Why Physical Education Should Be a Compulsory Subject in Schools
Physical Education (PE) should be a compulsory subject in schools because it plays a vital role
in the overall development of students. Many people tend to overlook the importance of
physical health in comparison to academic performance. However, regular physical activity
contributes to better health, improved focus, and the development of important life skills.
The most obvious benefit of Physical Education is improved physical health. In today's digital
age, children spend a lot of time sitting in front of screens. This sedentary lifestyle can lead to
obesity, heart disease, and other health issues at a young age. PE classes encourage students to
be active, which improves cardiovascular fitness, strengthens muscles and bones, and helps
maintain a healthy weight.
Many studies show that students who participate in regular physical activity perform better
academically. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain, which improves concentration and
memory. PE classes also serve as a break from routine classroom learning, helping students
return to their studies with renewed energy and focus.
Physical Education is not just about exercise; it also teaches students important social and
emotional skills. Through team sports and group activities, students learn cooperation,
leadership, discipline, and how to deal with both success and failure. These skills are essential
for personal and professional life in the future.
Making PE compulsory helps students develop healthy habits early in life. When children are
taught the value of physical activity, they are more likely to carry those habits into adulthood.
This reduces the risk of lifestyle-related diseases and leads to a more productive and balanced
life.
In conclusion, Physical Education should be a mandatory subject in all schools. It benefits
students in multiple ways—physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Rather than seeing
it as a break from learning, schools should view PE as a core part of the educational experience
that contributes to the holistic growth of each student.

Students Should Limit Their Use of Social Media
In this digital era, social media has become an essential part of many students’ lives. Platforms
like Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp allow students to connect, share, and stay updated.
However, excessive use of social media can bring more harm than good. Students should start
limiting their social media usage to avoid its negative effects on their academic performance,
mental health, and social skills.
It Distracts from Academic Responsibilities. One of the biggest drawbacks of social media is
that it often distracts students from their schoolwork. Instead of studying or completing
homework, many students spend hours scrolling through their feeds or watching videos. As a
result, their grades drop, and they fail to focus during class. The constant notifications and urge
to check updates also make it difficult to concentrate on important tasks.
It Affects Mental Health. Several studies show that too much time on social media can
negatively affect students’ mental health. Seeing other people's highlight reels can lead to
feelings of insecurity, anxiety, and depression. Students often compare themselves to
influencers or peers, which can lower their self-esteem. In addition, cyberbullying is a growing
issue that can harm young users emotionally and psychologically.
It Reduces Real Social Interaction. Although social media is designed to connect people, it
sometimes does the opposite. Many students now prefer chatting online rather than having real
conversations. As a result, their communication skills weaken, and they may struggle to interact
confidently in real-life situations. Face-to-face interaction is essential for developing empathy,
listening skills, and emotional intelligence.
Therefore, it is highly recommended that students limit their time on social media. They should
create a schedule to balance online and offline activities and use social media mindfully.
Parents and teachers can also play a role by educating students about the responsible use of
technology. By managing their screen time wisely, students can focus better on their studies,
build stronger relationships, and maintain a healthier mental state.
