Family - a group of people that are related.


- fundamental society of fundamental of nursing.

What is a family?
Definition could be cultural, political and legal.
According to legal - Family is defined as a group of person usually together related by blood, marriage
or adaption.
Marriage- is both and cultural and legal process.
 Marriage = legal process ( A profession of commitment )
 Blood - biological part of family, (son/ daughter)
 Adaption - enable to make another people ma under sa family tru legal process.

According to fiedman.
Classified in 2 fam.
Traditional / Non Traditional.
Conventional / Non Conventional

Traditional family structure - ex: Nuclear family,(+) other people= extended family.

Non -conventional - ex: 1. Dyad family = mga people na ga choose na dili sa mag children even
mana silag kasal.
Possible reasons - work sched problem, financial problem.
2. Blended family - Has combined because of remarriage.
(gina usa ang other family )
Can indulged in another relationship only if (dead/death, annulment)
3. Coumpound family - (Muslim Law 1083) Male husband may marry multiple wives (4), kailangan
financially stable ka, tas kailangan equally imong tagad sa 4, the present wife will allow u to marry.
Ground para makiha ug adultery - Women: Reasonable doubt.
Male : Can caught literally with spouse down.
4. Cohabiting family -A heterosexual couple that choose to live to live in outside marriage.
- Common law (canada) - more than 10yrs live in pwedi na share ang property.
5. Single Parent - Can result from divorce, death of a spouse, or a parent raising a child outside of
marriage.
6. Same sex Marriage - homosexual couple may choose to include children in the family children
may adopted.
Motivation - love, companionship, financial capacity, sexual satisfaction.
Marriage - defined by bilateral union and authenticated by law.
7. Communal Family - Group of people who have chosen to live together but may not be related
by marriage or blood.

2 Functions of Family

1. The Family is responsible to meet the needs of society.


- procreation, socialization, honesty and integrity, status placement, economic function
(responsible for work force),( /remittance task - ofw padala to pinas/),

2. Family is responsible to meet the needs of the individual/members.


- physical maintenance (include hygiene), welfare and protection, education.

Family as a client has to be understood by a community health nurse, the nurse has to know how to
provide care to the family.
