45 MARKS MEMO

QUESTION 1

Construction: Draw diameter NP and draw RM 

̂𝑀 + 𝑀𝑁
𝑁 ̂𝑄 = 90° [ radius ⊥ tangent] 
̂
𝑁𝑀𝑅 = 90° [ ⦟ in semi circle] 
∴ 𝑀𝑁̂ 𝑅 = 180° − (90° + 90° − 𝑀𝑁 ̂𝑄) [sum ⦟𝑠 ∆] 
̂𝑄 
= 𝑀𝑁
But 𝑀𝑅̂ 𝑁 = 𝑀𝐾 ̂ 𝑁 [⦟𝑠 same segment]
̂𝑄 = 𝐾 ̂  Answer (7)
∴ 𝑀𝑁

OR

Construction: Draw diameter NR and draw RK 

𝑀𝑁̂ 𝑄 + 𝑅𝑁̂𝑀 = 90° [ radius ⊥ tangent] 
̂
𝑁𝐾 𝑅 = 90° [ ⦟ in semi circle] 
∴ 𝑀𝐾̂ 𝑁 = 90° − 𝑅𝐾 ̂𝑀 
̂𝑀 [⦟𝑆 same segment] 
= 90 − 𝑅𝑁
̂ ̂  Answer
∴ 𝑀𝑁𝑄 = 𝐾
(7)

Construction: Draw radii ON and OM 
𝑀𝑂̂𝑁 = 2𝐾 ̂ [ ⦟ at centre = 2⦟ at circumf/midpts ⦟ = 2 ] 
̂ 𝑀 + 𝑂𝑀
𝑂𝑁 ̂ 𝑁 = 180° − 2𝑘̂ [ ⦟𝑠 𝑜𝑓 ∆] 
̂
𝑂𝑁̂ 𝑀 = 𝑂𝑀̂ 𝑁 = 180°−2𝑘 = 90° − 𝐾 ̂ [ ⦟𝑠 opp =sides]
2 
𝑂𝑁̂ 𝑄 = 90° [ radius ⊥ tangent] 
̂
∴ 𝑀𝑁𝑄 = 𝐾 ̂  (7)

𝐴𝐹 𝐸 = 𝑥 + 𝑦 (Ext angle of a triangle) 
𝐴𝐹̂ 𝐸 = 𝐶𝐷̂𝐸 
Therefore
FCDE is a cyclic quadrilateral (Converse: ext angle of cyclic quad)  (6)
