Objective: Determine the meaning of idiomatic expressions by noting context clues and collocations.

Code: EN8V-Ia-10.2

Grade Level: Grade 8

Subject: English

1. Review: Ask the students if they have encountered idiomatic expressions before. Define idiomatic
expressions and give examples.

2. Motivation: Play a game of charades where the students act out an idiomatic expression and the class
guesses the meaning.

3. Activity: Divide the class into groups and give each group a different idiomatic expression. Instruct
them to create a skit that uses the expression in context. Have each group perform their skit and the
class will guess the meaning of the expression.

4. Analysis: Discuss the context clues and collocations used in the skits. Ask the students to identify the
words that helped them understand the meaning of the idiomatic expressions.

5. Abstraction: Instruct the students to create their own idiomatic expressions and use them in a
sentence. Have the class guess the meaning of each expression.

6. Application: Give the students a real-life scenario where they have to use an idiomatic expression in
context. For example, they have to write a dialogue between two characters where one character uses
an idiomatic expression to convey their feelings.
