Finding God

Description:
Science and education are not an excuse to reject the existence of God. There is more than enough proof
that God is real for those who choose to take an honest look. This series will examine an abundance of
evidence from inside the Bible and beyond, including the areas of Science, Space and Nature which point
to God’s existence. If you or someone you know is interested in seeking the invisible God and learning
exactly what to do when you find Him, this series is for you.

People who are educated and highly intelligent are not doomed to live a faithless life because there isn’t
enough evidence to prove that God exists, because there is.

I. Science and Space

A. Science
1. Genesis 1:1 (NKJV) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
a. This one statement answers more questions than it leaves unanswered.
2. Those who deny the existence of God and look down on those who believe, do so in
the face of an abundance of evidence to the contrary.
B. Definition of Science Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is this: knowledge about or study of
the world based on facts learned through experiments and observation.
1. A scientific explanation for the origin of the universe can never be given because it
can’t be duplicated in a laboratory and it wasn’t observed.
2. They want us to believe that everything came from nothing. That’s not science, that’s
faith.
3. Faith in nothing is still faith.
4. In the beginning God…we give God credit for everything, we worship God, seek
God, believe in God and live for God and die for God.
5. In the beginning nothing created the heavens and the earth. People who believe that,
give nothing the credit for everything, they worship nothing, they search for nothing,
they believe in nothing they live for nothing and die for nothing.
6. “But since we are finite creatures who must make our decisions based on probability,
there has to be a point where we realize that the weight of the evidence comes down
on one side or the other. We’ll never have all the answers. But…there are more than
enough answers to give God the benefit of our doubts.”
7. Quote from “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist” by:
a. Norman L. Geisler Taught theology philosophy and apologetics on the college or
graduate level for over 50 years professor at Dallas theological Seminary and
Liberty University.
b. Dr Frank Turek. A speaker and an author, hosts an hour-long TV program called
“I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist”, leading apologetics expert and
cultural commentator has appeared on many top TV programs.
c. “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist”: Origin of the universe: it cannot
have come into existence by itself—something cannot come from nothing. To do
so would contradict known scientific laws. According to the First Law of
Thermodynamics (the law of conservation of energy), matter and energy can be

1
Finding God

neither created nor destroyed. [The Big Bang] represents the instantaneous
suspension of physical laws.
C. Thermodynamics is the study of matter and energy.
1. According to the Second Law of Thermodynamics (the law of increasing entropy),
every ordered system over time tends to become more disordered; things do not
become more complex.
2. Two unanswered questions, 1. Origin of nonliving matter, 2. The origin of living
organisms.
D. The Bible does not contradict science, the Bible contradicts atheism and evolution.
1. Science is the glimpse of God’s purpose in nature. The very existence of the amazing
world of the atom and radiation points to a purposeful creation, to the idea that there
is a God and an intelligent purpose back of everything . . . An orderly universe
testifies to the greatest statement ever uttered: “In the beginning, God . . .” —Arthur
H. Compton, Nobel Prize winner in Physics.
2. “A little science estranges men from God, but much science leads them back to
Him.” —Louis Pasteur is best known for developing the process of pasteurization.
His work laid the foundation for modern medicine and the development of vaccines
against diseases such as rabies and anthrax.
3. Christians have good reasons based on observation (such as the Big Bang and the
Anthropic Principle) for believing what they believe. Atheists don’t. That’s why we
don’t have enough faith to be atheists. (I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist)
4. Francis Crick, co-discoverer of DNA and another ardent Darwinist, agrees with
(atheist Richard) Dawkins about the appearance of design. In fact, the appearance of
design is so clear he warns that “biologists must constantly keep in mind that what
they see was not designed, but rather evolved.” (I Don’t have enough Faith to be an
Atheist)
E. Not all Scientists are Atheists:
1. Jerry Bergman, Ph.D., has compiled a list of almost 3,000 scientists and professors
who reject evolution, most of whom hold Ph.D.’s in science. He believes that, given
the time and resources, he could easily complete a list of 10,000 names. pg. 67.
2. In fact, according to Dr. Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project, 40
percent of working scientists claim to be believers.
3. In a 2007 Newsweek poll, 78 percent attribute creation to God. Only 13 percent
believe in naturalistic evolution. Pg. 69
4. Speaking of the absurdly improbable, Harvard biologist Stephen Jay Gould described
humans as “a glorious accident” of evolution which required 60 trillion contingent
events. (I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist)
5. Isaiah 29:15-16 (NKJV) Woe to those who seek deep to hide their counsel far from
the LORD, And their works are in the dark; They say, “Who sees us?” and, “Who
knows us?” Surely you have things turned around! Shall the potter be esteemed as
the clay; For shall the thing made say of him who made it, “He did not make me”? Or
shall the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?
a. (MSG) Does a book say to its author, “He didn’t write a word of me”?
Does a meal say to the woman who cooked it, “She had nothing to do
with this”?

2
Finding God

6. What happens when people reject God and society removes the idea of God from the
culture?
a. What happens when people replace the religious with secular?
b. The absence of light is darkness, the absence of God is evil.
c. Romans 1:28-30 (NKJV) And even as they did not like to retain God in their
knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are
not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness,
covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-
mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud,
boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

II. Space
A. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
1. Genesis 1:14-19 (NKJV) Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the
heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and
for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give
light on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to
rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set
them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the
day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it
was good. So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
2. Science cannot explain where nonliving matter came from.
3. People may think that because I believe that in the beginning God created the
heavens and the Earth I am naïve and uneducated, but the alternative is that
everything came from nothing for no reason. Which is more absurd? GF
a. “If there is no God, why is there something rather than nothing?” is a question
that we all have to answer. And in light of the evidence, we are left with only two
options: either no one created something out of nothing, or else someone created
something out of nothing. Which view is more reasonable? (I don’t have enough
faith to be an atheist)
B. The Universe is not Eternal.
1. This means it had a beginning.
a. For example, radioactive uranium eventually turns into lead. This means that if
all uranium atoms were infinitely old, they would all be mineral lead by now, but
they’re not. So, the earth cannot be infinitely old.
2. The Second Law of Thermodynamics supports the Big Bang but is not dependent on
it. The fact that the universe is running out of usable energy and heading toward
disorder is not even up for debate. (I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist)
3. Something or someone wound it up now it’s winding down.
4. Thermodynamics is the study of matter and energy, the Second Law of
Thermodynamics (the law of increasing entropy), every ordered system over time
tends to become more disordered; things do not become more complex. (I don’t have
enough faith to be an atheist)
5. Isaiah 42:5 (NKJV) Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and
stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who
gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it:

3
Finding God

6. Romans 1:19-20 (NKJV) because what may be known of God is manifest in them,
for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible
attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His
eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
a. Romans 1:19-20 (WNT) because what may be known about Him is plain to their
inmost consciousness; for He Himself has made it plain to them. 20 For, from the
very creation of the world, His invisible perfections--namely His eternal power
and divine nature--have been rendered intelligible and clearly visible by His
works, so that these men are without excuse. (Weymouth)
7. Psalms 19:1-2 (NLT) The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his
craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him
known.
8. Isaiah 40:26 (NLT) Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings
them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his
great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.
9. Job 38:4-6 (NKJV) “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell
Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you
know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or
who laid its cornerstone…
10. Job 38:8-12 (NKJV) “Or who shut in the sea with doors, When it burst forth and
issued from the womb; When I made the clouds its garment, And thick darkness its
swaddling band; 10 When I fixed My limit for it, And set bars and doors; When I
said, ‘This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!’
“Have you commanded the morning since your days began, And caused the dawn to
know its place,

III. Nature Literature History

A. Nature: The Origin of Life.
1. Nature: The physical world collectively, including plants, animals the landscape and
other features or products.
2. Gen 1:11-12. Plants
3. Gen 1:20-26 Animals
4. The theory of spontaneous generation: life emerged from nonliving matter.
5. The law of biogenesis states that life begets life.
6. They tell us spontaneous generation happened but can't explain it, can’t reproduce it
in a laboratory, can't prove it, that's faith not science.
B. Don’t give evolution credit for what God did.
1. Naturalistic evolutionists claim that this one-celled amoeba (or something like it)
came together by spontaneous generation (i.e., without intelligent intervention) in a
warm little pond somewhere on the very early earth. According to their theory, all
biological life has evolved from that first amoeba without any intelligent guidance at
all. (I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist)
2. The complexity of the single cell.
3. The supreme problem for Darwinists is explaining the origin of the first life. For
unguided, naturalistic macroevolution to be true, the first life must have generated
spontaneously from nonliving chemicals. Unfortunately for Darwinists, the first life

4
Finding God

—indeed any form of life—is by no means “simple.” (I don’t have enough faith to be
an atheist)
4. 1953 is the year when James Watson and Francis Crick discovered DNA
(deoxyribonucleic acid), the chemical that encodes instructions for building and
replicating all living things.
5. The rungs of the DNA ladder consist of a specific order of four nitrogen bases. These
nitrogen bases are adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine, which commonly are
represented by the letters A, T, C, and G. These letters comprise what is known as the
four-letter genetic alphabet. This alphabet is identical to our English alphabet in
terms of its ability to communicate a message, except that the genetic alphabet has
only four letters instead of twenty-six.1 … the specific order of A, T, C, and G within
a living cell determines the unique genetic makeup of that living entity. (I don’t have
enough faith to be an atheist)
6. The message found in the DNA of a one-celled amoeba (a creature so small, several
hundred could be lined up in an inch). Staunch Darwinist Richard Dawkins, professor
of zoology at Oxford University, admits that the message found in just the cell
nucleus of a tiny amoeba is more than all thirty volumes of the Encyclopedia
Britannica combined, and the entire amoeba has as much information in its DNA as
1,000 complete sets of the Encyclopedia Britannica!2 (Richard Dawkins, The Blind
Watchmaker, 1987, New York: Norton) In other words, if you were to spell out all of
the A, T, C, and G in the “unjustly called ‘primitive’ amoeba” (as Dawkins describes
it), the letters would fill 1,000 complete sets of an encyclopedia! Now, we must
emphasize that these 1,000 encyclopedias do not consist of random letters but of
letters in a very specific order—just like real encyclopedias. (I don’t have enough
faith to be an atheist)
7. Francis Crick, co-discoverer of DNA and another ardent Darwinist, agrees with
Dawkins about the appearance of design. In fact, the appearance of design is so clear
he warns that “biologists must constantly keep in mind that what they see was not
designed, but rather evolved.” (I Don’t have enough Faith to be an Atheist)
8. Romans 1:20 (NKJV) For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are
clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power
and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
9. Microbiologist Michael Denton, though himself an atheist, adds, “The complexity of
the simplest known type of cell is so great that it is impossible to accept that such an
object could have been thrown together suddenly by some kind of freakish, vastly
improbable event. Such an occurrence would be indistinguishable from a miracle.”11
(I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist)
10. You’ve got to have a lot of faith to be a Darwinist. You have to believe that, without
intelligent intervention: 1. Something arose from nothing (the origin of the universe).
2. Order arose from chaos (the design of the universe). 3. Life arose from non-life
(which means that intelligence arose from non-intelligence, and personality arose
from non-personality). (I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist)
C. Species
1. Origin of life: We’ve seen that it cannot have come into existence by itself—life
cannot come from non-life. To do so would contradict known scientific laws.
According to the Law of Biogenesis, life arises only from preexisting life.

5
Finding God

2. Origin of species: We’ve seen that the incredible diversity of life cannot arise from a
simple cell. To do so would contradict known scientific laws. According to the Law
of Biogenesis, life perpetuates itself—kinds only reproduce their own kinds.
3. “In grammar school they taught me that a frog turning into a prince was a fairy tale.
In the university they taught me that a frog turning into a prince was a fact!” —RON
CARLSON
D. Plants
1. Genesis 1:11-13 (NKJV) Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb
that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is
in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that
yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself
according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning
were the third day.
E. Animals
1. Genesis 1:24-25 (NKJV) Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature
according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according
to its kind”; and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind,
cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its
kind. And God saw that it was good.
IV. Literature and History
A. Literature
1. The Bible
a. God has given us His word to reveal Himself to us. The Bible is where we learn
who He is and what to believe about Him.
2. 2 Peter 1:20-21 (NKJV) knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any
private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of
God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
a. 2 Peter 1:21 (AMP) For no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it
[to do so—it never came by human impulse], but men spoke from God who were
borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit.
B. Old Testament
1. Until recently, however, we had no way of knowing just how amazing the
preservation of the Old Testament has been. Before 1947, the oldest complete
Hebrew manuscript dated to A.D. 900. But with the discovery of 223
manuscripts in caves on the west side of the Dead Sea, we now have Old
Testament manuscripts that have been dated by paleographers at around 125 B.C.
These Dead Sea Scrolls, as they are called, are a thousand years older than any
previously known manuscripts. (Beyond Belief to Conviction by Josh
McDowell)
2. But here’s the exciting part: Once the Dead Sea Scrolls were translated and
compared with modern versions, the Hebrew Bible proved to be identical, word
for word, in more than 95% of the text. (The variation of 5% consisted mainly of
spelling variations.) (Beyond Belief to Conviction by Josh McDowell)
3. In other words, the greatest manuscript discovery of all time revealed that a
thousand years of copying the Old Testament produced only excruciatingly
minor variations, none of which altered the clear meaning of the text or brought

6
Finding God

the manuscript’s fundamental integrity into question. (Beyond Belief to

Conviction by Josh McDowell)
4. Ps 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. (KJV)
5. Isa 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall
stand for ever.
6. Ps 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of
earth, purified seven times. (KJV)
7. Ps 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. (KJV)
8. Isa 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall
stand for ever.
9. Mt 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
(KJV)
10. Numbers 23:19 (NKJV) “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man,
that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and
will He not make it good?
11. Rom 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar.
C. New Testament
1. The New Testament documents: 1. are early (most written 15-40 years later, well
within two generations of the events) 2. contain eyewitness testimony 3. contain
independent eyewitness testimony from multiple sources 4. are written by
trustworthy people who taught and lived by the highest standard of ethics, and who
died for their testimony 5. describe events, locations, and individuals corroborated by
archaeology and other writers 6. describe some events that enemies tacitly admit are
true (enemy attestation) 7. describe events and details that are embarrassing to the
authors and even to Jesus himself. (I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist.

D. Literature
1. More Manuscripts—At last count, there are nearly 5,700 handwritten Greek
manuscripts of the New Testament. In addition, there are more than 9,000
manuscripts in other languages (e.g., Syriac, Coptic, Latin, Arabic). Some of these
nearly 15,000 manuscripts are complete Bibles, others are books or pages, and a few
are just fragments. As shown in fig. 9.1 on the next page, there is nothing from the
ancient world that even comes close in terms of manuscript support. The next closest
work is the Iliad by Homer, with 643 manuscripts. Most other ancient works survive
on fewer than a dozen manuscripts,8 yet few historians question the historicity of the
events those works describe. (I don’t have enough face to be an atheist)
2. In all of history, the Bible is by far the most widely referenced and quoted book. For
example, the New Testament alone is so extensively quoted in the ancient
manuscripts of nonbiblical authors that all 27 books from Matthew through
Revelation could be reconstructed virtually word for word from those sources.
(Beyond Belief to Conviction by Josh McDowell)
E. History
1. Luke the Historian

7
Finding God

2. Classical scholar and historian Colin Hemer chronicles Luke’s accuracy in the book
of Acts verse by verse. With painstaking detail, Hemer identifies 84 facts in the last
16 chapters of Acts that have been confirmed by historical and archaeological
research. (I don’t have enough face to be an atheist)
3. Judging from his meticulous work in Acts, Luke certainly is a careful historian who
should be trusted. As New Testament scholar Craig Blomberg observes, “A historian
who has been found trustworthy where he or she can be tested should be given the
benefit of the doubt in cases where no tests are available.”7 Since Luke has been
tested on 84 points and has earned a perfect score, there’s every reason to believe his
Gospel is “gospel” as well. (I don’t have enough face to be an atheist)
4. Now here’s the crucial point: Since Luke is telling the truth, then so are Mark and
Matthew because their Gospels tell the same basic story. This is devastating to
skeptics, but the logic is inescapable. You need a lot of faith to ignore it. (I don’t
have enough face to be an atheist)
5. So there are at least four independent sources for the basic New Testament story, and,
adding Paul (1 Cor. 15:8) and Peter (1 Pet. 1:21) to the mix, there are at least six
independent sources for the Resurrection. (I don’t have enough face to be an atheist)
6. The bottom line is this: agreement on the major points and divergence on the minor
details is the nature of eyewitness testimony, and this is the very nature of the New
Testament documents. (I don’t have enough face to be an atheist)
7. Using the accepted standard for evaluating the textual reliability of ancient texts, the
New Testament stands alone. It has no equal. No other book of the ancient world
can even approach the reliability of the New Testament. (Beyond Belief to
Conviction by Josh McDowell)
8. Revelation 22:18-19 (NKJV) A Warning - For I testify to everyone who hears the
words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to
him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the
words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of
Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
9. God is well able to write a book and preserve it.
10. Since the time the original manuscripts were written – more than eighteen hundred
years – skeptics have tried to refute the Bible, infidels have tried to stamp it out, and
dictators have tried to burn it. However, God’s Word has not only prevailed but also
proliferated. Voltaire, the noted 18th-century French skeptic, predicted that within a
hundred years of his time Christianity would be but a footnote in history. Ironically,
in 1828, fifty years after Voltaire’s death, the Geneva Bible Society moved into his
house and used his printing press to produce thousands of Bibles to distribute world-
wide. “People are like grass that dies away,…” Peter stated, quoting Isaiah the
prophet, “but the word of the Lord will last forever” (1 Peter 1:24-25). (Beyond
Belief to Conviction by Josh McDowell)

8
Finding God

V. The Invisible God

A. God cannot be discovered by the senses because God is a spirit and the senses are limited
to the physical world.
1. Isaiah 64:1-2 (NKJV) Oh, that You would rend the heavens! That You would come
down! That the mountains might shake at Your presence—as fire burns brushwood,
as fire causes water to boil—to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the
nations may tremble at Your presence!
2. God Has chosen to be invisible. He is not, however, unreachable. Although God
remains unseen, people are not incapable of believing in Him or unable to find Him.
God has given each person the freedom to choose Him or reject Him without
intimidation or coercion.
B. Why Invisible?
1. He could eliminate doubt if He would dwell on Earth in a physical form.
2. This 6000 years of human history may be the only time when God’s creatures can
choose to ignore Him and get away with it. God has chosen to give us the space of
one lifetime to make our decision.
3. Matthew 5:44-45 (NKJV) But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse
you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and
persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun
rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
4. Matthew 13:24 (NKJV) The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares - Another parable
He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good
seed in his field.
5. God wants people to love Him because they want to not because they have to. The
decision to serve God is not mandatory.
6. His presence would overwhelm people, God has chosen to give everyone space so
they can choose without being forced, coerced, intimidated.
7. He wants people to surrender to Him voluntarily not by force.
8. Revelation 3:20 (NKJV) Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My
voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
C. The Evidence
1. Gen 1:1-13
2. Acts 14:17 (NKJV) Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that
He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with
food and gladness.”
3. Acts 17:26-27 (NKJV) And He has made from one blood every nation of men to
dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and
the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that
they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.
a. Acts 17:26-27 (TPT) From one man, Adam, he made every man and woman and
every race of humanity, and he spread us over all the earth. He sets the
boundaries of people and nations, determining their appointed times in history.

9
Finding God

He has done this so that every person would long for God, feel their way to him,
and find him—for he is the God who is easy to discover! (TPT) The Aramaic is
“investigating him in his creation.”
4. Psalms 19:1-2 (NLT) The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his
craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him
known.
5. Isaiah 42:5 (NKJV) Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and
stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, who
gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it:
6. Isaiah 40:26 (NKJV) Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these
things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the
greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing.
7. Romans 1:20 (NKJV) For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are
clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power
and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
D. The Conclusion
1. Romans 1:20 (NKJV) For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are
clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power
and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
2. His invisible attributes are seen.
a. Romans 1:19-20 (NLT) They know the truth about God because he has made it
obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth
and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible
qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not
knowing God.
b. Romans 1: 19-20 (MSG) But the basic reality of God is plain enough. Open your
eyes and there it is! By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has
created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can’t see:
eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being. So nobody has a
good excuse.
c. Romans 1:19-20 (WNT) because what may be known about Him is plain to their
inmost consciousness; for He Himself has made it plain to them. For, from the
very creation of the world, His invisible perfections--namely His eternal power
and divine nature--have been rendered intelligible and clearly visible by His
works, so that these men are without excuse.
d. Weymouth - If you want to suppress or ignore the evidence all around you (Rom.
1:18-20)— including that which is presented in this book—then you are free to
do so. But that would be a volitional act, not a rational one. You can reject Christ,
but you cannot honestly say there’s not enough evidence to believe in him. (I
don’t have enough faith to be an atheist)
3. You can’t have art without an artist.
a. You can’t have a crime without a criminal.
b. You can’t have a creation without a creator.
4. But since we are finite creatures who must make our decisions based on probability,
there has to be a point where we realize that the weight of the evidence comes down
on one side or the other. We’ll never have all the answers. But…there are more than

enough answers to give God the benefit of our doubts. (I don’t have enough faith to
be an atheist)
E. The Consequences.
1. Gen 1:1
2. This is not just a difference of opinion but a different world view that impacts every
decision.
3. The results of a Godless mentality are catastrophic. This thinking creates a vacuum
that is filled with every form of evil and corruption imaginable.
4. Humans without God have proven they will corrupt anything if they control it long
enough.
5. Romans 1:21-22 (TPT) Throughout human history the fingerprints of God were upon
them, yet they refused to honor him as God or even be thankful for his kindness.
Instead, they entertained corrupt and foolish thoughts about what God was like. This
left them with nothing but misguided hearts, steeped in moral darkness. Although
claiming to be super-intelligent, they were in fact shallow fools.
6. Romans 1:21 (NLT) Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or
even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like.
As a result, their minds became dark and confused.
7. (MSG) they trivialized themselves into silliness and confusion so that there was
neither sense nor direction left in their lives.
8. Romans 1:24 (NKJV) Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts
of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,
9. The list of things that fill the void is long.
10. Romans 1:28-32 (NKJV) And even as they did not like to retain God in their
knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not
fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness,
covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness;
they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of
evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving,
unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those
who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also
approve of those who practice them.
11. Romans 1:28-32 (MSG)Since they didn’t bother to acknowledge God, God quit
bothering them and let them run loose. And then all hell broke loose: rampant evil,
grabbing and grasping, vicious backstabbing. They made life hell on earth with their
envy, wanton killing, bickering, and cheating. Look at them: mean-spirited,
venomous, fork-tongued God-bashers. Bullies, swaggerers, insufferable windbags!
They keep inventing new ways of wrecking lives. They ditch their parents when they
get in the way. Stupid, slimy, cruel, cold-blooded. And it’s not as if they don’t know
better. They know perfectly well they’re spitting in God’s face. And they don’t care
—worse, they hand out prizes to those who do the worst things best!
12. Those people are on a dark spiral downward.

VI. Finding God.

A. People have been given a chance to know God, they have one life in which to seek Him
and find Him.

11
Finding God

1. Every person is given this one opportunity.

2. Rom 1:19-20 (NLT) His invisible attributes are seen. They know the truth about God
because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people
have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his
invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So, they have no excuse for
not knowing God.
3. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to
God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek
Him.
4. Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD,
thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call
upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and
find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
B. Your search will lead you to Jesus Christ.
1. John 3:16-17 (NKJV) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten
Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For
God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world
through Him might be saved.
2. Romans 10:9-10 (NKJV) that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and
believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For
with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is
made unto salvation.
3. Pray this prayer to accept God’s free offer of salvation: God I come to you in the
name of Jesus. I ask you to forgive me for all my sins. I believe that Jesus died
for my sins and He was raised from the dead and I confess Jesus as my Lord
and Savior. According to your Word I am saved. Thank you for forgiving me
and saving me today and giving me new life in Him.
