1. GREETINGS/PRAYER

Good morning , class! Good morning, Ma’am.

Let us have our prayer first.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy
name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our sins as we
forgive those who sins against us, and lead us
All right, before you take your not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
seats, pick up some trashes and Amen.
arrange your chairs properly.

How are you today class?

We're fine Ma'am.
Okay, thank you class. Please be
seated.

Again, good morning class!

Good morning, Ma’am.

2. CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE

Let us check your attendance first.

When I call your name, kindly raise
your hand.
( Students will raise their hand after they are called)
3. SETTING OF CLASSROOM
STANDARDS

For now let’s talk about our classroom

rules for us to have a positive learning
environment.
Everybody kindly read our classroom
rules

Rule no.1 - Follow directions quickly.

Rule no.2 - Raise your hand for permission to
speak.
Rule no.3 - Respect your teacher and your
classmate.
Rule no.4 - Keep our class clean.
4.REVIEW Rule no.5 - Listen attaintively.
Diamond Rule - Keep your eyes on your work.
Let us have first a quick recap about
our topic last meeting.

So what have we discussed last

meeting, anyone from the class?

Ma’am we discussed about Standardized Test

Scoring, where in is it a process by which teacher
or researcher made tests are validated and item
Very Good! Seems like you’ve really analyzed.
listen on our previous discussion.

B. Lesson Proper
1. ENGAGE
"ARRANGE ME"

Now , lets go over the mechanics of

the game. We will be having a PIKPAK
BOOM game, each of you be assigned
with a number ( by dividing the class
into four through counting). If I say
“PikPak Boom 4 “ all member of
number will stand up as quickly as
possible.
If you react too slowly or the last to
stand, you will be the one to
unscramble the jumbled words pasted
on the board. This means you have to
stay alert, listen carefully and be quick
on your feet!

Is everything clear?
Yes, Ma'am!

(Here’s the jumbled words)

1. AGEAREV- AVERAGE
2. LANFI DRGEAS - FINAL GRADES
3. NMOPROTIO - PROMOTION
4. TIONPUCOMTA- COMPUTATION
5. INGDARC STEMSYS- GRADING
SYSTEM

Did your enjoy our game?

That’s good to hear.
Yes, ma'am!
So for now, lets have another fun
game.

2. EXPLORE
“Pass or Retained”

Here’s how it works, I’ll show a

statement on the board, and if you
believe that the statement is true, then
you’ll say “Pass” but is you think that it
is false you have to say “ Retained”

You might noticed a number under

your chair. Those numbers have the
same inside this box. I will randomly
pick a number and the person with has
that number will be the one to answer.

Is that clear?

Yes Ma’am!

(here’s the statement)

1. A student who fails one subject automatically
gets retained in the same grade level. ( answer:
Retained)
2. Final grades are computed by averaging the
quarterly grades throughout the school year.
( answer: Pass)
3. A student’s grade for each subject is solely
based on quizzes and exams. ( answer: Retained)
4. Parents and guardians are usually informed if a
student is at risk of retention before the school
year ends. ( answer: Pass)
5. Teacher’s consider different factors like projects,
assignments and class participation when
computing grades. ( Pass)

Did you have fun? that’s good to hear.

Before we move on to our discussion,

let us first be guided by our lesson
objectives.

Everybody please read our objective

for today. After playing a series of activities, the BSED 2A
students are expected to attain the following
with at least 85% level of proficiency:
d. explain the schools grading system and the
process of computing final grades
e. demonstrate the step by step computation
of grades using actual or sample data
accurately.
f. show appreciation for the importance of fair
and transparent grading practices by
participating actively and respectfully in
discussion and reflections.

3. EXPLAIN

For today’s discussion we will

be dealing first on computation
of grades based on DepEd
Order 8, s.2025

Let us talk about the DepEd

Kto12 Grading System. The K to 12 Basic Education Program
 Uses standards and competency based
Kindly read everyone. grading system.
 All grades will be based on the weighted raw
score of the learner’s summative assessment.
 The minimum graded needed to pass a
specific area is 60, which is trasmuted to 75 in
the report card.
 Learners from grade 1 to 12 are graded on
written work, performance tasks, and quarterly
assessment every quarter.

So it means that in computing grades

they use a standard and competency
based grading system which can be
found in curriculum guide. And you
have to get 75%of your grade in each
learning area for you to be passed.
And those written work, performance
task, and quarterly exam will be given
a specific percentage weights that vary
according to the nature of the learning
area. For example, 40% on quarterly
exam, 30% for written work, and
another 30% for performance task.

Did you understand the DepEd Order

8, s.2025?

Yes Ma’am.
Let us now move on to computation of
grade.Let start first on Kindergarten.

Numerical grades are not typically

used; teachers rely on checklists and
portfolios to assess student progress
and development across different
learning areas.

Here is how to assess kindergarten

students. Everyone please read.
Assessing Kindergarten Students;
 Observe student behavior
 Collect work samples
 Use standardized assessments
So it means that in assessing  Communicate with parents
kindergarten it involves observing their
behavior during daily activities,
collecting samples of their work to
track progress and using simple
standardized assessments to check if
they are meeting learning goals.
Teachers also communicate regularly
with parents to share updates and
work together to support the child’s
development.

Is that understood?

So we’ll now be on Grade 1-10. The

average of the Quarterly grades Yes Ma’am
produces the final grade here’s the
formula.

Final grade by learning are = 1st

quarter grade + 2nd quarter grade + 3rd
quarter + 4th quarter grade divided 4

Who wants to try to solve on the board

for example in the English subject you
got 92 in the 1st quarter, 91 in 2nd
quarter, 92 in 3rd quarter, and 93 in 4th
quarter, what will be your final grade in
English Subject?
92+91+92+93 = 92
4
Ma’am the final grade in the English subject
That’s Correct!
will be 92.
Let us now move on to getting the
general avearage.
The general average is computed by
dividing the sum of all final grades by
the total number of learning areas:

Heres the formula;

General Average = Sum of final grades
of all learning areas divided by total
number of learning areas in a grade
level

Let’s try to solve this example.

LEARNING AREAS FINAL GRADE
Filipino 85
English 90
Mathematics 83
Science 86
Araling panlipunan 89
ESP 90
EPP 90
MAPEH 89
General Average
What do you think will be it’s general
average? Ma’am 88
How do you get that answer, can you
show it on the board? Ma’am I add all the final grades of all
learning areas and divided it by 8 since the
learning areas were 8.

85+90+83+86+89+90+90+89 = 88
8
Very good!

On Grade 11 and 12 its still the same

to compute in its semester.

Now you might ask how is the learner’s

progress reported ?
I have here a table containing its
grading scale, with its corresponding
descriptors.

DESCRIPTO GRADIN REMAR

RS G K
SCALE
Outsanding 90-100 Passed
Very 85-89 Passed
Satisfactory
Satisfactory 80-84 Passed
Fairly 75-79 Passed
Satisfactory
Did Not Meet Below 75 Failed
Expectation
For an instance you get a transmuted
grade to a 90, what do you think its
equivalent?

Yes, that’s correct!

How about if it is 73? Ma’am I think it is equivalent to Outstanding.

That’s right, meaning it is failed.

Ma’am it did not meet expectation.
Now that we’ve finished computing
grades, let’s move on to the next
important topic—Promotion and
Retention at the End of the School
Year.

Let’s take a moment to review Table

11: Learner Promotion and Retention.

As you can see in the table, In grade 1-

4 it say that, if a student earns a final (Table 11. Learner Promotion and Retention)
grade of 75 or higher in all learning
areas, that student will be promoted to
the next grade level.

And, if a student gets a grade lower

than 75 in one or two learning areas,
that student will be required to attend
remedial classes. After passing these,
the student may still be promoted.

Is that understood?

Now I have a question, Why do you

think remedial classes are important Yes Ma'am
before promotion is given?
Because they give the student a chance to
catch up and improve their understanding
Exactly! Learning is a process, and before moving to the next level.
these classes are there to help
students succeed—not to punish them.

However, if a student fails in three or

more learning areas, they are
automatically retained.

So in this case you will be anymore

given the chance to take a remedial
class because you are going to retain
at the same grade level.

Does Promotion and Retention are

already clear?

Alright, let me see you if really Yes Ma'am

understand it without looking at the
table. What grade must a student get
in all subject to be promoted?

What happens if a student gets below Ma'am 75

75 in just one or two subjects?

Very Good! He/she is required to take a remedial classes

for learning areas with failing mark, to be
promoted to the next grade level.
And what would be the consequences
if a learners fail three of more subject?

He is automatically retained.
Let’s now proceed to the Alternative
Grading System, our last subtopic.
What do we mean when we say
Alternative?

Ma’am I think alternative is different from the

Okay, it seem like you have a idea. usual or conventional.
And that is right.
An alternative grading system, is it a
another available option for an efficient
system in grading systems.
I have here two different grading
systems used in schools and
universities in the Philippines and to
another places.
First we have the Pass-Fail System.
Everybody please read
Pass-Fail System
In a pass-fail system, students are typically
assessed as either “pass or fail” based on
So it means that this systems is used their overall performance in a course.
when it’s hard to grade a student’s
work using traditional grades like in
fine arts or music, or when there is no
clear standard to measure
performance. In these cases, students
either pass or fail, instead of receiving
specific grade.

Another one is Non-Graded

Evaluation. Everybody please read

Non Graded Evaluation

Focuses on providing feedback for students
learning and improvement, rather than
assigning numerical grades.

It says, that this non graded evaluation

is not yet practiced in the Philippines.
So in this system, students didn’t
receive numeric or letter grades.
Instead, students are evaluated based
on their intellectual growth and
development. However, if required
some schools may still provide grades
or convert evaluations into traditional
grading system.

Is that understood?

Yes, Ma’am
Can someone from the class give the
difference between pass-fail system
and non graded evaluation?
A Pass-fail system simplifies student
evaluation by only assigning two possible
outcomes, pass or fail. While non graded
Very good! I guess you have already evaluation do not assign numeric or letter
mastered our lesson for today. grades as a matter of policy.
4. ELABORATE

Now that you already know to

compute a grades that how
assessed a students final grades
whether he/she is promoted and
retained. We will be having an
activity to test if you really listen
carefully.

Here what you are going to do.

1. The class will be divided into
four groups.
2. Each team will be given a
sample of report card. You have
to compute its general average of
all learning areas.
3. After computing the general
average, you have to analyze the
student final grades in each
subject whether he/she could
pass or retained.
4. You have to choose one
representative to discuss it infront
of the class.

Are the instruction clear?

You may now proceed to your
groups.
Yes ma’am
.

ASSESSMENT:
TEST I
Direction; Write TRUE if the statement is correct, and FALSE if it is incorrect.

___ 1.The K to 12 grading system in the Philippines is standards and competency-

based.

___ 2. In Kindergarten, learners are graded using numbers from 1 to 100.

___ 3. A raw score of 60 is transmuted to 75, which is the minimum passing grade.

___ 4. Performance tasks have equal weight in all learning areas across grade levels.

___ 5. The final grade in each subject from Grade 1 to 10 is the average of the four
quarterly grades.

___ 6. A general average of 74 means the learner has passed the school year.

___ 7. In the pass-fail system, students receive only a “Pass” or “Fail” mark, without
numerical grades.

___ 8. A learner who fails in three or more subjects must take remedial classes to be
promoted.

___9. Teachers use checklists and observation in assessing Kindergarten students.

___ 10. The grading descriptors "Outstanding," "Very Satisfactory," etc., are based on
the learner’s final grades.

TEST II
Why is it important for a grading system to be fair, transparent, and based on standards and
competencies? How can this help students in their learning journey? ( Answer in 3-5
sentence for 5 points)

ASSGNMENT:
In your notebook, create a reflection about on the importance of fair and transparent grade
computation in the learning process.
