SALLY RIDE

Sally Ride is a true inspiration for me because her story is one of

courage, determination, and a passion for science and
discovery. She was the first American woman in space and the
third woman in the world .Sally was a true trailblazer who
inspired countless young people to dream of exploring the
stars. Ride's journey to space began in 1978 when she was
selected as one of six female astronauts from a pool of over
8,000 applicants. She flew on two Space Shuttle missions, STS-7
in 1983 and STS-41-G in 1984. During her time in space, she
conducted experiments in physics and astronomy, and she also
operated the robotic arm to deploy satellites. Ride's
accomplishments as an astronaut were groundbreaking, but her
impact extended far beyond her time in space. After retiring
from NASA in 1987, she founded Sally Ride Science, a company
dedicated to inspiring young people, especially girls, to pursue
careers in science, technology, engineering, and math
(STEM).Ride's work with Sally Ride Science included developing
educational materials, creating summer camps, and hosting
science festivals. She believed that everyone, regardless of
gender or background, should have the opportunity to explore
their curiosity and pursue their dreams in STEM fields.Ride's
continues to inspire young people even today. She showed the
world that women can excel in science and engineering, and
she encouraged young people to reach for the stars, both
literally and figuratively.
