1. COURSE INTRODUCTION
Data Science in general, and Business Analytics in particular, has emerged as one of the best,
most demanded, and the hottest job across the globe (Bloomberg, Business Insider, Harvard
Business Review). Widespread availability of data, open-source tools for analysis, and their ever-
increasing business applications have been the primary drivers behind the requirement of millions
of skilled data scientists and analytics professionals in the 21st century. The primary objective of
the course is to communicate to the students the importance/role of analytics in Business
situations, familiarize them with analytical techniques and software applications through hands
on sessions on real world business data/cases, and empower them to independently conduct
analysis and interpretation to be able to provide solutions to business problems and give
managerial/policy recommendations.

AS1 : Descriptive Analytics Project Marks: 20


Give brief description about the assessment: Students will be required to choose a relevant
dataset and carry out exploratory analytics using IBM SPSS Statistics. They will have to
submit an project report which would include presentation of findings and implications from
their result.

AS2 : Quiz Marks: 30


Give brief description about the assessment: This will test the theoretical understanding of
students regarding various concepts of business analytics. It will also include applied questions
relating to various descriptive and inferential techniques.

AS3 : Capstone Project Marks: 40


Give brief description about the assessment: Students will be required to submit a Capstone
project at the end of semester in which they will apply learnings of the course. They will be
choosing a business dataset, set out analytics objective and carry out analysis to solve business
problem and/or provide recommendations.

AS5 : Class Participation Marks: 10


Give brief description about the assessment:
Assessment will be done on the basis of your participation in the ‘class discussions’ through
questioning and answering, case discussion and role plays, including your preparation of the
‘required readings/cases, if any. Assessment will be based on your active class participation,
your intellectual alertness, quality of questions asked and the quality of observations or
answers provided during sessions.
