Food SME Lite Insight

1. Background:

The Food Innovation and Resource Centre (FIRC) was launched in 2007 as a joint initiative
between Singapore Polytechnic and Enterprise Singapore (previously SPRING Singapore). It
is established to provide food enterprises with technical expertise in new product and
process development including packaging, shelf life evaluation, market testing and
automation.

The food production process requires multiple machines. A production has different stages
where different machines are required. The machines cannot be used concurrently, hence
scheduling is the key to increasing utilisation and improve productivity.

2. Proposed System:

Food SME Lite had developed input devices for supervisors to key in the utilisation period of
the machines where the information will be synchronised to the cloud database. The
information captured includes the machines active period, the stage of production the
machine was involved and for which process.

The Project is to develop a responsive web application to access the data captured and
provide insightful information of machines usage on dashboards to help improve scheduling
decisions thus improving machine utilisation. This could close the gap between current
production status and planning production.
