the following settings:

- Horizontal position (Horizontal centring)

- Vertical position (Vertical centring)
- Phase Useful for noise or moiré suppression on text pages
- Amplitude (line fit; the value is in total pixels)
- Autoadjust The above parameters are automatically adjusted.
- Format Full screen/Native/Keep form factor/User select.

6.7.1 Phase

If auto-adjustment did not correctly tune this parameter, a text page in native mode could
contain slight noise or moiré effect. A manual tuning can minimize this problem.

6.7.2 Amplitude

If auto-adjustment did not correctly tune this parameter, the picture may not fit screen
width or generate moiré effect, due to a slight difference between pixels received and pixels
sampled; correct the parameter as necessary to fit the screen.
Amplitude adjustment affects also horizontal position.

MAN_EM19TFTI-MCIIL-C1-EN rev. 01 Page 26 of 36

6.7.3 Format

Four modes are available:

- Full screen : picture formats other than native (1280x1024pixel) are stretched to fit
the whole screen; visible definition depends on scaling ratio. The antialias filter
(Sharpness) can help to smoothen or sharpen the image according to the kind of
pictures displayed (text or photo).
- Native, picture formats are displayed at their real pixel size, without affecting their
definition and sharpness, i.e. a 640x480pixel picture will be displayed proportionally
smaller than full screen at the centre, with a dark border to fulfil the screen area. This
mode can be useful to maintein the highest definition also with low resolution pictures.
NOTE: “native” definition refers to a picture with the same pixel number and shape of
the display panel (i.e. 1280x1024 pixels) .
- Maintain Aspect Ratio : picture formats other than native are enlarged until their size
can fit the screen without changing their form factor (ratio between width and height),
effective definition depends on scale factor used to fit the picture. The antialias filter
(Sharpness) can help to smoothen or sharpen the image according to the kind of
pictures displayed (text or photo).
- User select : each format can be adjusted horizontally and vertically and re-centered to
enlarge or to reduce the image. Enlargement factor is selectable between 0.5x and 2x.
(discrete value range from 128 to 512 units, 1:1 ratio equals 256 units).

6.7.4 Auto-adjust

By selecting this item, the monitor automatically seeks the picture borders and adapts the
geometry parameters for the best result.
NOTE: It is strongly recommended to display a white page or at least a page with a 2 pixel
clear border during auto-adjust procedure, as the monitor recognises the borders better.
With black background pages the autoadjustmet routine cannot find the active portion
limits of the scanning page (i.e. the picture borders ).

6.8 LANGUAGE Submenu

This submenu allows the user to select a language for OSD messages among English,
French, German, Italian and Russian. Select the new language by means of the [▲], [▼]
keys and press [MENU] to confirm and go back to main menu ; select EXIT to switch OSD
off; Anyway the OSD windows will disappear after 10 seconds from last key operation; new
adjustments are saved (or whichever time is selected in the OSD settings).

6.9 SCALING Submenu

MAN_EM19TFTI-MCIIL-C1-EN rev. 01 Page 27 of 36

This submenu allows the user to set non-standard timings, provided that scan frequencies
fall into the specification limits of this appliance (refer to para. 3.1), to adjust a standard
timing in order to change horizontal sampling (to increase sharpness with low definition
analogue sources, such as video cameras) or aspect ratio other than 5:4 (for instance to
adjust for a 1:1 endoscopic picture timing). Adjustments are possible after selecting one of
the five User Memory locations and after saving the original timing table in it.

The timing selected will be reset to standard parameters (in internal default table).
NOTE: every standard timing recognised by the monitor can be edited and saved as a user
mode ; no more than 5 user modes can be saved; User modes are recognised first.
To avoid uncertainty when monitor recognises two different scan modes, take into account
that two unique timings have to differ at least by
- 1 Khz horizontal frequency and/or 1 Hz Vertical Frequency.
- sync polarity (VGA input)
otherwise the monitor recognises the same mode for both timings.

TIPS for user adjustments:

- If You wish to increase the sharpness of a low definition timing:

set H Resolution to 1280 pixel

adjust H Total until the whole line is visible, adjust also H Position to keep the picture
centered.

- If You wish to resize the aspect ratio (i.e. 1:1 pictures):

set H Resolution to 1280 pixel
adjust H Total in order to reduce the active horizontal size down to effective value
adjust H Position to re-center the picture.

- If You encounter a limit during H Resolution, H Total and H position:

consider that H Total is the pixel number of the whole scan line, including Sync portion and
Blank; it is not allowed to start the Active portion (H Resolution segment) into the Sync
portion or to end the active portion past the end of scan line (due to excessive H Position
value).

6.10 SETTINGS Submenù

In this submenu the following settings are available :

- OSD H Position. horizontal centring of OSD windows on the picture

- OSD V Position. vertical centring of OSD windows on the picture
- OSD Timeout time after which the OSD disappears
- Factory defaults reset to factory settings
- Keylock menu only if enabled, direct brightness and contrast controls are

6.10.1 Factory defaults

This command restores the factory settings; every adjustment made by the user is
cancelled. This does not affect Greyscale calibration; the last of which is retained.

6.10.2 StabiLight

NOTE: for radiographic purposes do NOT disable STABILIGHT. This feature is necessary to
achieve the accurate greyscale rendering of DICOM gamma compensation.

The backlight stabilisation guarantees fixed 800nit white level independently from lamps
ageing or temperature drift: this is the reference parameter for DICOM curve correct
rendering. The DICOM curve is valid only if STABILIGHT is enabled.

6.11 Current format information

At the bottom of every OSD window a set of information data is shown:

Current format definition should match the video output definition of the vision system; if
current format has been redefined as user format (Scan Mode number from 69 to 73),
the actual definition may differ because of sampling rate redefining in SCALING Submenu
for this timing.

Refresh rate is useful only to recognise which timing has been applied to the monitor from
the video signal source (video system), since the LCD display panel works at its own refresh
rate. The characteristic flicker effect of old tube monitors is not present in LCD displays
thank this technology.

Scan Mode number is an internal index code assigned to internal timing presets; a Scan
Mode “0” means “not recognised timing”. Scan Modes from 69 to 73 are user modes set
in the SCALING submenu.
