CH3COCH3(aq) + I2(aq) ⟶ CH3COCH2I(aq) + HI(aq)

Several titrations are conducted to follow the progress of the reaction at 25 ℃.

Initial concentration / mol dm-3

Experiment initial rate / mol dm-3 s-1
I2(aq) CH3COCH3(aq) HCl(aq)
1 6.20 ×10 -4
0.30 2 × 10-3 1.92 × 10-5
2 3.10 ×10 -4
0.30 2 × 10-3 1.92 × 10-5
3 3.10 ×10 -4
0.90 1 × 10-3 2.88 × 10-5
4 3.10 ×10 -4
0.90 2 × 10-3 5.76 × 10-5

(a) Outline the experimental procedure to follow the progress of the reaction by titration.
(3 marks)
(b) Using the experimental results, deduce the rate equation.
(3 marks)
(c) Calculate the rate constant of the reaction at 25 ℃.
(1 mark)
21-22 / M / F.6 / CHM 2/ P.2

4. Methanol is a starting material for the production of ethanoic acid

(a) Syngas is required in the production for the methanol. Write a chemical equation of

Step 2: CH3I + CO ⟶ CH3COI
Step 3: CH3OI + H2O ⟶ CH3COOH + HI
In a certain industrial process, it is found that 100 kg of methanol can produce 120 kg of
ethanoic acid. Calculate the atom economy and percentage yield of the above process.
(2 marks)
5. For a certain reaction, the initial rate of reaction is 1.20 × 10-4 mol dm-3 s-1 at 20 ℃ and
