Degree of Celsius

Joule

Q7: Answer the following questions:

1- Explain the difference between chloroplasts and chlorophyll.

Chloroplasts are organelles found in the cells of plants, They are responsible for carrying out
photosynthesis

Chlorophyll is the green pigment located within the chloroplasts, Chlorophyll absorbs sunlight needed
for the photosynthesis process

2- What is the difference between an ionic bond and a covalent bond ?

3- What is the difference between a positive and a negative ion ?

Positive ion formed when an atom of metal loses one electron or more
Negative ion formed when an atom of nonmetal gains one electron or more

4- What is the difference between heat and temperature ?

4
Heat: it is the total thermal energy of the vibrating particles in an object and its unit is joule
Temperature: it measures the average energy of the particles of an object and its unit is degree Celsius

5- What is the difference between a potassium atom and a potassium ion ?

Potassium atom: it has one electron in the outer electron shell

Potassium ion: it has 8 electrons in the outer electron shell and has a positive charge

6- What is the difference between a chlorine atom and a chlorine ion ?

Chlorine atom: it has 7 electrons in the outer electron shell

Chlorine ion: it has 8 electrons in the outer electron shell and has a negative charge

From chemical energy in the fuel to kinetic, thermal, and sound energy

3-Solar panel

From solar energy to electric energy

Q10:

5
Density = Mass/Volume = 120 g/100 cm3
= 1.2 g/cm3

Density = Mass/Volume = 1.3 g/1000 cm3

= 0.0013 g/cm3

Density = Mass/Volume = 97 g/10 cm3

= 9.7 g/cm3

f. Why you chose that substance to be metal?

Because denser metal are often stronger and more resistance to wear .

Q11.
1- Calculate the density of a piece of iron with a mass of 78 g and a volume of 10 cm3

Density = Mass/Volume = 78 g/10 cm3

= 7.8 g/cm3

2- A heater uses 2000 J of electrical energy in 1 second.

The heater changes 1200J of this to useful thermal energy in 1 second.
Calculate the quantity of energy that is wasted by the heater in 1 second..
The wasted energy= 2000J – 1200J = 800 J

Q12.

1- How long ago do you think that the Earth was first formed? 4600 million years ago

2- For how many years have there been living things on Earth?_4000 million years ago

3- How long ago did photosynthesis begin? 3000 million years ago

4- There was almost no oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere until 3000 million years ago. Then oxygen began
to build up in the air. Suggest why.
Because from 3000 million years ago , the first organisms that could photosynthesise appeared, and
photosynthesis produces oxygen gas
