KING FAHD UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM AND MINERALS
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CLUB (ISC)
In preparations for coming to the university in the near future, we wish to notify you of some
essentials you need to come along with and some things you should not bother coming with.
Essentials to Consider:
1. Money:
a. Prepare at least 800 to 1000 SAR cash for your living cost in the kingdom for around 1-
1.5 months before getting your first stipend.
b. Come along with a Mastercard or Visa ATM card if possible.
2. Sim Card:
a. Purchase a Saudi Sim Card upon arrival at King Fahd Airport for easy communications
and other registration processes.
b. Permanent Sim Card packages are costly (i.e., STC Sawa). But buying a permanent sim
is better for obvious reasons.
3. Documents:
a. Scan your Transcripts and Certificates and bring the original ones.
b. If married and wish to process visa to bring your family, come along with your
Government Certified Marriage Certificate and related documents for that purpose.
4. Photographs:
Bring Personal Photos with White Background (Passport Size & Stamp Size).
5. Clothing & Accessories:
a. Winter (December to March): consider coming along with
i. A Thick Jacket
ii. Shawl or Sweater (if needed)
iii. Thick Shocks & Hand Gloves
b. Summer (June to September):
i. Short Sleeve Clothes
ii. Sunglasses or Sunscreen
iii. P-cap or Hat
iv. Umbrella
c. Sports: interested in sporting activities, consider bringing
i. Turf boots for football
ii. Rackets for Badminton or Tennis
iii. TT Bats and balls for Table Tennis
6. Medication:
Bring along any specific or regular medicines you use from your own country, some
brands might be difficult to find.
7. Food Items:
Bringing your personal snacks or spices is recommended. It is also recommended to bring
snacks from your home country for late night cravings.
8. Toiletries:
Consider personal cleaning items like Soaps, Shampoo, Mouthwash, Toothpaste and
Brush, Skincare Products to use at arrival before getting acquainted with the terrain and getting the
currency to buy these items.
9. Cultural Symbol:
It is recommended to bring your cultural attires for cultural events as a way of promoting
your culture among your colleagues.
10. Stationary:
If easy on you, come along with some basic stationeries to ease your study and settling
down.
11. Electric Gadgets:
KSA uses type G, which is the plug that has three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern
plugs (2 horizontal rectangles, one vertical) for most electrical sockets and extensions.
Consider this if you wish to bring any electrical equipment from your country or buy
adaptors here (if need be).
THINGS NOT NEEDED:
1. Heavy Bedding or Comforters: These items will be provided by the housing. You can
consider an extra bed sheet and covers of your choice.
2. Cooking Gadgets and Stuffs: It is prohibited for any student to cook inside the dormitory
and every room is equipped with smoke detectors.
3. Extension Boxes: it will be provided for you at the dormitories, no need to bring extra.
4. Textbooks: Specific study materials will be provided; you can bring textbooks of your
choice if have any special ones though.
NB: Original transcript or certificates given to DGS, or any agency/instances will not be returned
to you, be guided.
