1. IELTS Speaking Test, Part 1 (Interview) Questions & Answer

1. Do you live in a house or an apartment?

Ans. Currently I live in a cozy one-bedroom apartment in a high-rise

building on the waterfront. And also, it has an open-plan kitchen and a
small living room. For me, it’s a bit cramped, but we have managed to
make good use of the small amount of space we have.

2. Do you have a favorite room?

Ans. For me, it’s not really a room, but I have always loved spending time
on our little enclosed patio. I am not one for fancy decorations; you could
say that I am more of a minimalist by nature. So, this space can only fit a
small table and chairs, and I also use it to grow a few herbs and some
flowering plants.

3. Why is this room your favorite?

Ans. For me, the sun hits the balcony at just the right angle and it becomes
the perfect place to unwind with a good book and a cup of tea. And also, I
have a few planters there, which makes this room special because it's the
closest I can get to nature in the city.

4. Have you ever visited old buildings or monuments?

Ans. Definitely, we visited an ancient Buddhist monastery which is also a

world heritage site, and it was quite enlightening. On top of that my family
and I would often travel to different parts of the country to take a look at
historical buildings or ancient ruins.

5. Would you like to visit any old buildings/monuments in the future?

Ans. Of course, I will continue to visit old buildings or monuments in the

future, and it's always been one of my dreams to visit the Great Pyramids
of Giza. I am fascinated by ancient Egyptian history. In particular, I always
imagined what it would be like to see those majestic structures in real life.

2. Speaking test, Part 1 (Interview) questions

Jibon IELTS

1. Did you learn geography as a child?

ANS: As far as I do remember, this was one of the subjects that we all had
to study in primary school, but I chose not to continue with it in high school.
It just wasn't my cup of tea.

2. Would you visit a country just because of its geographical location?

ANS: Not really, I have a greater interest in the history and culture of the
places I visit. On top of that I tend not to visit any sort of natural landmarks
and choose historically significant sites instead.

3. Did you solve puzzles as a child?

ANS: Of course, this was something that my father thought was fun to do
as a family. I can add that he would often bring home different sets of
puzzles, especially ones that involved fitting shapes together in a clever
sort of way.

4. What kind, word or number puzzles?

ANS: As I said before, my father encouraged us to fiddle around with many

different types of puzzles, but I always enjoyed the ones that involved
numbers.

5. Do you think elderly people should be encouraged to solve puzzles?

ANS: Definitely, I am a firm believer that our minds need mental exercise
just as much as our body needs physical activity. From my own experience,
the elderly members of our family who still do things like solving
crosswords or Sudoku are better at staying sharp.

6. Do you solve number puzzles while commuting?

ANS: For me, I wish I had the time to do things like that. When I am on the
road, I am almost always late, and mentally trying to prepare myself for a
tough day at work or if I am on my way home, I am trying to figure out what
to make for dinner that will satisfy my picky kids.

3. IELTS Speaking test, Part 1 (Interview) questions

1. Where do you live at the moment?

Ans. Actually, now, I live in a tiny one-bedroom apartment in the heart of

the city. On top of that it’s quite cramped for space, but the view from the
balcony is phenomenal since you can see the entire city from it.

2. Who do you live with, and why?

Ans. For me, I live alone, mostly because my apartment is too small to
have a roommate, and also, I am a bit of an introvert and prefer to have my
own space where I can relax and recharge after work.

3. Do you like snacks?

Ans. Of course, I do. I think most people like snacks; they just prefer
different types of snacks. In my case, I love snacking on peanuts and
raisins, especially while I am watching a TV show or a movie.

4. What time of the day do you prefer to have snacks and why?

Ans. Usually, I have a snack in the afternoon on most weekdays. This is

because I often get swamped at work and don’t have time for a proper
lunch break, so I grab whatever I can find to give me a boost. This could be
anything from a bar of chocolate to crisps.

5. Do you think snacking is a healthy habit?

Ans. Definitely, it is not healthy at all. That’s because it ruins my appetite

before dinner and then I end up snacking again late at night. Besides, it
messes up my internal cues. What’s worse is that most of the snacks I eat
are processed foods that are either full of sugar or added salt. They are not
worth the extra calories, but I just can’t seem to shake this unhealthy habit.

6. What were your favorite snacks as a child?

Ans. As a kid I just loved marshmallows, and my dad would usually buy me
a bunch when he came home from work. I can add that my sister and I
Jibon IELTS

would make a cheat version of S’mores with them in the microwave and
they were just divine!

7. If you had a child, what snacks would you give him/her?

Ans. I do think that I would like to think that I would offer my child healthier
alternatives like roasted nuts, dried fruit, and flavored yoghurt as snacks.
However, I think every kid deserves the occasional candy bar every now
and then.

4. Speaking test, Part 1 (Interview) questions

1. What kind of work do you do?

Ans. Actually, I help potential clients make the right decisions when buying
a new home. And, I also help homeowners to put their houses on the
market. Further, the job involves a lot of negotiating and communication
between the different parties involved.

2. Did you always want to be in this profession?

Ans. Not really, when I was younger, I dreamt of being a doctor but in
college, I discovered that I did not have the stomach for dissections. In fact,
the only reason I got into this field was to help out with our household
expenses when my husband was in-between jobs.

3. Are you a morning person? Why or why not?

Ans. For me, I am not good company at all in the mornings. Additionally,
everyone who knows me, knows that I am not in a good mood until I get my
morning cup of coffee. If I could, I would stay up late and sleep till noon. To
express a reason, in the morning I just can't think straight.

4. How often do you read?

Ans. Well, I barely find the time to read, and I wish that was different.
Firstly, when I was younger, I always had my nose buried in a book, and I
could easily finish a whole book in a day. Moreover, I cannot believe that I
Jibon IELTS

am the same person as now I barely finish a page or two before falling
asleep or getting distracted by something on my phone or the TV.

5. Do you love reading books?

Ans. Actually, I do enjoy a good book and as I mentioned before I used to

be quite the bookworm. And also, I just do not have the attention span to
focus on this hobby anymore.

6. How often do you buy books?

Ans. Certainly, I am afraid I buy them too frequently. After that I have a pile
of unread new books and for some reason, I keep buying more.
Particularly, It’s become a bit of an unhealthy habit and my poor wallet is
the one to suffer.

5. Speaking test, Part 3 (Discussion) questions

1. Is there a difference between old and young people's lifestyle?

Ans. I think that older people have more time to do what they enjoy, but
they usually don't have as much energy to do these activities. On the other
hand, youngsters usually have to follow a strict routine set by their parents
or by their school, and they have very little time to pursue activities that
they actually enjoy.

2. What kind of lifestyle do younger people prefer?

Ans. I think the youth of the current generation mostly interact online and a
lot of their time is spent on social media platforms like Instagram and
TikTok. And also they have a sedentary lifestyle with very little physical
activity. Unfortunately, these days the exact opposite is true, and we have
to plead with our teenagers to spend some time outside in the sun.

3. Do younger and older people choose to live in the same places?

Ans. I would have to say that older people tend to live in places that are
less crowded and more laid back. On top of that young people always want
to be in the middle of the action, and they choose places that are much
livelier and more exciting.
Jibon IELTS

4. Why do older people prefer to live in quiet places?

Ans. As I said before, I think that older people prefer to have a more
peaceful lifestyle and because of this most of them move away from the
hustle and bustle of city life and settle in the suburbs.

5. Why do younger people prefer big cities to the countryside?

Ans. Actually, young people often live in busier areas like the city, and I
think this has a lot to do with the fact that cities have more work
opportunities, they don't have to commute as much and such places
usually have a vibrant nightlife, which is appealing to the younger working
generation.

6. Speaking test, Part 1 (Interview) questions

1. Is there a name that you like, and why?

Ans. Definitely, I have always liked the name, Michael. And then, it’s
because as a teenager I loved watching Formula 1 racing and at the time
Michael Schumacher was my hero, because he won more world titles than
any other driver in the history of the sport.

2. Does this name have a meaning and what is it?

Ans. For me, I am not sure about the origins of this name. As far as I can
remember, I think it's the name of one of the archangels. But personally, I
equate this name to excellence because of the sportsperson it reminds me
of.

3. What weather do you prefer, and why?

Ans. Actually, I enjoy sunny summer weather. I can add that this is the best
weather for travelling and spending time outdoors. This is because I love
spending my summer vacation days out and about at the beach.

4. Is there a place that you would want to move to, because it has the type
of weather that you like?
Jibon IELTS

Ans. I would say that I have always wanted to visit the Maldives. On top of
that, living there would be like a permanent vacation with crystal clear water
and sandy white beaches every day. 25 degrees Celsius is the coldest it
ever gets there, and the idea of eternal summer seems really appealing to
me.

5. How has the weather in your country changed in the past few years?

Ans. Of course, the weather patterns have become much more extreme.
And also, summers are hotter and the winters are much colder than ever
before. It's obviously one of the effects of global warming, but the rate at
which these changes are occurring is alarming.

7. Speaking test, Part 1 (Interview) questions

1. What is the weather like in your hometown?

Ans. I would say that the weather is very pleasant there; we get mild
winters with occasional rain and hot summers moderated by the ocean
breezes. On top of that it’s a great place to live or visit, especially if you like
warm temperatures year-round!

2. Do you have a favorite season?

Ans. I absolutely love springtime. I used to love summer when I was

younger, because it was the longest break we had from school, but I found
that as I got older, spring became my favorite season.

3. Why is this season your favorite?

Ans. For me, I love spring because the weather is finally starting to get
nicer. And also, the flowers start blooming, the sun comes out more often,
and it's not as cold outside. To be more accurate, it’s a great time to go on
walks and enjoy nature.

4. How often do you check the weather? Why?

Ans. Actually, I check the weather every day, sometimes multiple times a
day. And, I'm a very weather-sensitive person and need to be prepared for
all kinds of possible conditions.
Jibon IELTS

5. Have your plans ever been affected by the weather?

Ans. Yes, my plans have been constantly affected by the weather. Also,
most recently, I was supposed to fly to Europe for a vacation, but my flight
got cancelled because of the snowstorm that hit the east coast. I can add
that I had to reschedule my flight and lost a lot of money.

8. Speaking test, Part 1 (Interview) questions

1. What type of house do you live in?

Ans. I live in a two-bedroom, one bathroom apartment located in the heart

of the city. On top of that my place is on the third floor of the building, and I
have an amazing view of the city from my balcony.

2. What do you like about your house?

Ans. I love my home because of its location and size; it's close to all the
places that I frequent, such as my favorite cafe, park, and record store.
Additionally, it's just the right size for me - not too big or too small - as it has
enough space for me to remain comfortable without being overwhelming.

3. Where's your favorite place in the house?

Ans. Well, My favorite place in my home is definitely the living room; it has
always been the hub of my activities whether I'm reading a book or
catching up with friends over dinner. Also, it’s where I can kick back and
relax after a long day of work. I can add that the large windows allow for
plenty of natural light, which helps to brighten up the entire room even on
cloudy days.

4. Do you like any sports?

Ans. Yes! I've always been interested in various sports since childhood;
soccer was one sport that was prominent throughout my life growing up
due to its popularity among my friends. As I got older, my interests
expanded into other sports including basketball and volleyball, both of
which require immense coordination between teammates - something that
really attracted me towards them!
Jibon IELTS

5. What sports did you like when you were a child?

And. Actually, as a child, I had always been an active and energetic

person, so it came as no surprise that I loved sports. As I said before, I
used to love playing soccer, especially with my friends in the neighborhood
during the summer months when we would have all-day pickup games
outside.

6. Did you play any sport regularly when you were young?

Ans. Yes, I played both soccer and basketball growing up. Soccer was my
main focus throughout my childhood; although I really enjoyed playing
basketball too. And also, I played either one or both of these sports every
chance I got – whether it was during recess at school or after school in the
neighborhood.
