CREATING VALUE
Artists commonly create value scales to help them
practice making a full range of values.
Value scales are arranged from lightest to darkest. To
create a value scale with a pencil, you need to
control the amount of pressure you use.
This value scale has 8 steps.

Value can be used to make objects look more
three-dimensional. Notice how the use of
highlights (tints) and shadows (shades) can
make this circle look like a sphere?

CREATING VALUE
Value can also be created by using techniques
other than shading, like stippling, hatching, and
cross-hatching.
