Case Study

The document presents a case study analyzing the fill volumes of 40 randomly sampled 20-ounce Coca-Cola bottles. It details the maximum and minimum fills, calculates the mean, median, and mode, and discusses data skewness and variation among fills. Coca-Cola's international growth strategy is highlighted, emphasizing investments in new bottling plants to reach new consumers.

CASE STUDY 1:

COCA-COLA ON AN
INTERNATIONAL
GROWTH SPURT

DESCRIPTIVE STATISTIC REPORT

OBJECTIVE
To analyze the fill volumes of 40 randomly
sampled 20-ounce Coca-Cola bottles.

To determine the maximum and minimum fills.

To calculate the mean fill, median and mode.

To find out if the data are skewed

To discuss the variation among fills

COCA-COLA ON AN INTERNATIONAL GROWTH SPURT
Coca-Cola is the top global soft drink seller, with over 773
million of its products consumed daily worldwide. It has the
largest production and distribution system for soft drinks,
selling more than twice as many as its closest competitor, and
operates in over 195 countries. The company is divided into
two main sectors: North America (including the USA, Canada,
and juice production) and International (with four regional
groups). Coca-Cola expects growth due to rising disposable
incomes, a younger global population outside the US and
Europe, decreasing political and transportation barriers, and
global cultural exchange. By 1998, Coca-Cola planned to
invest $200 million to reach 72 million consumers in the
Caucasus and Central Asia, including opening new bottling
plants in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
As these plants come on line, tests of the equipment are done. One test might examine the volume of
fills of bottles. Suppose a random sample of the fills of forty 20-ounce bottles is collected and sent to
the lab. There the volume fills of the bottles are carefully measured, resulting in the following figures.
