Children’s museums

- Lastenkaupunki (children’s town)located in senate square, in the oldest house in


Helsinki (1757), explore Helsinki’s past (horse carriages, theatre, grandma house, play
shopkeeper etc) (FREE)
P.S. You can also celebrate your child’s birthday party in their children’s hall!
- Lastentarhamuseo: dedicated to the history of kindergartens in Finland. You can
discover rooms full of beautiful retro toys (small fee)
- Museoleikki (Espoo): a fun toy museum, includes both a permanent collection and
themed exhibitions (small fee)

Museums
Consider investing in a museum card, almost all museums include free interactive area for
children! For example:
- Emma (Espoo) an entire floor dedicated to children and beloved characters from
children’s literature. Emma also organizes arts workshops for babies and toddlers.
- Natural History museum
- Department's Fire Museum
- Museo Liekki (University of Helsinki)

Playgrounds
“Leikkipuisto”: The translation of the term is misleading, they are much more than a
playground. They include daycare style buildings fully equipped for little people, usually
offering programs during weekdays. Find one close to your area 😊 (FREE)
They can be rented out for a small fee during the weekend, perfect option for a lovely birthday
party, toys & kitchen areas included!

PS. most ‘leikkipuisto’ offer a complementary hot meal for any child under 17 years old during
the summer months (weekdays at 12:00)

Libraries
Rikhardinkatu and Kallio are particularly well equipped, but you can find many other amazing
ones around the Helsinki region. They also offer programs for babies/toddlers weekly. (FREE)

Farms
In many farms you can see traditional domestic animals: sheep, goats, cattle, ducks, hens,
rabbits and horses. For example: Fallkulla Domestic Animal Farm (FREE)

Other
- Cultural Centre Caisa: arts and culture for all, including kids. For example, toddlers
painting classes (FREE)
- Annantalo; an art centre dedicated to children and young people, lots of workshops,
event and exhibitions (MOSTLY FREE).
- Albertin olohuone: a friendly meeting place for all generations. It’s a great place for you
to get to know other parents of young children while your little ones enjoy themselves
and develop important social skills as they play and do things together. There is even a
lovely lady called Lissu who organizes music classes for babies free of charge 😉
