I. Preface

As a civil engineering student, I am thrilled to enhance my skills and

knowledge in participation of the On-The-Job training (OJT) program in a
respected construction firm. The On-The-Job Training will serve as for the student
to be familiar in relating our academic studies to real world and practical aspects
inside the engineering field. Throughout this actual experience, one of my aims
as a civil engineering student is to apply hands-on work assignments in site
construction process and phases and also the implementations onsite.

In addition, I expect that inside my duty hours during the On-The-Job

Training, is that it will come to realization that in every academic major we had in
was essential throughout the construction process from problem-solving on
quantities, running tests on soil and cement, proper compliance of the hierarchy
of controls wherein there are more activities that I will be exposed of on actual
process. This will serve as an eye opener to us student in real world experience
in relation to our course.
II. Acknowledgement

Deepest appreciation to Philippine Rigid Construction Corporation (PRCC)

for giving me the opportunity to complete my On-The-Job Training onsite in the
proposed project of Dipolog City Public Market which gave me insights about how
the construction is in an organized matter with proper care of not only the heavy
equipment but also to their men at work.

Utmost appreciation to the Civil Engineers: Engr. Janine Roldan, Engr. Julie
Anne Navarro, and Engr. Alimaxcel Mora and our Project Manager Micheal, who
are not only our supervising civil engineers but a very meticulous teacher showing
the specific details inside the construction project, making us experience on
applying quantity solutions and rectifying the means and ways on actual work,
initiate tests on concrete, and gave us more insights in most activities that
happens onsite premises.

Greatest gratitude to the Safety Officer onsite SO3 Herrero in letting us

explore around the construction site with limitations away from moving operation
equipment, and showing us proper guidance within the rules and regulations
onsite.

Special appreciation to the workers and especially to the foreman, who gave
us time to ask more in doing their different specialties at work, showing us how
things are to be done in a well-structured way, and giving us insights and letting
us also experience hands-on work.
III. Abstract

Standing as a Civil Engineering student, I had the greatest opportunity as

an On-The-Job Trainee in Philippine Rigid Construction Corporation (PRCC)
living our expectations and exposure to actual work. The Civil Engineers showed
us a thorough observation on how every work goes in place in accordance with
the standards and controls. As a trainee I have been exposed to work inside the
office primarily to assess what is the current situation. Although having a limited
time in duty hours since I am still a student and taking up subjects, the Engineers
still gave us adequate information about the project construction having site
observations, site visitation and even joining tool box meetings. Men at the
workplace remains the respect with each other dealing with different works with
all the perseverance. New knowledge day by day at work.
IV. School’s Profile

The Great Plebeian, Andres Bonifacio, and the visionary educator,

Amando Borja Amatong, shared a common bond—they both faced poverty head-
on, yet their determination to pursue education and serve their country remained
unwavering. Inspired by the life of the revolutionary hero and driven by his own
challenging circumstances, Amatong established the Andres Bonifacio Institute in
1940. Born in Dalaguete, Cebu to a family of fishermen, farmers, and tuba
gatherers, Amatong persevered to complete his elementary education at a local
school. His journey continued as a government pensionado at the Philippine
Normal School, where at the age of 24, he earned his Secondary Normal diploma.

In exchange for a free education, Amatong dedicated himself to teaching

in Carcar, Cebu, and later in Manicahan, Zamboanga City. His ambition for further
education led him to Jose Rizal College in Manila, where he earned his Bachelor
of Commerce degree. Returning to the field of education after graduation, he
served as School Supervisor for the districts of Dipolog and Katipunan. In 1927,
he married Felicidad Mabanag Sybico, a woman of Chinese descent known for
her pragmatism and industrious nature, who would later play a pivotal role in the
growth of the institution they founded.

After Amatong's passing on April 22, 1943, Felicidad, affectionately called

“Manang Edad”, courageously took on the responsibility of raising their eight
children and continuing her husband's vision of pioneering higher education in
Mindanao. Despite financial hardships, she persevered, reopening the Andres
Bonifacio Institute with loans from relatives—the sole legacy left by her husband.
Her dedication and sacrifice enabled all eight children to pursue college
educations, a testament to her unwavering commitment to both her family and the
institution's development.

Recognized as the Outstanding Mother of 1986 by the National Federation

of Women’s Clubs of the Philippines, Felicidad Sybico vda. de Amatong earned
acclaim for her integrity, frugality, and tireless work ethic, which became
legendary in the community. She instilled a legacy of leadership within her
household, nurturing her children to become exemplary leaders in their respective
fields. This spirit of leadership extended to the institution she helped shape,
ensuring that her efforts continue to bear fruit through the achievements of her
children.
V. Introduction to OJT
A. OJT Information
B. Introduction

As a civil engineering On-The-Job Trainee, I look forward to explore another

side of civil engineering works that complies with the actual works and process,
mainly on the core processes dealt by the Civil Engineers in a day-to-day activity
in a matter of time. This On-The-Job Training will show me the actual possibilities
together with expanding my knowledge from basic to real work processes and
ideas given to me that answers the question of how all engineers get through and
prepare their daily projects. Our knowledge will improve in applying what we
learned from our classes to the real-world implications and how everyone shows
their competency in work and in labor no matter how hard the work is due to some
circumstances. On-The-Job (OJT) is another step for us engineering students in
facing the reality in the future, it is a gateway to apply what we learned and expand
our knowledge throughout the On-The-Job (OJT) Program.

C. Aim

As a civil engineering, looking forward to open another chapter in obtaining

new knowledge on improving the basics of learning is what I expect to gain from
the On-The-Job training working along with head engineers and head staff. This
assesses the development in problem solving in various ways, and the difference
of computations and actual work which will also depend on the workplace and raw
materials.

D. Objective

My objective is to apply what I have learned during in my classes and apply

it to real-world situations as every construction project has its processes and ways
on conducting a project. Also, it is to rectify the common mistakes from a student
in an upfront work.
E. Scope of Work

Throughout the 240-hour On-the-Job Training (OJT) program at the

construction firm, the student civil engineer will collaborate closely with seasoned
project managers and site supervisors on an active commercial building
construction project. Their role will encompass a diverse array of responsibilities
aimed at fostering a hands-on learning experience. These tasks include
conducting regular site visits to observe construction progress, documenting
findings, and gathering pertinent data. They will also assist in surveying, concrete
testing, and other site evaluations and activities that are crucial in supporting
engineering design pros review of construction drawings, specifications, and
engineering calculations. They will provide feedback on design constructability
and identify potential areas for improvement or challenges. Additionally, they will
contribute to the development of project schedules, work breakdown structures,
and resource allocation plans. This will involve coordinating subcontractor
activities and integrating their tasks into the overarching project timeline.

Furthermore, the student trainee will play a pivotal role in inspectingand

observing construction work to ensure compliance with approved plans and
specifications. They will monitor adherence to site-specific safety protocols and
industry standards, meticulously recording construction activities, changes, and
performance metrics. Their contributions will extend to assisting in the preparation
of progress reports, change orders, and other essential project documentation.

Through this immersive experience, the student will gain a comprehensive

understanding of the construction project lifecycle. They will refine their technical
skills, enhance problem-solving capabilities, and cultivate meaningful professional
relationships. These experiences will be instrumental in preparing them for a
successful career in civil engineering.

VIII. Narrative Work

A. Work Accomplishment Reports

During my On-the-Job Training, I had the opportunity to apply civil

engineering principles in a practical setting, allowing me to use what I have
learned in quantity surveying, run test activities and gained valuable insights into
the industry and expand my knowledge base. This experience enabled me to
contribute meaningfully to the company's objectives while learning from real-world
applications of engineering concepts.

One of the key projects I was involved in was the construction of the new
Dipolog City Public Market at Central Barangay, Dipolog City. I assisted in solving
quantities of materials to be used and concrete volume, documentation, and the
preparation of reports. These tasks allowed me to refine my software skills,
particularly in SketchUp and M.S. Excel while also improving my time
management and leadership through effective delegation and teamwork.

Aside from SketchUp, I also participated in laboratory testing of construction

materials, the slump test wherein I was able to apply theories from my
Construction Materials and Testing (CMT) coursework which was solely on the
concrete mixture and consistency for the Slab-on-Grade (SOG). As we the
trainees conducted the test, it shows that the concrete mixture the engineers been
using are in Observing field technicians perform precise calculations and testing
procedures gave me a deeper appreciation of material standards and quality
control.
I also had the opportunity to witness a collaborative meeting among
engineers, architects, and other key personnel, where project objectives and
timelines were discussed in detail. Observing this coordination firsthand gave me
valuable insights into the importance of interdepartmental communication, proper
planning, and collective decision-making in achieving project goals. It provided a
clearer understanding of how roles are distributed and how teamwork drives the
success of a construction project.

Additionally, I contributed to the development of the DPWH Office Building

project in Gulayon. Under the supervision of my mentor, I participated in
measurement activities and design drafting, which further strengthened my
teamwork and communication skills.

Throughout the training, I also visited the company’s production plants and
active project sites, where I observed site engineers managing fieldwork and
coordinating with crews. These experiences gave me a practical view of how
engineering challenges are addressed on-site, emphasizing the importance of
clear communication and efficient problem-solving.

Overall, this comprehensive OJT experience has been instrumental in

shaping my growth as a future civil engineer. The knowledge, technical skills, and
hands-on learning I gained have prepared me to enter the professional world with
confidence and a deeper understanding of my role in the field.
