Dryers
A dryer is a household appliance used to remove moisture from clothing,
towels, and other textiles after they have been washed. Dryers speed up the
drying process compared to air drying and are especially useful in regions or
seasons where drying outdoors isn't practical.
Uses of a Dryer :
Drying clothes: Removes moisture to make clothes ready to wear or store.
Softening fabrics: Some dryers have fabric softening features.
Wrinkle reduction: Many dryers include settings to reduce wrinkles using
steam or specific cycles.
Sanitizing: Certain high-temperature settings sanitize clothes by killing
bacteria and allergens.
Components of a Dryer :
Dryers can vary slightly based on type (electric, gas, vented, ventless, etc.),
but here are the key components:
Drum: A rotating cylindrical chamber where clothes are placed. It spins to
allow hot air to circulate evenly.
Heating Element:
In electric dryers, an electric coil generates heat.
In gas dryers, a gas burner provides heat.
Blower or Fan: Circulates hot air inside the drum.
Motor: Powers the drum rotation and the blower.
Lint Trap/Filter: Catches lint and debris from the clothes to prevent it from
clogging the system.
Thermostat: Monitors and regulates the temperature inside the dryer to
prevent overheating.
Control Panel: Allows the user to set drying cycles, temperatures, and
special options.

Moisture Sensor (optional): Detects the remaining moisture in clothes
and adjusts the drying time automatically.
Exhaust Vent (for vented dryers): Removes moisture filled air from the
dryer to the outside.
Condensation Unit (for ventless dryers): Collects and condensed
moisture into water, which is stored in a tank or drained.
How a Dryer Works :
Load Clothes: Wet laundry is placed into the drum.
Set the Cycle: The user selects the drying cycle (e.g., cotton, delicates,
heavy-duty).
Heating: Hot air is blown into the drum by the fan.
Drum Rotation: The drum rotates to tumble the clothes . Tumbling ensures
even exposure to hot air.
Evaporation: Heat evaporates the moisture from the clothes.
Temperature Regulation: The thermostat monitors heat levels to maintain
the optimal drying temperature.
Cycle Completion: When the selected time is over or the moisture sensor
indicates the clothes are dry, the cycle ends.
Cool Down (optional): Some dryers have a cool-down phase to reduce
wrinkles and prevent overheating.
