Sy Incident Report Sept 19’ 2024 New Bldg N4
To whom may it concern,
On September 19, 2024 at around 7PM -8PM, An incident occurred at the New Building
elevator and N4 floor where I was threatened with physical assault and murder by a hospital guest, a
relative of patient BILAN, Alicia 91/F room 2416 at N4, New Building.
At around 7PM, after participating in two ACLS events at the old building and heart station, I
was on my way back to my work station. I proceeded to the elevator of the New Building. While inside
the New Building Elevator, I was accosted by a male individual, approximately six feet tall and around
fifty years of age. This individual read my name tag and asked for my name. Upon confirming my
identity, the man immediately began a hostile, slanderous tirade directed at me in the presence of
hospital staff and guests. He proceeded to publicly accuse me of being "the son of a bitch doctor who
tortured his 91-year-old mother," while continuing to hurl vile, defamatory, and slanderous insults. His
tone quickly escalated to threats of physical violence.
Despite the inflammatory nature of his statements, I maintained composure and refrained
from responding in kind. I politely reminded him that hospital protocol prohibits me from engaging in
such confrontations and that I would need to defer to my senior colleagues if he wished to continue
his accusations. The aggressor, however, was undeterred and persisted in his tirade as the elevator
arrived on the N4 floor—my designated work station. He exited the elevator alongside me and
continued his public verbal assault, further escalating his behavior. He threatened me with physical
harm, provocatively stating "Let's go" and insisting that he could "take me on." He explicitly threatened
my life, declaring that he intended to "bring me to his place and put an end to [my] life."
These events unfolded under the surveillance of the hospital's CCTV system, directly in front
of the elevator doors and the floor station, with multiple doctors and nurses witnessing the incident.
The charge nurse, visibly alarmed, contacted hospital security. During this time, the aggressor placed
a phone call to his consultant, Doctor Virgil Lo. As the aggressor continued his assault, I sought
direction from Dr. Lo, who advised me to distance myself from the situation. Following this advice, I
left the scene, yet the aggressor continued to berate me, calling me a "coward, idiot doctor, gay, gago
tarantado, and putang ina mo."
I retreated to the nurse's station to complete my work, still maintaining my composure and
refraining from engaging with the aggressor. Shortly thereafter, my senior resident, who had been
contacted by the head nurse, arrived and requested a detailed account of the incident and that was
the end of it.
I just want to make it clear that at no point during the incident, did I retaliate or escalate the situation.
When directly asked for a response by the aggressor, I respectfully declined to engage and
consistently referred to hospital protocol, requesting guidance from senior staff.
This prolonged, aggressive, and unprovoked verbal attack, which included defamatory
statements, slander, and direct threats of physical violence and murder, occurred in a public setting,
witnessed by hospital staff, and was recorded by hospital security systems. I sought to de-escalate
the situation at all times, adhering to hospital policies and professional conduct, while the aggressor's
behavior posed a clear danger to my safety and well-being, as well as the peace and order of the
hospital environment.
This incident has caused me significant psychological distress, manifesting in persistent
anxiety and a severe disruption to my well-being. Since the event, I have experienced ongoing sleep
disturbances, which have impaired my ability to function optimally in my professional duties. The
constant replay of the aggressor's threats and slanderous remarks has affected my focus and ability
to perform at work, leaving me in a state of heightened stress and emotional exhaustion even as I
while writing this report. These symptoms have interfered not only with my work performance but also
with my overall mental and emotional health, creating a profound and ongoing impact on my
well-being.
