4. The velocity of a particle after 𝑡 seconds is; 12𝑡2𝒊 + (8𝑡 + 23)𝒋 𝑚𝑠-1 .
Calculate the average speed of particle in the time interval

5. Given that 𝑥 = 1.25 (2𝑑𝑝𝑠); 𝑦 = 1.600(3 𝑑𝑝𝑠), calculate the interval
within which the exact value of 𝑥𝑦 lies. Deduce the maximum error
in 𝑥𝑦. (05 marks)

7. A body of mass 2kg and velocity ( 5i +7j )ms-1 collides with another
body of mass 3kg and velocity ( 2i – 3j)ms-1 . If the bodies coalesce
after impact,
Find;
i) their speed after impact.
ii) The loss in kinetic energy. (5 marks)
8. Points A, B and C lie on a straight road such that AB = 500m and
BC =600m .A car travelling along the road takes 20 seconds and 35
seconds travel distances AB and BC respectively. Determine;
i) the initial velocity and retardation.
ii) the distance it covers before coming to rest. (5 marks)

10. A particle A initially at the point with position vector (2i 5j k)
km is moving with a constant velocity of (𝑖 + 3𝑗 + 4𝑘)kmh-1 . At the
same instant, a particle B at the point 3, 3, 2 is moving with a
constant velocity of (3𝑖 − 2𝑘) kmh-1.
Find the:
(i) relative velocity of particle A to B.
(ii) relative displacement of particle A to particle B at any instant.
(iii) shortest distance between the two particles in their subsequent
motion.

13. ABCD is a square of side 2m. Forces of magnitudes 3N, 5N, 7N

(i) magnitude of the resultant of the forces and the angle made by the
resultant with AD.
(ii) sum of the moments of the forces about A
(iii) equation of the line of action of the resultant.
14. A random sample of size 120 is taken from a normally distributed
population with mean 16.5 and variance 18. Determine the 96%
confidence internal for the population mean. (6 marks)
b) On a highway, the speed of buses follows a normal distribution. It
was observed by traffic police that 20% of buses travelled at a speed
less than 100kmh-1 and 68% of the buses have speed between
100kmh-1 and 110kmh-1. Find the mean and standard deviation. (6 marks)
