ASSIGNMENT - 1
CLASS: X SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS
CHAPTER – 3 A PAIR OF LINEAR EQUATIONS IN TWO VARIABLES
1. Solve by substitution method and Elimination method
i) 3𝑥 + 2𝑦 − 7 = 0 , 4𝑥 + 𝑦 − 6 = 0
ii) 𝑥 + 2𝑦 = 2 , 𝑥 − 3𝑦 = 7
2. Find whether the lines representing the following pair of linear equations intersect
at a point, are parallel or coincident: 2x – 3y + 6 = 0, 4x – 5y + 2 = 0
3. If the system of equations 6x + 2y = 3 and kx + y = 2 has a unique solution, find
the value of k.
4. Determine the value of m and n so that the following pair of linear equations have
infinite number of solutions. (2𝑚 − 1)𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 5 ; 3𝑥 + (𝑛 − 1)𝑦 = 2
5. For what values of p and q will the following pair of linear equations have infinitely
many solutions? 4𝑥 + 5𝑦 = 2 ; (2𝑝 + 7𝑞)𝑥 + (𝑝 + 8𝑞)𝑦 = 2𝑞 − 𝑝 + 1
6. For what value of k will the pair of equations have no solution?
3𝑥 + 𝑦 = 1 ; (2𝑘 − 1)𝑥 + (𝑘 − 1)𝑦 = 2𝑘 + 1
7. Find a and b for which the equation has infinite number of solutions.
3𝑥 − 𝑦 = 14 ; (𝑎 + 𝑏)𝑥 − 2𝑏𝑦 = 5𝑎 + 2𝑏 + 1
8. ABCD is a rectangle. Find the values of x and y

9. If ax + by = a2 – b2 and bx + ay = 0, find the value of (x + y)

10. Solve:
i) 21x + 47y = 110 and 47x + 21y = 162

ii) 141x + 93y = 189 and 93x + 141y = 45

iii) 27x + 31y = 85 and 31x + 27y = 89
