Problem Statement: I have been noticing In many
urban settlements that people are unable to avoid the
underlying problem of CARBON EMISSIONS. This
problem has been affecting most of the population In
India Urban States - Such as Delhi, Bangalore, …etc…
And I want to add my perspective of developments Into
this problem, using the technology of carbon filters to
make a new smart material that can filter out carbon
from the air making C02 - 02.

My research:
From the research conducted, I concluded that
carbon filters are the size of a typical bottle, but they
are awkward to carry in public. People avoid doing so
as a result. resulting in a more serious lung infection.

Benefits of an air filter made of activated carbon
The advantages of installing an activated carbon filter
in your home are as follows:
Filters VOCs: Only certain filters, which stand for
volatile organic compounds, are capable of removing
VOCs. Both inside and outside of the house, VOCs are
produced. It can be caused by household cleansers,
paints, smog, air pollution, and other things.
Removes odor: Activated carbon filters have the
ability to capture scents as well as gaseous and liquid
particles. The odor-causing particles are too small for
the typical filters to pick up. However, the activated
carbon reacts with the odor particles, removing them
from the air as a result. This contributes to give you
cleaner air.
Activated carbon air filters have drawbacks.
Along with all its advantages, the carbon filter also
has some drawbacks. Several drawbacks of a carbon
air filter are listed below:
Ineffective particle filtration: Activated carbon filters
are made to catch tiny airborne particles, not larger
ones. Pollen, regular dust, and other contaminant
particles are not captured by them as well. Because of
this, using these filters in conjunction with a MERV-
rated filter is ideal. There are, however, certain
MERV-rated filters that also feature an activated
carbon coating. You won't need an additional filter if
you use these air filters.
Replace activated carbon air filters on a regular basis
since they lose effectiveness more quickly than other
filters.
Regular replacement is necessary because, in contrast
to other filters, activated carbon air filters lose
efficiency after each usage. Because of this, these
filters require routine replacement. Your activated
carbon air filter should be changed once every three
What is 3D Modeling?
Making three-dimensional representations of an object or a
surface is known as 3D modeling. Within computer-based 3D
modeling software, 3D models are created. I will be using this
method to create my product digitally, and manufacture it using a 3D
printer.
Materials Analyzation
Strengths Weaknesses

Develop a Design Brief
My Design Brief: according to my research, for a
product to be user friendly, you have to design a
portable, efficient and efficient product. I will help
people in modern cities with sensitivity to carbon
emissions. I will do this by creating a small, portable,
easy to use, state of the art carbon filter. According to
the interview I conducted, Carbon filters are usually the
size of an average bottle, but they look very weird to
carry around In public. Due to this, people avoid doing
so. Resulting in a more severe Infection to their lungs.
As an individual I want to create a MODERN influenced
Carbon filter to help people take out their fear of what
others think about their dangerous issues. (I will
promote this using a website)
Criterion B:
A Aesthetic My product will look
very modernized and
shall have elements
such as
complementary
colors using the RGB

Design Ideas:
Design Idea 1:
This design specifies on the various aspects I mentioned in the
design brief, simple, organic, and urban. As, aesthetics match
perfect comfort of the customer’s usability.
Design Idea 2:
Design Idea 2:
This design is a more simple and more straightforward structure of
the 1st design. The customer’s usability specified most in this
product as well.
Present the chosen design:
The above designs were primarily focused on the customer’s
usability and aesthetic pleasures. I had done a self-evaluation
following my design specifications and design brief. I chose the
first design as it looked more aesthetically pleasing and had
customer usability to its best. It is also very age and size friendly as
all types of customers can utilize the product to its max.
Develop Plannings, Drawings and Diagrams
Criterion C:
Procedure Tools Time
Step 1. 3D printer, Recycled Plastic, 4-5 days
● I will first develop my Filament
skills on how to
develop a 3D model
with a 3D printer.
Using Plastic and
Filament as my main
materials
Step 2. PC, Blender 2 days
● Next I shall make a
3D version of my
product in blender
and convert it to
a .stl file to use for
producing the model
with a 3D printer
Step 3. PC, laser printer, recycled 1 day
● After completing the wood, Plastic, Netting,
above two steps, I Gasket, End Cap, Outer
shall go to a store or Wrap
my school's design
lab to laser cut
my .stl file I made in
blender. Finally, I
shall also add
materials used in the
actual product
Step 4. Paint, Product, Paint 2 days
● Next, I shall paint my Brushes
newly made 3D
product with vibrant
colors and
complementary
shades to make my
product match my
design brief criterias.
Step 5. Paper, Recycled Plastic, 2 days
● I shall next create Paints/Brushes
placards as
mentioned in the
annotations. These
placards shall have
vibrant colored
aesthetics and shall
look very
urbanized/modern.
Demonstrate Technical Skills
STEP 1:
First, I created my online 3D model using blender which required modellation of the Product
using the Tool - Modelling, and created a modified cylindrical shape to my Product to add
extra detail to it.
STEP 2:
Next, I made my product a .svg file to make it ready to laser print, I had to print the parts
one by one as this is not like a 3D printer. I then printed my product’s parts using the school
Laser Printer.
STEP 3:
After that, I had my 3D products parts ready to go.
STEP 4:
I started painting my product as it was made of wood and that did not fit my product's
aesthetics.
STEP 5:
FInally I pasted a Un-Functional carbon fiber on top of my painted final product. I will make
my carbon fiber off of black chart paper with black marker pen crosshatch like designs.
Justify Changes made to the Design
I have made the following changes to my Design: I added only 2 placards to my design going
off into different directions, this made the product very spacious and made more
possibilities for me to work with it better.
Evaluating:
Design Testing Methods
I have used guerilla testing methods as it allows me to go to strangers in the public
and ask them for feedback towards my product.
It also allows me to receive more perspectives on improvements to my thinking and
product. Guerilla testing is very useful in my case
