Dear Students
The Tata Building India School Essay Competition is one of the key initiatives undertaken by the Tata Group to
motivate the youth and foster the spirit of nation building. Now in its 16th edition, this is India’s largest and
most prestigious school essay competition, with school students participating from 400+ cities.
The essay competition is a two-phase activity across all the participating schools in the country for students of
classes VI-XII. The first phase consists of showcasing inspirational Tata-linked films which hopefully stimulate
young minds to think about the nation. Following this, the students are asked to write an essay on a given topic
of national significance. To ensure a level playing field, the students are divided into two participating categories
across all languages (Junior - classes VI-VIII and Senior - classes IX-XII).
The essays are evaluated by judges drawn from independent academic and literary circles for city and national levels.
There are two levels of this competition:
Level 1- Interested students must write an essay in 250-300 words on any of the topic given below.

Wildfires, Floods, and Storms: The Increasing Frequency of Extreme Weather Events
Global warming is a myth.
- All essays to be hand written on an A4 sheet, plain or ruled.
- Write you name/class/section and submit to your HRF by Wednesday, 16 August 2023.
- List of shortlisted students will be put up on Friday, 18 August 2023.
Level 2 – Shortlisted students will participate in ‘The Tata Building India School Essay Competition’ to be held in our
school on Wednesday, 23 August 2023.

On the day of the essay writing event, a quick on-the spot-quiz comprising of five questions based these three
Tata videos will be conducted. For each question asked, the student that puts up his/her hand first will be given
a chance to answer the question. In total, five questions will be asked yielding to five students winning an on-
the-spot prize.
After the ‘on-the-spot’ quiz, students are to write an essay on a specific topic related to Environmental
Consciousness, within a maximum time limit of one hour. The specific topic of the essay will be divulged on the
physical Essay Sheets that we will be distributing on the day of the competition at the school premises.
