I. Project Title/ Description:

Project PRIDE (Purposive Reading Instruction amidst Diversity in Education)

Focus on those who needs further development

Recognizing the value of reading in individual’s success, Guiguinto District is one


with the Department of Education (DepEd) in taking efforts in making “Every Child A
Reader” utilizing Project PRIDE (Purposive Reading Instruction amidst Diversity in
Education).

To address challenges in English literacy, the remedial teacher or class


adviser will conduct targeted instruction (remediation, reinforcement, enrichment) with
options of implementation as follows:
Option 1: In-class intervention
Interventions may be implemented 30 minutes daily as reflected in the sample class
program (as per DepEd Order No. 31, s 2012, p. 9).

Option 2: After-school intervention


Intervention may be outside the class hours of learners. It may be during
weekdays with is a minimum of one (1) hour per week.
Schools may add additional minutes or hours as long as proper consultation with
the parents has been conducted. Learners who will undergo intervention using this
scheme shall submit a signed parental consent form.

II. Objectives:
 To reduce the number of struggling readers in Key stage 1 and Key stage
2 by at least 75%
 To enhance the reading skills of learners for SY 2022-2023.
 To utilize these skills in learning other learning areas apart from English.

III. Activities/ Interventions:


Schools in Guiguinto District utilize different reading interventions to cater the
needs of learners especially the struggling readers.

Analysis and Interpretation:


This table shows the comparative result of the number of identified struggling
readers in Guiguinto District per grade level. Based on the results, from 972 identified
struggling readers in Grade 1, it was trimmed down to 22 struggling readers or 2.26%,
from 179 struggling readers in Grade 2 was trimmed down to 31 struggling readers or
39.79%, Grade 3 was trimmed down to 57 struggling readers or 10% out of 570
struggling readers, out of 503 struggling readers in Grade 4 it was trimmed down to 193
or 38.37%, Grade 5 had 476 struggling readers and decreased to 164 or 34.45%, and
from 518 Grade 6 struggling readers was decreased to 142 or 37.41%.
The data shows that there was a huge decrease in number of struggling readers
with the aid of the different reading interventions utilized by each school in the District
for school year 2022-2023.

VI. Way Forward:

To continuously reduce the numbers of struggling readers, Guiguinto District will still
utilize Project PRIDE (Purposive Reading Instruction amidst Diversity in Education) in
addition to the division initiative reading program to consistently fills-in the needs of
struggling learners. Other interventions to be used by different schools in Guiguinto will
be monitored and supervised for implementation. With this, “Every Child A Reader” goal
of the Department of Education (DepEd) can be achieved.
