SUMMER 2014

A) Write the meaning of the following pairs of words and use them in sentences of
your own (Any TWO):
1. Hill –Heal:
Hill: Meaning: a conspicuous and often rounded natural elevation of the earth’s
surface/an incline
Sentence: Jack and Jill went up the hill.
Heal: Meaning: to restore or be restored to health/ to cure/ to treat (a wound etc.)
Sentence: Doctor always takes care to heal the wound.

2. Write- Right
Write: Meaning: to draw or mark (symbols, words, etc.) on a surface, usually paper,
with a pen, pencil etc.
Sentence: The students write their assignments regularly.
Right: Meaning: appropriate/suitable/fit/proper/correct
Sentence: He is the right man for the post of Manager.
OR
Meaning: a word indicating a specific
side/direction/position/area/part
Sentence: The hospital is situated at the right side of my office.

3. Storey-Story
Storey: Meaning: a floor or level of a building/ a set of rooms on one level
Sentence: This building has five storeys.
Story: Meaning: a narration of a chain of events told or written in prose or verse/ a
piece of fiction
Sentence: My grandmother used to tell me stories.
(Instructions: Sentences can vary.)

Sentence: "Have you seen Raj?" "No, I haven't."

2. See-sea:
See: Meaning: to notice people and things with your eyes
Sentence: Turn the light so that I can see. Sea: Meaning: a
large area of salt water Sentence: I'd like to live by the sea.

3. Quiet –quite:
Quiet: Meaning: making no noise
Sentence: The children are very quiet. I wonder what they're doing.
Quite: Meaning: a little or a lot but not completely
Sentence: I'm quite tired, but I'm happy to walk a little further.
