3. Excellence

IMPORTANT: The allowed font type is “Calibri” with the minimum font size 11 points, the
paragraph spacing 6pt and single line spacing. The page size is A4, and all margins (top, bottom,
left and right) must be at least 15 mm (not including any footers or headers). Proposals that do
not comply with these requirements will be excluded from evaluation as non-eligible.
The total length of the entire proposal, including the tables on Costs justification and funding
(paragraph 6), must not be more than 10 pages. Page count starts from Section 3. Proposal
description. Removing explanatory text in the proposal template, located below the paragraph
sub-titles is allowed. External evaluators are instructed to dismiss the pages after the 10th page
(starting from Section 3) from the evaluation.

Describe the business challenge and business potential. Demonstrate how the proposed solution will
support targeted population and local communities.
Special attention should be paid to the following elements:
 Business model: describe which business model(s) is proposed and what are the financial
projections for the next 3 years;
 Describe how the project will develop the value proposition and KPIs. A first glance of these
issues should be included in the proposal.
 Substantiate your business model by relating it to a general business model, for example the
Business Model Canvas (BMC). Visit www.BusinessModelGeneration.com and
www.BusinessModelGeneration.com/book to learn more.
 Scalability: describe how the proposed business case will be able to scale in the European and
international markets; formulate a few important KPIs, with which the business impact can be
measured.
 Business innovation: clearly describe the innovative elements of the product and its business
model.

4.2. Sustainability and socio-economic impact


Describe the environmental, socio-economic and other sustainability impacts of your proposed
solution in the agri-food sector. Formulating a few important KPIs woukld be beneficial, but defining
at least ONE indicator that can be assessed to measure the impact is mandatory.

4.3. Financial impact


Describe any relevant implication and support from public or private entities. Explain additional
financial support you received from public or private resources for the development of this solution,
and your approach to further fundraising in the future.

4.4. Impact on urban and peri-urban food systems across Africa


Describe how your solution could be used in urban and peri-urban food systems in your
region/country and beyond. How will this solution help in other/similar systems across Africa?

4.5. Multi-actors’ involvement


Describe to what extent the different actors of the agri-food chain/end-users are involved in the
proposed LIH.

If you wish to support your application with additional video material, please provide a valid YouTube
or Vimeo link, (public or unlisted) without restrictions for viewing, not longer than 5 minutes.
Evaluators may choose not to take this optional video material into account during evaluation and

5. Implementation
5.1. Work plan and activities

Draft the workplan and key activities of the proposed solution including a clear timeline. This
workplan should address 3 key phases of implementation plan.

Please add a timeline or Gantt chart to illustrate the proposed work plan.

5.2. Team
Please present your team members that will be directly involved in the implementation of your sub-
project and provide information on their education, experience, skills and track record, plus the
technical capacity to develop/enhance the solution. Explain briefly the main competences and
experience of each partner in the consortium and how they are relevant for the delivery of the
proposed solution. Keep in mind team’s respect for gender balance.

5.3. Expected results and deliverables


Describe the key expected results and deliverables that the proposal will achieve and deliver. Propose
SMART indicators (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound), where appropriate,
to make the main objectives and expected results measurable.

Please keep in mind that there are already 3 mandatory deliverables, summarizing each of the phase
of the implementation and are tied with the payment. However, you can add additional deliverable
in each of the implementation phase if you wish.

6. Replicability and reusability of the solution


Describe how your solution could be reused/adapted by other users and Living Labs in other
conditions and/or other crops/food systems. Would minor or major changes be necessary?

8. Ethics self-assessment

8.1. Ethics
If you have entered any ethics issues in the Ethics/Security checklist, you must:
● Submit an ethics self-assessment, which:
o Provides a rationale for the option made.
o Describes how the proposal meets the national legal and ethical requirements of the
country or countries where the tasks raising ethical issues are to be carried out.
o Explains in detail how you intend to address the issues in the ethical issues table, as
regards:
▪ Research objectives (e.g., study of vulnerable populations, dual use, etc.).
▪ Research methodology (e.g., clinical trials, involvement of children and
related consent procedures, protection of any data collected, etc.).
▪ The potential impact of the research (e.g., dual use issues, environmental
damage, stigmatisation of particular social groups, political or financial
retaliation, benefit-sharing, malevolent use, etc.).
● Provide the documents that you need under national law (if you already have them), e.g.:
o An ethics committee opinion.
o The document notifying activities raising ethical issues or authorising such activities.
If these documents are not in English, you must also submit an English summary of them
(containing, if available, the conclusions of the committee or authority concerned).
If you plan to request these documents specifically for the project you are proposing, your
request must contain an explicit reference to the project title.
