Competenc Proves two triangles are congruent. Code: M8GE- IIIg-
y: 1
Key • Triangle Congruence means that two triangles are exactly equal in shape
Concepts / and size. This includes all their corresponding sides and angles being
Understand congruent, even if the triangles are flipped or rotated.
ings to be
Developed: Postulates Used to Prove Triangle Congruence:
• SSS (Side-Side-Side) – Three sides of one triangle are congruent to
three sides of another triangle.
• SAS (Side-Angle-Side) – Two sides and the included angle are
congruent.
• ASA (Angle-Side-Angle) – Two angles and the included side are
congruent.
• AAS (Angle-Angle-Side) – Two angles and a non-included side are
congruent.
• HL (Hypotenuse-Leg) – For right triangles: hypotenuse and one leg
are congruent.

• Congruence Postulates allow us to prove triangle congruence using only a

few matching parts, instead of all six, because triangle structure guarantees
uniqueness when certain conditions are met.
• CPCTC (Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent) is a
principle that justifies using one part of a congruent triangle to deduce
others.

Actual CONSTRUCT & PROVE

Activity
25 minutes Instruction:
1. Divide class into 3 groups.
2. Each group is given a different triangle congruence condition.
3. Students use GeoGebra (via live code) to:
• Construct two triangles with the given condition
• Use measurement tools to verify congruence
• Take a screenshot and upload their work (or present it) •
Write a brief explanation of why their triangles are congruent.

Group 1: Use SSS to construct and prove congruence.

Group 2: Use ASA to construct and prove congruence.
Group 3: Use SAS to congruent and prove congruence.

ANALYSIS:
• What congruence postulate did you use?
• Why did you use that postulate?
• Who could benefit from knowing triangle congruence in real life?
• When is triangle congruence useful (e.g., architecture, robotics)?
How did you confirm that the triangles are congruent?

ABSTRACTION:
• How do we prove two triangles are congruent?
To prove that two triangles are congruent, we do not need to measure and
compare all six parts (three sides and three angles). Instead, we can use specific
postulates or theorems that tell us when just a few matching parts are enough to
confirm congruence. Let‟s recall the five major triangle congruence postulates:

1. SSS (Side-Side-Side): If three sides of one triangle are congruent to

three sides of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent.
2. SAS (Side-Angle-Side): If two sides and the included angle of one
triangle are congruent to the corresponding parts of another triangle,
the triangles are congruent.
3. ASA (Angle-Side-Angle): If two angles and the included side are
congruent, then the triangles are congruent.
4. AAS (Angle-Angle-Side): If two angles and a non-included side are
congruent, the triangles are congruent.
5. HL (Hypotenuse-Leg – right triangles only): If the hypotenuse and
one leg of a right triangle are congruent to the corresponding parts of
another right triangle, the triangles are congruent.

CPCTC (Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent) is a

principle that justifies using one part of a congruent triangle to deduce others.
Practice YOUR TURN!
10 minutes
Instruction: Get ½ sheet of paper and answer the given problem.

Problem: Two triangles have ∠A = ∠D, AB = DE, and AC = DF. Prove they are
congruent. Justify the postulate used.

5. Assessment
Conferenci PROVE ME!
ng/Writing 15
minutes Two triangles, △ABC and △DEF, are shown with the following conditions:
• AB ≅ DE
• ∠B ≅ ∠E
• BC ≅ EF

Task:
1. Determine if △ABC ≅ △DEF.
2. Identify the triangle congruence postulate applied, if applicable.
3. Justify your answer with a clear explanation.
Draw your own triangle pair and apply a different congruence postulate. Label
and explain the congruence.
6. Assignment

t
3 minutes A bridge structure uses triangular supports. One of the triangles on the left side
is broken. Using triangle congruence, prove which triangle on the right side can
replace it perfectly to keep balance and support.

Task:

• Research real-life examples of triangle congruence in architecture.

• Make a creative report (poster, drawing, or video).
• Due next session.
