MAKE MONEY, MANAGE MONEY AND MULTIPLY MONEY
Bible text: 3 John 1 vs 2
INTRODUCTION
Money is any item or medium of exchange that is accepted by people for the payment of goods
and services. Ecclesiastes 10:19 says “money answers all things”. We should all know that God
is interested in our prosperity as His children. Deuteronomy 8:18 says it is God who gives power
to make wealth. In this sermon we shall look at how we can make, manage and multiply money
as children of God. It is my prayer that after this message your eyes of understanding will be
opened and blessings will flow into your life.
MAKING MONEY
Money is essential but we should also know that it is the root of all evil according to 1Timothy
6:9-10 which says “The love of ,money is the root of all evil, those who desire to be rich fall into
temptation and many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
In making money, you must be careful to differentiate between greed and need. Remember,
1Tim.6:6 says “But godliness with contentment is great gain”. You should therefore know that
making money is not a function of age rather it responds to the direction of goods, services or
skills.
As young adults and youths and even the church as a whole we must be wary of some wrong
ways to making money. Some of these bad ways are listed below:
1. Gambling
2. Betting
3. Fraud
4. Theft/robbery, kidnapping, assassination
5. Internet fraud (yahoo yahoo…)
6. Drug trafficking
7. Smuggling
8. Human trafficking
9. Piracy: software, music or video without express permission
10. Pornography business/prostitution/gigolo
Do not get engage in any criminal activity nor ungodly ways to make money. Proverbs 28:20 “a
faithful man will abound with plenty but those who hasten to be rich will not go unpunished”.
There are godly and socially acceptable ways to making money. Proverbs 10:22 says “the
blessing of the LORD, it makes rich and it adds no sorrow with it”. So, let us look at three (3)
essentials of making money:
i. Skills: Proverbs 18:16 says “A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great
men”. In learning, I must say not all skills, academic programs or trainings can bring you
desired results in terms of money. You must know that some skills or knowledge are
obsolete and are no longer useful in today’s age. Let’s look at some skills needed in the
21st century: Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis, Digital Marketing, Programming,
Mobile Applications, Sustainable Alternative Energy etcetera
Other old time skills but which are very relevant and can bring money to your table
include: Health clinical skills, Auto mechanics, fashion designing, baking, catering,
agriculture (you can add value to agricultural products)
The amount of money that flows is largely dependent on the type of problems you
solved and the environment you are. There are some skills in high demand with very
attractive remuneration. You must be ready to learn, unlearn and relearn. The future is
for those who are open to learning.
ii. Vision: Be vision driven and not money driven, have a vision that will outlive you. Pro.
29:18a says “where there is no vision, the people perish”. A man without a vision is a
man without a future. Vision enables you to work smart and takes away unnecessary
labour.
You should understand that you were created specially to proffer solutions to specific
challenges with unique potentials. Therefore you must draw up inspiration from God to
walk in divine purpose that will naturally bring money for you.
Isaac wanted to go to Egypt in the time of famine, he was divinely guided to stay where
there was famine [Gerar]. Gen. 26:1-14. On the other hand, Elimelech left
Bethlehemjudah, and went to Moab due to famine. Unfortunately, he died with his two
sons (Ruth1:1-2) because he was without vision.
iii. Righteousness: this involves doing the right thing at the right time; no cheating, do not
cheat your clients, customers, employees, employer, colleagues, subordinates, or boss.
Righteousness involves diligence; a lazy person is an unrighteous person (Pro.22:29).
Righteousness also involves timeliness, punctuality, obedience to rules of engagement.
The world is in dire need of righteous people in every sector. Add to your skill vision and
to your vision add righteousness. Pro. 14:34 says “Righteousness exalts a nation but sin
is a reproach to any people”.
MANAGING MONEY
Pro. 23:5 says “wilt thou set thine eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make
themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven”. Money can ‘fly’, it is transferable.
How do you manage money so that there will be sustainability?
a) Saving: this is the least of what you can do with money. In Matt.25:27, the lord told the
unprofitable servant he should have deposited the money in banks and at least he
would have received it with interest. Save more, you can save for short, medium or long
term purpose. Joseph solved the problems of impending famine by saving.
b) Spend less than your income: reduce your recurrent expenditure, don’t accumulate bills
c) Have budget: Jesus taught us in Luke 14:28-29, the importance of counting our cost and
that is simple budgeting which helps in managing money.
d) Keep profitable relationships: Pro.13:20 says “he that walks with wise shall be wise but
the companion of fools shall be destroyed
e) Read books: study the biographies of tested and proven people, read books of
successful people; you will surely learn a great deal from them.
MULTIPLYING MONEY
Genesis 26:13 says “And the man waxed great and went forward and grew until he became
very great”. Isaac multiplied his wealth, he did not just manage what he inherited; he multiplied
it.
To multiply money, let’s look at sure ways to do it:
Trade with God: honour God with your money; first fruit, tithe and offerings. Carefully
study Malachi 3:8-12
Invest your money: Increase your streams of income. Search out more ways to
legitimately increase your income. Invest on passive income; passive income is money
acquired with minimal labour. Take your time to learn and invest your money.
Enter into covenant with God: there is a sure covenant that God made with Abraham
and it was Isaac and carried by Jacob. Abraham walked with God and he became father
of many nations; he multiplied.
In conclusion, there is kingdom wealth for every believer who is ready to partner with God,
follow Jesus and live according to the Kingdom rules.
Make up your mind to follow Jesus today if you are yet to do so and it shall be well with you.
